Chapter 118

Yuexin, despite how strong she was herself, knew that the battle against Xueyi would test her in ways she had never imagined; if there was one thing she was certain of, though, it was the fact that defeating Xueyi would never be easy.

She was incredibly strong; not only that, but her durability and battle skills were also top-notch, and as if all of that wasn’t enough, she just had to possess a mutated qi that was incredibly difficult to deal with:

Poison Qi. She had already been poisoned, and her body was gradually weakening; not only was the poison draining her strength, but it was also causing her immense pain, making her battle efficiency plummet greatly.

With how things were going, there was no doubt that if she wanted to win this battle, she would have to use her bloody side.

Usually, summoning it required a great deal of mental focus, concentration, and effort, but it became much easier whenever she was wounded and in pain, and the multiple injuries she had received from Xueyi were enough to trigger it.

Yuexin closed her eyes; when they opened again, one of her blue eyes had changed from its usual azure color into a glowing crimson red.

She immediately felt her strength rise sharply; the unbearable pain lessened, becoming something she could now endure. She slowly rose to her feet, her cold gaze locking onto Xueyi, who raised an eyebrow in surprise.

"Oh? Your tolerance for pain must be pretty high."

She tapped the side of her head with a finger before smiling: "What am I saying? Of course I should expect nothing less from the Battle Princess. But... I really am wondering how long you can keep this up."

The moment she finished speaking, she attacked. Yuexin’s sword flashed; she blocked the incoming strike before immediately retaliating with a brutal slash aimed straight for Xueyi’s chest.

Once again, the two began exchanging blows at an astonishing pace, so fast that the very air around them seemed to cry in pain as sharp whistling sounds continuously echoed throughout the arena. Yuexin attacked without holding anything back; her dual blades moved in perfect harmony, every strike precise and calculated.

Her footwork flowed seamlessly together, leaving no room for mistakes, and every attack she unleashed carried deadly intent. As Xueyi continued fighting, she quickly noticed that something was wrong; the Yuexin she was facing had grown stronger.

That shouldn’t have been possible; after all, she was supposed to be growing weaker because of the poison flowing through her body.

Clang! Xueyi’s hands trembled slightly from the force behind Yuexin’s latest strike; using her smooth footwork, she barely avoided the next attack, which carved a long scar across the newly reconstructed arena.

She landed several meters away, a small frown appearing on her face. No; she wasn’t imagining things, nor was she making assumptions.... she was absolutely certain: Yuexin had become stronger.

Xueyi frowned for another brief moment before letting out a sigh and shaking her head: "If a little poison isn’t enough... then more will get the job done."

A wicked yet playful grin curled across her lips; then, her entire aura began to change, or rather, it was her refined qi that changed. Ordinary refined qi was colorless and invisible, just like normal qi; it possessed neither color nor form.

But now, the colorless refined qi surrounding Xueyi slowly transformed; a beautiful purple hue spread through it. It became a light shade of violet, identical to the color of her hair and eyes; unlike the flowing Water Qi surrounding Yuexin, Xueyi’s mutated qi didn’t flow like liquid, but instead, it resembled a dense poisonous mist, quietly enveloping every inch of her body.

Even her twin daggers became coated in that eerie purple smoke; it was none other than her mutated qi... Poison Qi. Her purple eyes glowed faintly as she slowly lowered herself into another battle stance.

Her gaze locked onto Yuexin, who was also looking back at her with the same calmness as before; although... something about her gaze now seemed different.

It was the subtle coldness radiating from it; it was as if she had become a completely different person from the calm, composed girl Xueyi had been fighting just minutes ago. She didn’t let it bother her too much, though; instead, she smiled.

"Okay... ready for round four, Sister Yuexin?"

She paused before shaking her head: "Wait... who’s even counting?"

Yuexin’s gaze remained calm, yet subtly cold; she didn’t bother replying. "Whatever... any round will do," Xueyi said with a grin before launching herself forward.

