Chapter 130: Two Vs One
Chapter 130
Soon Liyu reached the first counter. Five men were there to take everyone’s bets, and the Five were all from the Rising Wave Sect, just like Elder Ting and the referee.
They were all at the peak of the Foundation Realm as well, making handling all these tasks so easy for them and not overwhelming in the slightest, unlike how it would have been for a normal mundane human.
If a mundane human had been the one standing behind the betting counter, then they wouldn’t have been able to handle it, but because the three were cultivators, they were able to manage everything easily and quickly, doing what needed to be done with remarkable speed.
"Do you want all your coins to be given to you now, or do you want to bet some of it?" The man standing across from Liyu asked with a calm, unreadable expression on his face.
Liyu shook his head.
Seeing the shake of his head, the man interpreted it as Liyu not being assured of his ability to take down the Twin Fiends and so wasn’t betting on himself. The man wasn’t going to ridicule him though, after all, learning your own limits was a good thing.
What he was a bit unhappy about was him leading many into betting on him, only for them to lose the little they had left. Why did Liyu have to go around declaring that he was going to beat the two Twin Fiends?
Liyu, though, was making a quick calculation before speaking up after a few seconds had passed. "I believe that I have 14,950 gold coins, right?"
Liyu had bet 299 gold coins on himself during the match against Shi Lan, and he had won, meaning that his money would be increased fiftyfold. With a quick calculation, it was clear that he now had close to 15,000 gold coins, a truly massive amount of money. To put it simply, he was rich now.
But Liyu wasn’t satisfied. Why should he settle down yet when he could even multiply the money by another tenfold, meaning that he would be getting 149,500 gold coins when he won?
Because he would win. There wasn’t the slightest doubt about it in his heart. So one could clearly see that he still had more to earn. There was no way he wasn’t going to keep betting.
The man at the counter was about to transfer all of Liyu’s money into a storage pouch and hand it over to him, after all, he believed that Liyu wanted to collect it now. But the next moment, he froze where he stood when Liyu spoke. "I am betting all 14,950 gold coins on myself to win my next match."
The man froze, then slowly looked at him as if asking whether he was really serious or simply joking. Liyu’s gaze remained serious. There wasn’t the slightest hint of joking, sarcasm, or playfulness in his eyes.
The man’s eyes started twitching violently when he realised that the kid wasn’t joking. He was really going to risk 14,950 gold coins as though it were nothing. He is truly a prodigal son. Why waste so much? It would only make sense if he was absolutely certain that he could win.
He looked into Liyu’s eyes and saw it. Confidence. Or should he call it pride? The kid seemed so certain of his own victory that the man found himself unable to curse him as he had been about to do. He sighed inwardly.
That amount of money was the same as his yearly allowance from the sect. So seeing someone stake such a huge amount made his skin crawl slightly, but in the end, he let it go and simply nodded before registering Liyu’s bet.
Although he had very little faith in Liyu defeating his two opponents, the man still couldn’t help the thought that suddenly sprang into his mind. What if he actually wins? The thought sent a shiver through his finances.
That would mean he would be getting 149,500 gold coins instead. The man’s eyes twitched. That amount was enough to make anyone filthy rich in the Night Region. One could even buy a small city and become its owner. And that was the amount Liyu could win if he managed to defeat his two opponents.
The man shook his head. He thought about it for a while, and then a strange smile curled onto the corner of his mouth. What if I bet on this kid and he wins? I would be getting ten times my money.
But he could also easily lose, he thought at the same time, and shook his head. I will take the risk for now. He decided to bet just 100 gold coins. It was still a rather large sum of money, but nothing that would make him cry if Liyu lost.
Also, if he won, he would be getting 1,000 gold coins. That was more than a fair deal to make. He thought for a moment before looking up.
Standing opposite him was another young man. He was one of those who had bet on Liyu in the last match. The man looked at him before asking, "Are you collecting all your coins now, or do you want to bet some of it?"
Li Bao, hearing the man speak to him, recovered from the thoughts that had been running through his mind. He looked at the man and nodded. "I would collect 8,000 gold coins now and bet the remaining 2,000 gold coins on Young Master Liyu," he said it plainly.
He had contemplated whether he should bet the entire 10,000 gold coins that he had won on Liyu, but then decided against it. After all, no matter how much faith he had in Liyu and how much he hoped that he would win, there was still a rather high chance that he was going to lose.
His opponents weren’t just one person but two, both of whom were far above him in terms of cultivation realm. To make matters worse, the two brothers were the Twin Fiends of the Guan Clan. Although their name wasn’t as popular as the Anomaly Brothers, they didn’t lose out in the feats that they had performed.
