Chapter 119: Monstrous Genius

Chapter 119

"Just how many monsters do you have in your clan?" Elder Ting couldn’t help but ask once again as he looked at the two mutated qi... Water Qi and Blood Qi... swirling around Yuexin’s figure, her aura having become even more powerful and domineering than before.

If one didn’t know any better, they would have believed that she had broken through from the First Stage of the Qi Refining Realm all the way to the late stages due to how profound and overwhelming her aura had become.

He looked toward Li San, who simply shrugged once more in response to his question. Elder Ting sat back down, taking a deep breath before slowly exhaling, then he spoke again:

"I hate to say this, but your clan seems to be filled with monsters. And here I thought Lady Shiyuen alone was already enough to make your clan renowned, but these kids... their feats aren’t paling in comparison to hers at all."

He leaned forward slightly before asking, "Tell me... is that young girl her daughter by any chance?" The look on his face was that of an old gossip eager for juicy news. Li San couldn’t help but cough awkwardly before shaking his head:

"No, my sister only gave birth to one child before she passed away, and that child isn’t a girl." Elder Ting nodded thoughtfully; a few moments later, he leaned forward once again: "Okay... then is this child you’re talking about Li Feng?"

Li San’s eyelids twitched; he forced himself to answer as respectfully as possible: "No, Li Feng is my son; he isn’t my sister’s son." Elder Ting nodded once more. He couldn’t really be blamed, could he?

After all, everything he had witnessed today could only be described as shocking; he had even forgotten that Li San himself had given birth to an unparalleled genius like Li Feng. Elder Ting let out a long sigh: "I really can’t wait to see just how talented Lady Shiyuen’s child is."

He couldn’t help but wonder, still, he highly doubted that child would be capable of shocking him as much as Li Feng and Li Yuexin had; after all, both of them had already accomplished things that were practically unheard of in the cultivation world.

Of course, Elder Ting had absolutely no idea that Li Yu... Shiyuen’s child... was no less of a genius than either of them. If he were to discover that Li Yu had already awakened a mutated qi while only being at the First Stage of the Qi Gathering Realm, there was a very real chance that he would simply faint from the sheer shock.

Li San looked at Elder Ting’s shining eyes as the old man continued staring at Yuexin; he couldn’t help but wonder how Li Yu would have performed if he were actually here.

After all, by all accounts, that kid wasn’t supposed to be capable of fighting against monsters on the level of the Shi and Guan Clan candidates; yet, Li San had a strange feeling.

He didn’t think Li Yu would be helpless against them; after all, it was that very same kid who had completely overwhelmed cultivators of his own generation using nothing but a few simple slaps. Who knew? Perhaps he might really have a few surprises prepared for all of them.

But even that didn’t change one simple fact: no matter what happened, Li Yuexin’s battle would eventually come to an end. Either she would successfully secure one of the top five spots, or she would lose; either outcome meant the same thing.

If Li Yu still hadn’t arrived by then, it would be no different from him losing by default. Li San’s gaze shifted toward the entrance of the Ray Arena once more; still, there wasn’t even the slightest sign of Li Yu. He couldn’t help but mutter inwardly, "Just where are you, kid...?"

Meanwhile, far away from the Ray Arena, Li Yu landed on the slope of a mountain and slowly looked around.

To his right, he saw nothing but endless stretches of white sand; to his left, a vast, bushy forest stretched as far as the eye could see; behind him stood a jagged mountain range; and directly ahead, a small town rested quietly in the distance. Li Yu slowly blinked.

"This clearly can’t be Ray City..." He slowly shook his head before speaking, "Sys... I think we’re lost again...."

Back at the Ray Arena....

Yuexin’s face remained calm and composed as she successfully merged her raging Blood Qi with her calm, soothing Water Qi.

With the two types of qi working together in perfect tandem, she felt her body fill with invigorating strength; a small smile touched her lips as she realized that she wouldn’t need to dive deeper into her bloody nature just to secure this victory.

After all, if she dove deeper into her bloody self, there was a very high chance that she would enter the Blood Frenzy State. And if that happened, she could only imagine the kind of chaos she would end up causing;

despite that state being the absolute peak of her strength, it was also the most dangerous one, because she still had no way of keeping herself under control. Instead, whenever she entered that state, her mind would be filled with nothing but the overwhelming need and urge to kill her prey and suck their blood dry.

Yuexin exhaled softly: "This should be enough to secure my victory..."

The crowd, who had been trapped in a daze for several moments, finally snapped out of it; seeing how the situation had shifted from being completely against Yuexin to now turning against Guan Xueyi, they couldn’t help but clap loudly and cheer for the Battle Princess.

The fact that she had even managed to remove the poison that had been injected into her clearly told everyone that victory was no longer completely in Xueyi’s favor like it had been earlier. Xueyi took a while before returning to her usual self; she slowly shook his head: "I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised.

After all, you are my rival. Doing this much isn’t strange. Having two mutated qi at the first stage of the Qi Refining Realm is nothing special at all."