Yuexin also kicked off the ground, rushing to meet her head-on; the moment the two collided, a violent wave of qi burst outward, followed by a powerful gust of wind that swept across the arena, blowing against the faces and clothes of the audience. Without wasting a single moment, the two resumed their battle; neither of them held anything back.

Both made sure their defense and evasion remained flawless, because they both knew just how dangerous the other truly was. For Yuexin, the greatest threat was Xueyi’s poison; the poison already inside her body was bad enough, and she was still trying to force it out.

If another dose entered her body through those twin daggers that were now coated in Poison Qi, then she would truly be in danger.

Every strike from those daggers would inject another portion of Poison Qi into her body; the more Poison Qi that entered, the weaker she would become, and the weaker she became, the easier it would be for Xueyi to land even more attacks.

The cycle would simply continue over and over again until she was completely defeated. As for Xueyi, her concern was entirely different; there was no doubt about her suspicions anymore: Yuexin had undoubtedly become stronger, and now, she finally understood why.

Xueyi’s eyes trembled violently; her heart skipped a beat. "H-How... how can she have two qi mutations?"

Because of the overwhelming shock, her concentration slipped. "Surging Impact!" Yuexin’s attack slammed directly into her guard; the unfiltered force behind the strike crashed into her body, making her grimace in pain as she was blasted backward.

She rolled across the ground before finally managing to steady herself; pain surged through every nerve in her arms, but that wasn’t what she cared about. Not at all; her eyes trembled once more as she slowly raised a shaking finger toward Yuexin.

"H-How... how can you have two mutated qi?"

The crowd, along with everyone who had been completely entranced by the battle, took several seconds to process what Xueyi had just said; when they followed the direction she was pointing, their eyes widened.

They finally noticed the abnormality: two different mutated qi were swirling around Yuexin’s body. No... both appeared to be Water Qi, yet one was the normal azure blue of flowing water, while the other was unmistakably crimson red.

Two mutated qi... while only being at the First Stage of the Qi Refining Realm? "What...? How?" Elder Ting exclaimed in utter shock as he stared at Yuexin as though she were some kind of monster.

Truthfully, he had looked at Li Feng with that same expression when the latter entered the State of Flow, a realm that countless cultivators far stronger than him had never even witnessed, let alone entered; seeing someone who was only at the Seventh Stage of Qi Gathering step into that legendary state had shaken him to his core, and it had clearly shown from his reaction.

When he thought he had already witnessed the greatest anomaly imaginable... Li Feng shattering every piece of common sense he knew... now, another member of the Li Clan had done something that wasn’t much less shocking: Yuexin possessed two mutated qi.

One had to understand that even obtaining one mutated qi while only being at the First Stage of the Qi Refining Realm was something completely abnormal; normally, one should only be capable of triggering a qi mutation during the late or peak stages of the Foundation Realm.

After all, obtaining a qi mutation was an incredibly difficult process; it was also one of the most important requirements for breaking into the Core Stage. Simply put, without one’s qi gaining an elemental attribute through mutation, one would never be able to break through from the Mortal Stage into the Core Stage; and triggering a qi mutation was one of the hardest achievements for any cultivator.

Countless cultivators failed to awaken a qi mutation even after reaching the absolute peak of the Foundation Realm; because of that, their cultivation path came to an end. To put everything simply, a qi mutation was not something that could be achieved easily; Shi Yuan proving that he had awakened one had shocked Elder Ting to some extent, but that shock hadn’t been too severe.

After all, at that same time, Li Feng had given him an even greater shock by entering the State of Flow; furthermore, seeing that Shi Tian and Guan Xueyi also possessed qi mutations no longer surprised him much.

They were acknowledged monsters among the younger generation; seeing Yuexin reveal a mutated qi had certainly shocked him, but he had still managed to control himself.

She had already stepped into the Qi Refining Realm, after all; although awakening a qi mutation at the First Stage of Qi Refining was far from normal, he had reluctantly accepted it with a racing heart.

But just when he believed he wouldn’t receive another overwhelming surprise, Yuexin revealed a second mutated qi; that completely shattered everything he believed he knew once again.

