Chapter 131: Disgraceful Battle
Chapter 131
The Guan brothers, as much as the confidence they showed on the outside to the people, were actually internally very scared... No. Not scared.
But they were nervous, to say the least, as they looked at the crazy heir of the Li Clan who had called both of them onto the stage, challenging the two of them together. It took them some time to come to their senses, and by then, the betting on who would win the match between them had already begun.
And seeing that their supporters were far more numerous than the meagre number supporting Liyu, they started to feel pride swelling inside their chests. And after that pride... came shame.
They were no weaklings, and yet they had felt so nervous after being challenged by someone of a weaker realm than them. To powerful geniuses and heirs like them, it was indeed nothing but a great shame.
And following that shame... was anger. Anger and overwhelming rage to squash Liyu rose from their chests in hot, surging waves as their gazes turned cold.
Guan Jian turned to Guan Feng, a cold glint flashing in his eyes as he spoke, "Brother... we need to crush him without giving him the chance to fight back."
The second brother nodded, and the two started walking onto the stage. Guan Jian rested his large battle axe across his shoulder, while his brother held his two pairs of daggers, although anyone with keen eyes could tell that there were still more hidden all over his body.
"Let us teach this bastard his lesson for messing with us," Guan Jian said with a narrowing gaze.
Guan Feng nodded as he unsheathed his daggers, his tone becoming dangerously cold, "Yes... let us teach him a lesson."
Liyu looked at the two brothers, a smirk forming on his face.
These two were weak, but he hoped that they would not disappoint him the way Shi Lan had done. Gosh... that earlier fight was disappointing, Liyu thought with a shake of his head before walking forward. The referee appeared on the stage and proceeded with the introduction.
"Now, for the tenth match, we are having a battle of two versus one... The first two-versus-one fight that has happened ever since the tournament started... And in this match... The Li heir would be going up against the two Guan brothers of the Guan Clan."
The referee coughed slightly after seeing the serious gazes of the two Guan brothers. They looked so serious, as though they were about to head into war. And they were the superior side in this match. Not only did they outnumber their opponent, but that wasn’t the only advantage they held, as they were also in a higher cultivation realm.
And they looked incredibly serious. Meanwhile, their supposed opponent, who should have been the serious one, stood there with an amused smile on his face... as if he were watching a show instead of standing in the middle of a tournament. The referee shook his head. He had no idea what Liyu was thinking.
A few seconds later, he spoke once more, "Alright, on my left we have the Two Fiends of the Guan Clan, and they would be going against the Honored One of the Li Clan... Let the match begin!"
The referee said before vanishing as always, wanting to monitor the match from nearby. Immediately after the match was declared to have started, the Guan brothers moved.
They weren’t going to hold anything back. They charged straight forward, and within seconds they had reached Liyu, who seemed far too slow to react to their movements. "Storm Slash!" Guan Jian called out before striking downward with his axe.
A wave of qi rushed downward as the axe descended toward Liyu’s head with every intention of slicing him clean in half. Liyu didn’t throw a punch or do anything of that sort, but merely sidestepped the attack. And here was where it became crazy.
A normal sidestep would take one, two, or three steps to the right or left, but Liyu’s sidestep allowed him to move in a circular path, and he appeared right behind Guan Jian. The axe descended.
The stage shook violently. But before Guan Jian could even come to terms with the fact that he had missed, he felt a hand gently patting his head. "You are quite strong... but too slow," Liyu said with a smile.
Guan Jian’s face turned sour. Bastard... he thought as he swung his axe once more. At the same time, two swooshing daggers appeared, striking toward Liyu’s back. He seemed to be completely trapped. At least, that was how it appeared to everyone watching. And just then... his eyes shone.
He took another step. His figure blurred slightly as he seemed to vanish. No... he vanished. Guan Jian’s axe was heading straight for Guan Feng’s head, while Guan Feng’s thrusting dagger was heading straight for Guan Jian’s abdomen.