It was just that, in the Night Region, the locals and common people loved the Li Clan more than the other two great clans, and that was why. So, in short, the Twin Fiends were terrifying opponents to face.
And the fact that they worked together in perfect tandem was also something that made fighting one of them difficult. Fighting the two at once... now that was the epitome of real trouble. So, as much as Li Bao hated to think this, there was still a rather high chance that Liyu was going to lose.
His clan losing the tournament was something that would bring him pain... but losing over 10,000 gold coins? Now that was something that might give him a heart attack. So he couldn’t risk it. In case Liyu won, he would still be getting 20,000 gold coins, which was still a massive amount.
After taking his bet, the man nodded, feeling a little complicated about just how much these people believed in the Liyu kid. Li Xie and Li Jie were next in the betting line. Li Xie had bet 100 gold coins on Liyu before and had won 5,000 gold coins in return.
Now, when he was asked the same question the man had asked Li Bao and Liyu, his answer shocked the man at the betting counter. "I’m betting all the coins on Brother Yu."
The man asked once more, wondering whether there was something wrong with his hearing, but he hadn’t heard wrongly. Another prodigal son, he thought as he registered the bet without complaining much. If Liyu won, Li Xie would be getting 50,000 gold coins. That must have been the amount that made him bet everything.
The man shook his head. Though the man’s thoughts were wrong, Li Xie didn’t place the bet because he was after the money. Instead, he simply wanted to see Liyu win, and he believed that Liyu would receive even more luck in winning as long as Li Xie supported him with everything he had.
Li Jie’s mind was more practical, as he only bet 2,000 gold coins on Liyu and took the remaining 3,000 gold coins into his hand. As much as he hated it, he believed Liyu had acted too arrogantly this time.
When he had advised him to fight the Guan brothers, he meant that he should take them down one at a time. Fighting the Guan brothers together... that was madness. He shook his head as he walked back to his seat. The betting continued.
At the leaders’ seats, Shi Gubing turned his face toward Guan Ju. "Clan Lord Guan... aren’t you going to bet on your candidates? Don’t you have any hope in them winning?"
Guan Ju sneered before a mocking smile curled across the side of his face. "You guys would get your views overturned soon enough.
There is a reason the Guan brothers are called the Fiend Brothers, and Liyu has made the mistake of challenging the two brothers at once. He would lose."
With that said, he bet 100,000 gold coins on his candidates to win. He relaxed in his seat with a calm smile on his face, as if he had already seen himself receiving 400,000 gold coins from the betting. Shi Gubing rubbed his cheek before thinking.
If Liyu was facing one opponent, he might win, but fighting against two... now that was something Shi Gubing didn’t think the bratty loser could pull off. His hatred for Liyu had risen by more than a thousand percent after he had won and crushed Shi Lan in the most brutal way possible.
Shi Gubing, even in his dead body, wouldn’t be betting on a Li, so he decided to bet on the Guan brothers. They better win... or else he would kill them. Shi Gubing bet 50,000 gold coins on them.
Li San’s gaze remained calm, as if he shared none of the concerns of the other members of the Shi Clan, who were starting to doubt Liyu and believe that he would lose in this second round. And anyone thinking that would be right... because that was exactly what Li San was thinking.
He was almost certain that Liyu would win. No... he was totally certain. After seeing Liyu’s performance against Shi Lan, Li San had been stunned beyond words, and after finally coming to terms with something so shocking, he found it hard to believe that the two brothers, who were only at the seventh stage of the Qi Refining Realm, would be able to win.
Of course, in every normal sense, they should have been more than enough to secure an easy victory against someone like Liyu, who was only at the first stage of the Qi Gathering Realm.
So, in short, it was Liyu who made no sense whatsoever. But still, Li San was dead set on believing that Liyu would win.
He even seemed to still be holding back from unleashing his full might as well... almost as if he had some other hidden card. He can’t lose. He would win. Li San thought as he decided to bet with the fortune he had earned.
Earlier, he had bet the large sum of 100,000 gold coins on Liyu to win, and he had won, making him earn a staggering amount of 5,000,000 gold coins. Such a fortune made his smile become even warmer, if that was possible, as he laughed internally, although on the outside his face still wore the usual calm expression.
Without hesitating, he bet the entire five million gold coins on Liyu once again. If he won, then he would be getting fifty million gold coins. He is super rich and super wealthy now. Li San couldn’t help himself from chuckling, unable to contain the joy blooming inside his chest.
If he converted that into emerald coins, that would be 5,000 emerald coins. Li San shook his head. That much wealth was almost an half of the total coins owned by the Li Manor.
