Chapter 121

"Hey, Sys... I think we are lost again," Li Yu said while looking around. At his sides were mountain slopes and forests, at his back was the endless white sand that stretched as far as the eye could see, and in front of him was a small city... one that clearly couldn’t be the magnificent Ray City, the supposed capital of the entire Night Region.

"Hey, Sys... you there?" Of course, Li Yu knew the System could hear him perfectly; it was probably just too haughty to reply to his question. When the System finally replied, though, its tone sounded annoyed as usual:

"Host, I already warned you, didn’t I? How can you ask for directions from a drunk man and expect not to be misdirected?" the System said, its tone sounding tired. Li Yu shook his head: "How was I supposed to know that he would misdirect me?"

"Because he was drunk, obviously," the System answered. Li Yu shook his head again:

"Back on Earth, I read lots of cultivation novels. Those who seemed drunk were mostly either hidden experts in disguise or wise sages who knew many things. Something as simple as asking one of those wise men for directions wasn’t supposed to turn out like this..."

"Host!" The System snapped, making Li Yu’s head buzz slightly. "How many times am I supposed to tell you that judging reality by what happens in fiction is not wise at all? But you never listen."

"Your habit of believing everything will play out exactly like the novels you read is what leads you into doing truly stupid and reckless things. This is your real life, and yet you still treat it like some kind of game."

Li Yu knew everything the System was saying was true, so he didn’t even bother pretending to argue; instead, he looked around. Out of the four choices before him... the endless white sand, the mountains, the forest, and the small city... the one he was going to choose was pretty obvious.

He started walking toward the city while enduring the full force of the System’s nonstop yapping. After a while, the System finally calmed down, allowing Li Yu to speak: "But all that has nothing to do with why I’m lost."

"Of course it does. If you hadn’t asked a drunk man for directions, then you wouldn’t be lost." "Hey, Sys, give me a break. How was I supposed to know he was just a drunk man and not one of those wise drunk men?"

The System remained silent for a moment before replying: "Host... I really don’t have the energy for this argument. Just find the right direction and get going. If my calculations are correct, then the tournament has already started. There’s a high chance you’ll even be disqualified for not arriving on time."

Hearing that, Li Yu’s heart suddenly thumped; the reward for the System quest immediately flashed through his mind: 100 EXP and 2,000 Essence Points. "No... hell no." There was no way he was going to let that reward slip away.

Li Yu immediately sped up and dashed toward the small city; with his base speed enhanced by his Primal Qi, he ran incredibly fast, reaching the city in no time. He was going to find someone to give him directions... and hopefully not a drunkard this time.

As Li Yu lamented his fate of getting lost, he couldn’t help but feel the urge to curse the original Li Yu. Shouldn’t that guy know where Ray City was? After all, wasn’t he supposed to be the well-respected young master of the Li Clan?

Of course, he was only blaming the poor guy unfairly; after news of Li Yu’s broken Spirit Root spread and he became the infamous trash heir whose reputation spread throughout the entire Night Region, the original Li Yu had become a cultivation addict.

He barely ever left the Li Manor after that; he couldn’t attend major parties or social gatherings because of the ridicule and contempt he would receive from everyone. As a result, he had no choice but to remain inside the manor, desperately trying to change his fate. Sadly enough, he never managed to do so before death found him.

Li Yu shook his head; he really shouldn’t blame the poor fellow. If anything, he should blame himself for comparing fiction to reality. Still, the next time he saw that drunkard, he was definitely going to break a few of the man’s bones.

Soon, he entered the city, ready to ask for the correct direction to Ray City; but the moment he stepped inside, he realized there was a rather big problem. Everyone here was old... not just adults, but old. Super old. Around eighty years old or even older.

Of course, they had reached such an age because they were mortals rather than cultivators; after all, some cultivators at high realms could live for hundreds of years and still look like men in their late twenties or early thirties.