How could someone at the First Stage of the Qi Refining Realm possess two mutated qi? With a stunned gaze, Elder Ting couldn’t help but turn toward Li San: "Just how many monsters are your disciples?"

Li San only shrugged his shoulders; he had no idea himself. Unlike most people, however, he did have some idea why Yuexin possessed a second mutated qi; seeing its crimson color, he was certain he wasn’t mistaken.

This had to be because of her second self... her bloody self. Li San frowned slightly; he knew about Yuexin’s bloody nature, something he believed was somehow connected to her physique.

Her bloody self was terrifyingly powerful; even when she was just a child, she had been capable of killing grown men with nothing but her physical strength.

Without a doubt, whenever that bloody nature emerged, it greatly strengthened her, granting her an almost inhuman boost in power; but just as everything with an advantage also carried a disadvantage... that being the natural order of this world... Yuexin’s bloody nature possessed one fatal side effect.

Li San couldn’t help the crease that formed between his brows; he had taken Yuexin in and raised her after saving her from the death sentence she had been condemned to. When he first discovered her bloody nature, he took it upon himself to help her understand and control it; during the early days of her training, she lost control countless times.

Her eyes would turn blood-red, and she would lash out at anyone nearby; back then, even Li San himself had been shocked by just how powerful she became whenever her mind was consumed by that bloody frenzy.

To put things into perspective, when she was only around twelve years old, she hadn’t even begun cultivating yet, and yet, if she entered that blood-frenzied state, she could easily battle cultivators at the mid stages of Body Refinement, sometimes even those at the late stages.

It was something that had terrified even Li San himself; the stronger Yuexin became, the more outrageously powerful she became whenever she entered that blood-frenzied state.

Because of how troublesome she always became whenever her mind was consumed by the desire to kill, Li San had tried countless methods to understand her bloody nature; he had attempted numerous approaches, hoping to discover what was causing her to lose herself whenever that bloodlust consumed her.

After a long time without finding any solution, he finally decided to consult his old friend, Tai Long; after all, Tai Long had been the one who advised him to take Yuexin under his wing in the first place.

As expected, Tai Long knew about Yuexin’s bloody nature, but the answer he gave only filled Li San with even greater apprehension; when Li San had asked him about it, Tai Long simply replied, "It is not something you can know."

Whenever Tai Long answered like that, there were usually only two possible reasons: either Li San was still too weak to know the truth, or it was knowledge that Tai Long simply wasn’t permitted to reveal. Either possibility was enough to tell Li San that Yuexin’s bloody nature was far more terrifying than it appeared on the surface.

Li San slowly shook his head once more; now that Yuexin had been forced to use her bloody nature, and with that newly awakened qi undoubtedly being Blood Qi, he could only hope that Xueyi didn’t push Yuexin into entering a true blood-frenzied state... not just for Yuexin’s own safety, but, more importantly, for Xueyi’s.

Because a blood-frenzied Yuexin was someone that even Li San believed to be extremely dangerous. Meanwhile, back on the battle stage, Xueyi was still staring at Yuexin in complete shock: two mutated qi. Battle Princess or not, this was simply too unbelievable.

At that moment, Yuexin suddenly opened her mouth; she spat out a large mouthful of purple liquid onto the ground. Xueyi’s expression immediately changed; she recognized it instantly... it was undoubtedly her Poison Qi. Yuexin slowly opened both of her eyes; one blue, one crimson red.

Her gaze became noticeably more relaxed after finally expelling the troublesome poison that had been wreaking havoc inside her body; she let out a slow breath, then her eyes sharpened.

The Water Qi and Blood Qi surrounding her slowly intertwined before merging into one; they spiraled around her body like a flowing current of crimson and azure water, perfectly harmonizing with one another.

With both mutated qi working together in perfect tandem, Yuexin felt her strength surge to an entirely new level; a faint smile finally appeared on her face.

"I guess... I won’t need to go that far. This... should be enough to secure my victory."