To put things into perspective, the entire Li Clan’s annual earnings were only 1,000 emerald coins per year, which was also the same as ten million gold coins.
So one could easily see the amount of wealth he would amass if Liyu won his next match. He and the clan would be rich.
Li San was not the only one daydreaming about swimming in an abundance of wealth after the tournament ended.
The same could be said for Elder Ting as well. Just like Li San, who had bet 100,000 gold coins on Liyu, he had bet even more, wagering 120,000 gold coins on the kid. He was equally happy that he had won six million gold coins.
And once again, just like Li San, he believed that Liyu was not done yet and would win his next match, meaning that he would be getting sixty million gold coins. A mouth-watering amount of money, even to an elder of a powerful sect like Elder Ting. After all, that was the same as 6,000 emerald coins.
Truly massive. Who knows... this Liyu kid must be my lucky star today, he thought.
Meanwhile, after several long minutes had passed and the thousands of betting participants had been attended to as quickly as possible by the five attendants, Liyu returned to the stage with a calm smile on his face as he waited for the two people he had challenged.
He was certain that they wouldn’t reject his challenge. And he was right. Soon, two people stood up from the Guan Clan camp and walked forward. One carried a battle axe that was clearly a powerful spirit weapon resting on his shoulder, his face dark.
The other had numerous daggers hanging from his clothes, four at his sides, while the rest were hidden across different parts of his body. Liyu raised an eyebrow as he thought... and these two were supposed to be twins? Not only did they not look anything alike, but the two were also different in what seemed like age and size as well.
The one carrying the battle axe, ironically, had the smaller build, around the same size as Liyu, while the larger man... not that much larger, but still bigger... was the one carrying the daggers. Crazy, Liyu thought as he shook his head.
The two Guan brothers stepped onto the stage, their gazes fierce as they unleashed their auras, causing the air to suddenly become slightly heavier. "Brother... let us teach this bastard his lesson for messing with us," the one carrying the axe said, his gaze narrowing.
The larger of the twins nodded as he unsheathed his daggers. "Yes... let us teach him a lesson."

Alright everyone! Time for a quick explanation of the currency system in Rayden’s world! 💰
Don’t worry, there won’t be a test afterward... probably.
The currency hierarchy goes like this:
🪙 Copper Coin – The most common currency, mainly used by ordinary people in villages and small towns.
🥉 Bronze Coin = 10 Copper Coins – Still commonly used by ordinary citizens, but worth considerably more than copper.
🥈 Silver Coin = 100 Bronze Coins – The currency of wealthy merchants, noble families, and rich non-cultivators. Most people could spend their entire lives without casually carrying one around.
🥇 Gold Coin = 1,000 Silver Coins – This is where the real money starts. Mostly used by cultivators and truly wealthy individuals. In the cultivation world, gold is the most commonly circulated high-value currency.
💚 Emerald Coin = 10,000 Gold Coins – Now we’re entering the territory of the truly powerful. These are mainly owned by great clans, powerful sects, influential merchants, and high-ranking cultivators. Most people will never even see one in their lifetime.
And finally...
The king of all currencies.
The absolute peak.
The legendary...
🖤 Obsidian Coin = 100,000 Emerald Coins!
Yes... you read that correctly.
One.
Hundred.
Thousand.
Emerald Coins.
This isn’t the kind of coin you accidentally find lying under your bed.
An Obsidian Coin possesses enough purchasing power to buy entire cities... and in some cases, even smaller sects. Only the strongest factions, ancient clans, supreme organisations, and a handful of the world’s most influential individuals possess them.
To put that into perspective...
1 Obsidian Coin = 100,000 Emerald Coins
= 1,000,000,000 Gold Coins
= 1,000,000,000,000 Silver Coins
= 100,000,000,000,000 Bronze Coins
= 1,000,000,000,000,000 Copper Coins.
Yep...
That’s ONE QUADRILLION Copper Coins.
So if an ordinary person somehow stumbled upon a single Obsidian Coin...
Congratulations.
Not only would they never have to work another day in their life, but their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and probably the next several generations after that would all be ridiculously wealthy...
Assuming, of course, nobody in the family suddenly develops the legendary cultivation technique known as "Financial Self-Destruction Art." 😅
So yes...
The currency system in this world is a little terrifying.
But don’t worry, you’ll get used to it soon enough.
As always, thank you all for reading! Don’t forget to vote, leave your thoughts in the comments, and continue supporting the novel. Every bit of support helps this author continue his cultivation journey... and maybe one day I’ll earn enough to buy my own Obsidian Coin... or at least fix my PC without crying. 😂