The two brothers, due to the force and momentum behind their attacks, could only pull away all the qi they had poured into the attacks and instead enhance their bodies to the brim with qi. That was the only way for them to survive their own attacks.
Guan Jian’s axe collided with Guan Feng’s head, and at the same time, Guan Jian was pierced by Guan Feng’s dagger. The two whimpered in pain as they suffered the consequences of the attacks they had unleashed themselves.
Liyu, who had appeared nearby, looked at them with an endlessly amused gaze. Watching them almost kill each other was a bit comical, and he wanted to watch more.
"Come on... don’t tell me that this is the best you guys have got," Liyu asked with a mocking smile. Anyone with eyes could see that he had already disgraced the two brothers twice now. But Liyu wasn’t done. He would let the shame sink in for them.
Seeing Liyu’s smile, the two Guan brothers seethed with rage before charging at him again, striking from two different angles. Liyu sidestepped the one wielding the axe and grabbed Guan Feng by the hair before delivering two hot slaps.
Pah! Pah!
A tooth flew out as Guan Feng was sent flying. He managed to regain his footing as he landed on the ground, his face filled with indignation as pain shot through his nerves. "Sorry... I wasn’t supposed to beat you yet," Liyu said with a sheepish smile.
He really wasn’t planning on delivering their beating now. He would let the two brothers make fools of themselves first before he started delivering their beating on a silver platter.
"You bastard!" Guan Jian, seething with rage, shot straight toward Liyu. He struck using another combat art, attacking multiple times with the aim of splitting the arrogant weakling before him into tiny pieces.
Liyu’s body moved, flashing at impossible angles as he managed to avoid every single attack. His smile never left his face. All he did was shift his body and move his legs from one side to another.
It was so effortless for him that he felt as though he was having fun rather than fighting. After a while, when Guan Jian realized what Liyu was doing, his heart started to race. Fear slowly crept into his heart. How can he move so smoothly... and with such abnormal speed as if it is nothing?
How? He thought as the fear he had first felt when Liyu challenged them came rushing back into his veins, giving him the overwhelming urge to flee the battlefield.
Just then, however, his brother joined the fray. The two started attacking together.
Qi slashes... Qi strikes... And attacks capable of decimating groups of powerful cultivators rained down upon Liyu from every direction as the two brothers unleashed everything they had.
And yet, Liyu, using his half-developed movement technique... Primal Step... in conjunction with his own abnormal speed, agility, perception, and overall reflexes, treated all of it as nothing more than child’s play. Liyu’s body blurred suddenly as he tapped Guan Feng on the head with some force.
The result... the latter crashed directly into Guan Jian, and the two were sent flying together.
Liyu yawned slightly. He hated to admit it, but this battle wasn’t stirring anything inside him. He was by no means excited. If anything... he felt bored and unsatisfied. Should I just finish this battle... or should I disgrace the Guan brothers even more? He contemplated.
While Liyu was thinking that, the audience and the entirety of the crowd erupted into an uproar as they watched the battle unfold. It was not going according to how they had planned it. From the moment the battle had started until now... the Twin Fiends had not been able to lay a single hand on Liyu.
It was almost as if he was deliberately playing with the two of them, toying with them without allowing them to touch him even once.
"Wait... tell me that the Twin Fiends are just playing around, right?"
"If things continue at this pace, wouldn’t they lose?"
"My precious 100 gold coins... don’t you dare let me lose them!"
Somebody shouted from the audience seats, and his words immediately stirred the rest of the crowd as they all started shouting.
"Don’t you dare lose! I bet 3,000 gold coins on you! If you lose, I will curse you for all eternity! Don’t you dare lose! Aren’t you the superior Twin Fiends of the Guan Clan?
There is no way you are ruining your name, right? If you lose, the Guan Clan’s name would be dragged through the mud!" More and more outrageous words flew from the mouths of the crowd, who were starting to develop a very bad feeling about this battle.
One had to know that this match had already been going on for about five minutes. And yet... the Twin Fiends hadn’t been able to land a single blow on their opponent.