Li Yu looked around the small city. Only old people. Everywhere. It even made him wonder who had gathered all of them here, but that wasn’t a mystery he had time to investigate. So, he walked up to the first old man he saw and asked for directions to Ray City.

The old man gave him directions; however, not wanting to be misled again, Li Yu decided to ask a few more people just to be safe. Then another problem quickly surfaced: Li Yu stood in the middle of the dusty street, his eyes twitching uncontrollably as if he were having a seizure.

And whatever he was experiencing was probably worse than a seizure: every single old person gave him a completely different direction. They were somehow even worse than the drunk man who had misdirected him before.

With a subtle frown, Li Yu shook his head: "And here I thought old people were supposed to be smart. After all, the wise people in cultivation novels were mostly old men and old ladies."

Then, after thinking that, he shook his head once more. The System was right all along; he was judging his reality with the books he used to read, and as much as the two seemed to share many similarities, they also had their differences.

He really needed to stop that habit of his. After a while of rebuking himself, his mind focused on the problem at hand: if he followed the directions given by the old men and women, then without any doubt he would become completely lost. Who knew?

He might even find himself in another region altogether, or even worse, in another continent altogether. Of course, he was exaggerating; but sincerely, in all honesty, he was certain that if he followed the directions those old people had given him, he would absolutely and unquestionably get lost.

So, he found himself in a dilemma, wondering what exactly he should do now.

Just then, his helpful System came through for him: "Host... after analyzing all the data gathered from the directions they gave, I believe I have been able to narrow it down and determine the location of Ray City."

Li Yu’s eyes widened. "Analyzing... Analysis complete. Host, I have found the location of Ray City." Li Yu’s eyes shone as a huge smile spread across his face: "Sys... have I ever told you just how much I love you?" "Host... just get going." "Yeah, sure,"

Li Yu said as he lowered himself into a running stance, "just know this... you are one of my most beloved companions." With that, his eyes sharpened. "Ding! Momentum activated. Ding! Momentum has been enhanced by Primal Qi."

Li Yu’s body flashed, and he vanished, kicking up a massive cloud of dust behind him.

The old people standing nearby were all shocked and startled; some even fainted outright, while those standing closest instinctively grabbed onto anything near them to stop themselves from being blown away by the powerful gust he left behind.

As Li Yu rushed through the endless white sands at an astonishing speed, his mind couldn’t help but wander toward the rest of his companions, who should already be fighting by now.

He couldn’t help but wonder how they were holding up; even if they were struggling, they wouldn’t need to worry anymore. After all, he was about to enter the battle, and the moment he did, he would take down every single one of their opponents.

Thinking about breaking a few bones and slapping the faces of the geniuses from the other two great clans caused Li Yu’s signature crazy grin to appear on his face. He couldn’t help but laugh: "I really am going to break some bones."

"Turn left," the System suddenly said. With astonishing reflexes, despite the incredible speed he was moving at, Li Yu instantly changed direction: "Wait for me, guys... I’m almost there!"

Meanwhile, back at the Ray Arena, Xueyi’s heart thundered violently inside her chest as her breath caught in her throat; every single hair on her body stood on end in unison, as if they were all screaming the same warning into her ears:

"Danger. She was in danger. And she knew it." Seeing the rapidly approaching crimson arc rushing toward her at an absolutely terrifying speed, her heart seemed to seize up completely.

Her legs froze in place, even as she desperately urged herself to dodge; all strength seemed to leave her body at that very moment when she realized one thing: she was about to die. If that attack hit her, she would die.

Just as her life flashed before her eyes and it seemed that she had truly reached the end, a figure suddenly appeared right in front of her, standing between her and the approaching crimson arc.

With one hand, he caught the crimson arc, then he clenched his fist. The violent arc was compressed over and over again, shrinking continuously until it became nothing more than a small crimson sphere resting in the referee’s palm.

The referee, who had stepped in at the very last moment to save Xueyi’s life, looked at the crimson sphere that still seemed to struggle desperately to escape his grasp and finish Xueyi off; he couldn’t help but be slightly taken aback.