She sighed dramatically before grinning once again: "Sincerely, I knew that this battle would push me beyond my normal limit. But I have to admit... you have really pushed me to that limit. So I guess I should reward you."

With those words, the smile on her face widened; the two daggers that had previously only been coated in a layer of poisonous purple smoke suddenly became completely engulfed by her Poison Qi.

But that wasn’t the only strange thing happening; the Poison Qi surrounding her body slowly began spreading across the entire battle stage. Li Yuexin frowned the moment she saw it. *She is trying to trap me... no doubt about it,* she thought.

Without wasting any time, she slashed repeatedly, trying to cut apart the spreading purple mist; however, no matter how many times she sliced through it, the smoke simply knitted itself back together a second later. Of course, that was only to be expected; after all, it was gas.

What she hadn’t expected, however, and what caused her heart to race slightly, was realizing that Xueyi could expand the poisonous mist until it covered the entire battle arena. Meaning, there would no longer be any safe place for her to fight; after all, she still needed to breathe.

But the moment she inhaled, she would be breathing in poison, weakening herself in the process. She could try holding her breath, but not forever; and she was certain that Xueyi would simply wait patiently until she was forced to breathe.

Not long after that thought crossed her mind, Yuexin suddenly sensed danger. Making sure not to inhale the purple smoke filling the arena, Yuexin immediately slashed forward; thanks to her timely reaction, she managed to guard against Xueyi’s incoming attack.

The impact knocked her hands backward slightly, but she quickly regained her balance before striking back without holding anything in reserve.

The two immediately began fighting once more inside the purple dome formed by Xueyi’s Poison Qi. The people in the audience... especially the non-cultivators... could no longer see the battle; all they could hear were the constant sounds of clashing steel and the sharp whistles that repeatedly tore through the air.

Occasionally, the shockwaves produced by the two fighters would blow away portions of the poisonous mist, allowing the audience to briefly catch sight of the two girls exchanging countless attacks before the dense purple smoke swallowed them once again.

Haoran slowly shook his head. Yuexin truly lived up to her title as the Battle Princess; if someone had told him before today that she would be able to fight Xueyi on equal footing, he would have argued against it for as long as possible.

After all, the gap between someone at the first stage of the Qi Refining Realm and someone at the absolute peak of that same realm was by no means small; the fact that Yuexin had managed to fight her for this long had already earned his deepest respect.

But respect was one thing, and reality was another; she was still going to lose. After all, Xueyi had truly been forced to go all out; now that her Poison Dome had been unleashed, there was simply no longer any way for Yuexin to win.

She would constantly be poisoned whether she wanted to or not; whether she held her breath or not, it wouldn’t matter. As long as she remained inside the Poison Dome, the poison would continue invading hher body, weakening her more and more with every passing second.

She couldn’t win this battle anymore, Haoran muttered calmly.

Hey everyone! It’s your gentle author, Ultra, reporting for duty! 👋

First of all... thank you all so much for your continued support. Seriously, you guys are amazing. Every comment, Power Stone, Golden Ticket, gift, and even those silent readers who binge Chapters at 3 a.m.—I appreciate every single one of you.

You all keep this author’s motivation bar permanently maxed out, and that’s why I always want to give you the best Chapters I possibly can.

Now, I have a question!

What do you all think about the Selection Tournament Arc so far? Are you enjoying it? Does the pacing feel good, or is it a little too slow for your taste? Be honest! I read your comments, so if there’s something on your mind, let me know below.

The reason this arc isn’t moving at lightning speed is because it’s laying the foundation for some really important reveals later on. I’m planting quite a few seeds now so that when everything starts exploding... it’ll be even more satisfying. Trust me, the payoff will be worth it.

Now for some exciting news!

As a little thank-you to all my wonderful partners-in-crime... I mean, readers... I’ve decided to do a 15-Chapter mass release on the very first day of next month! 🎉

Think of it as my way of saying thank you for sticking with me through this journey.

One more thing...

Over the next few weeks, I might not be replying to comments as quickly as usual. Before anyone starts a search party, don’t worry! I’m not disappearing. I’m simply locking myself in my writing cave and focusing on stacking up Chapters.

The update schedule will stay exactly the same, so no need to panic. Your daily dose of Chapters isn’t going anywhere.

If you have questions, theories, or just want to scream about a cliffhanger, leave a comment anyway! I’ll happily read through them and reply once I crawl back out of my writing dungeon.

Finally...

Thank you once again for all the support you’ve shown this novel. Every bit of it keeps me moving forward and makes me want to write even more. You guys have honestly built such a fun community around this story, and I’m grateful to have every one of you here.

Now, take care of yourselves, stay hydrated, and don’t forget to keep supporting the novel...

My motivation level is directly proportional to your support. It’s very scientific. I definitely didn’t make that up. 😌

Hehehehe...

Your ever-loving (and slightly sleep-deprived) author,

Ultra