Meanwhile, their opponent was dealing with them in the most disrespectful way possible. Whether they admitted it or not... everyone present could clearly see just how thoroughly Liyu was using the face of the Guan Clan to drag it through the mud.
In normal cases, the people wouldn’t dare speak so rashly to the two geniuses of a great clan. But when their last hopes had been placed upon them... when they had bet everything on them... and when those same geniuses seemed to be heading toward defeat... then the situation changed.
They needed them to win. Or else, those who had bet more than they should have, or those who had staked their very last hopes on them with the aim of recovering what they had first lost in the previous match, were all screaming at the top of their lungs. "Don’t you dare lose, Twin Fiends!" the crowd shouted.
Guan Jian and Guan Feng, who were just recovering from their crash, felt their worlds starting to sway and spiral when they heard the rebukes and cries of the crowd. They didn’t need anyone to tell them that Liyu was completely disgracing them in this battle.
He hadn’t been hit even once throughout the entire fight. And as if that wasn’t enough... he had casually slapped Guan Feng... patted Guan Jian on the head... and knocked both of them into each other with full force, sending them crashing away like kicked trash balls. Without anyone telling them... they felt utterly and completely humiliated.
The two Guan brothers stood up, dusted themselves off, and then their gazes darkened as they took up new battle stances. They would be using the infamous Beast Arts of the Guan Clan now.
Although they hadn’t been able to master the first ten forms like Guan Xueyi had done, they had mastered more than seven. And with that number... surely they would be able to take down Liyu with it. To make matters even better, there was another reason why the Twin Fiends were called fiends in battle.
It was because of their seamless teamwork. That, coupled with the Beast Arts... then waves of refined qi gushed out of their bodies, strengthening them to their absolute peak. With all of these combined... they were certain they would be able to land a devastating attack on Liyu.
Liyu watched their serious expressions and the fact that they were already going all out. Yet he still couldn’t help the sigh that escaped from his mouth as he shook his head. They were still very weak.
He thought that if he attacked now, they would lose immediately, and he wasn’t exactly good at holding back.
He hated holding back, after all. That was why, no matter whether it was a normal punch or a serious punch, it always caused his opponents some kind of loss. Whether it was a tooth... or, even better... a broken bone.
So if he struck now... without boasting, he was more than certain that the Twin Fiends wouldn’t be able to last ten minutes before dropping to the ground like marionettes with their strings cut.
He shook his head. Actually... he would have done just that. But he wanted to disgrace the Guan Clan.
Liyu was able to tell without any doubt that the Guan Clan and the Shi Clan’s motives today were not only to defeat the Li Clan and crush all of their candidates... but also to mock them and disgrace them, dragging the face of the Li Clan through the mud. Liyu’s smile became a wicked one as he thought... If that is the case... why don’t I pay them back with their own coin?
Actually, they never got the chance to pay him with that coin to begin with. But that wasn’t an important detail. He would simply pay them with the coins they never got the chance to use on him.
With that said... to put things simply... Liyu was going to make this match the most disgraceful match of the tournament. He would turn the Guan Clan’s name into a joke after this.
With that thought... Liyu moved. The Twin Fiends tensed up slightly as they thought he was finally about to become serious and use some powerful combat art as well. But that wasn’t what happened. What happened was far more... crazy.
His right hand slipped into his pocket, while his left hand pulled out a small comic book. He looked at the two brothers before speaking, "I will give you the chance to throw everything you have at me while I read this," he said, signalling toward the book in his hand.
"If I finish reading it and you still haven’t been able to secure a victory... then count yourselves finished."
He said before opening the first page of the book. The moment that happened... it was as though a strange spell had befallen everyone in the Ray Arena. The Twin Fiends’ eyes couldn’t stop twitching.
The eyes of the crowd twitched as well. Then there were the eyes of the referee... the eyes of the candidates... and even the clan leaders. None of them were spared.
They simply couldn’t control the twitching of their eyes. The only thought in the minds of everyone who had heard Liyu’s bold declaration was made up of three simple words...
What the hell?