"Did her unleashed attack develop a consciousness of its own or what?" he wondered. Then he shook his head; even he, a Bronze Realm expert, could barely accomplish something like that.

There was simply no way someone at Yuexin’s level could give consciousness to her attack. Shaking his head at his own ridiculous thought, the referee tightened his grip. The crimson sphere was completely suffocated within his grasp before being crushed into countless harmless red sparks that instantly dissolved into the air.

The referee then turned toward Yuexin, ready to rebuke her, but the moment he saw her condition, he quietly closed his mouth. She didn’t look good at all; her entire body had been stained purple, and her pale skin had completely turned violet from the poison.

But that wasn’t even the worst of it... she was also covered in severe wounds. The combination of those two conditions left even the referee shocked that she was somehow still standing.

Yuexin’s eyes remained closed; her sword was still frozen in the exact position she had been in when she unleashed that final strike. The referee would have rebuked her if not for the simple fact that she hadn’t broken any rules.

It also seemed that she had been pushed to her absolute limit before using that final attack, one that would have surely killed her opponent if the referee himself hadn’t stepped onto the stage to stop it from going that far.

He turned to look at Xueyi; her gaze seemed vacant as she collapsed onto her knees, her body trembling violently from the pressure and shock she had just experienced. She had almost lost her life.

Seeing that Xueyi was in no condition to continue fighting, coupled with the fact that she had already lost the moment he stepped in, the referee waited a few seconds before finally declaring the winner of the match: "Li Yuexin wins!" The crowd remained stunned.

Everything had happened far too quickly for them to process; it was as if everything had been playing at four times the normal speed.

First, they had been cheering loudly for the two outstanding warriors as the battle seemed perfectly even; then, all of a sudden, Xueyi revealed her trump card and covered the entire arena with her Poison Qi. Most people had already believed the battle would end in Xueyi’s favor because of that; but then, the poison dome shattered.

All their eyes could catch was a dazzling crimson light that completely filled their vision, and just as suddenly as it had appeared, it vanished.

The next thing they saw was Xueyi collapsing onto the ground, her gaze completely vacant, then the referee announced Yuexin as the winner.

It took quite a while for the crowd to fully understand what had happened; it took even longer for Xueyi’s supporters, who had been hoping for her victory, to accept the result.

But after the referee bluntly explained that if he hadn’t stepped in at that exact moment, Xueyi would very likely have died, the people had no choice but to believe him; especially when they saw Xueyi’s trembling body, looking exactly like someone who had just survived a brush with death.

That sight only further confirmed the referee’s words. The battle between the Battle Princess and the Beast Slayer had come to an end, and the winner was the Battle Princess of the Li Clan.

As difficult as the battle had been, and considering all the odds stacked against her, the fact that she still managed to secure victory greatly shocked everyone who had already written her off as the loser.

Meanwhile, Yuexin wasn’t smiling; nor was she showing any expression on her face. Instead, she was desperately trying to suppress the frenzy within her: "Kill her... Kill her... Kill her..."

Her eyes changed from red to blue, then back to red again as the voice inside her head grew louder and louder: "I said kill her! She is your prey. She deserves to be killed... and fed upon."

The voice continued relentlessly. Yuexin found herself struggling with everything she had just to clear her mind of that eerie voice echoing inside her head... a voice that seemed to desire only one thing: *Kill.* Shi Lan suddenly felt a cold sweat break out across his back as he shakily rose to his feet.

After everything, she was still standing. His gaze remained locked onto Yuexin; she stood there silently, staring at the ground. Her posture was completely rigid, almost like that of a statue, and her hand was still frozen in the same position from when she had swung her final attack.

Shi Lan’s heart thundered violently inside his chest as the image of that terrifying crimson arc resurfaced in his mind: "I guess... it is my turn now."

He gulped deeply: "I guess I have to find a way... any way at all... to defeat the Battle Princess."
