Chapter 162: Lazy Rayden’s Lament
Chapter 163
Meanwhile, back in the Beast Forest... A terrifyingly loud sound of destruction rang outwards, followed by miniature bang bang sounds. This repeated at almost every ten to twenty minutes interval.
The very battlefield, which in this case was the forest, was totally decimated as if two powerful titans were having their clashes here. The trees had been shattered, and their splinters flew everywhere.
The ground had been decimated and seemed to have been over-ploughed by titanic force. In simple words, the forest seemed to have seen the worst of its days.
When one looked closely, they would see the bodies of beasts lying at almost every corner of the large forest. The beasts were of every size and shape, from horned rabbits that were the smallest of the bunch to the log bears, which were the largest.
Their corpses littered the ground wildly, piling over and over again atop each other.
The beasts were not at the same power level and ranged from the mid stages of the Body Refinement Realm all the way to the late stage of that realm, crossing into the Qi Gathering Realm and then all the way to the Qi Refining Realm.
Of all stages, with all sorts of powers and abilities. Anyone would have been shocked and pale seeing the corpses of such large beasts, which had been torn apart.
They would have probably pissed their pants if they were to have found them alive to begin with. The beasts were just that many in number, and they were far from being weak. No, not at all.
The fact that the aura they gave off even after death would threaten the most sturdy and veteran of warriors, not to talk of when they were still alive, would make many wonder just what kind of calamity was responsible for massacring such a huge number of beasts.
Well, they would be wrong about two things. One was the fact that this was not done by one person, but three reflections of a particular troublesome fellow.
The other was the fact that they weren’t titans... But otherworldly handsome men. The air split apart as the sounds of battling echoed through the forest over and over again. After a while, it ceased, though, and the sound of something landing could be heard.
Three figures landed on the ground, their backs facing one another as they stood side by side, their faces serious. Well, at least the faces of the first two were. While the face of the third seemed like the latter was half asleep.
King Rayden, with his hands gripping two lightning daggers, looked around at the mountain of beasts that they had managed to wipe out, and yet... He looked around them, and there they were.
Thousands upon thousands of beasts. They surrounded them, their gazes reddening with maddening frenzy as they were more than ready to pounce on the trio.
Dead Eye Rayden calmly adjusted his machine gun, which he had decided to use after seeing that the number of beasts they were dealing with was increasing and they were trying to mobilize against him. As for King Rayden, he had switched from using a longsword to two daggers.
They were easier to use against weaker opponents, while he could easily morph them into swords of any kind to deal with the difficult ones.
As for the lazy Rayden... The trick he had used to kill the beasts was nothing much, and it couldn’t work on a horde. Since the beasts were crazy enough to not get his subtle warning, they had attacked him, and he had wiped out a large section of them using his fists and kicks.
He was not the only one that had managed to wipe out a large section off. The same could be said about the other two as well. All of them together had killed a staggering number of beasts.
The towering number of dead beasts was a testimony to the massacre that they had caused. And yet... Lazy Rayden looked around, and his half-lidded eyes dropped slightly before muttering his two best phrases under his breath.
*Too troublesome...*
King Rayden, at this moment, didn’t think the guy was wrong. If anything, he was supporting that phrase for once because, looking at the staggering number of beasts that were surrounding them from all sides, their eyes glowing with raging killing intent, even he couldn’t help but agree.
King Rayden slowly looked away from the beasts and locked his gaze with the four-spiked gorilla, with crimson flames raging across its fur and claws as if the beast was from the infernal depths itself.
The beast hadn’t made any move and had only watched them while giving orders to the beasts around it. And the order? Well, it revolved around the same thing.
*Tear them apart.*
King Rayden shook his head before speaking, his tone calm and regal, like the tone of a nobleman. "You might want to rethink this.
Many of your friends have already fallen. If you continue with this pursuit of yours, then your remaining friends might meet the same brutal end," King Rayden said, trying to reason with the four-spiked gorilla, which seemed to be the one capable of calling off this assault. And so, he really hoped that it would.
But that didn’t happen. His words, which were meant to start peace and negotiate peacefully, seemed to have the opposite effect on the four-spiked gorilla, which had a raging look before growling in a deep, rumbling voice.
"Kill them... Kill them all."
The beasts, hearing their superior’s command, all tensed up, ready to dive headfirst into the battle once more. King Rayden’s gaze dimmed slightly.
"I guess the first option failed then. Seems like only the second option is left."
King Rayden notched the elbow of Dead Eye Rayden and nodded. Now... The beasts all lunged at them. Claws and fangs, talons, beaks, and all kinds of other weapons were all stretched out and elongated, ready to rip into them and tear them into numerous pieces.
But just then... *Whoosh!* Green lightning flashed, and the trio escaped the ambush. King Rayden landed smoothly, the other two landing beside him. Streaks of green lightning curled around them for a few seconds before vanishing.
*Now...* Dead Eye Rayden muttered silently, almost quietly. And yet, what followed was not something calm or silent. A loud, terrifying bang rang outward in all directions, shaking the very forest itself.
"Good job," King Rayden said.
Earlier, before the beasts fell on them, feeling the notch and then the nod without any words being spoken, Dead Eye Rayden knew what the first reflection needed him to do. And he did that the very next second.
Ripping one of the buttons hanging on his clothes off, he turned it into what many in the cultivation world might not have any idea about. But if Liyu were to be here, he would have recognized it almost immediately. It was a grenade.
Although this wasn’t like the green grenade back on Earth. It was dark and seemed to be made from obsidian rock, with rough and rocky edges. The lines on it had several red markings.
Two of those were dropped behind before King Rayden brought them away from there, and the beasts slammed into the place the very next second.
With them surrounding it, the red marks, which had been lighting up the moment they touched the ground, finally lit up fully. Then they glowed with a brilliant red light. And what followed after that was a destructive force many did not even believe existed.
The beasts that were super close to the grenade were totally erased due to how much closer they were to the grenade. The next set after that were also wiped out, their bodies torn into numerous pieces. And the ones after those were not spared either.
There was no way they were surviving. They were all surely dead now. Most of them would be dead, perhaps... No matter how insane and overly destructive the weapon used by Dead Eye Rayden was, there were still thousands of those beasts, and the majority of them couldn’t have been killed.
King Rayden’s thought was proven right the very next moment as the sounds of something rushing forward assaulted the air.
The dark, bellowing smoke raised by the explosion was shattered apart as many beasts that had not been affected by the blast rushed out. And to put it simply... There were still so many of them.
They charged at the group with madness and a sense not only of bloodlust but also of the desire to avenge their fallen kin. Many of their kin had fallen.
King Rayden sighed as he saw the beasts rushing towards them with maddening frenzy before speaking, his tone sounding a bit somber. "You guys don’t over-exhaust yourself, and watch each other’s backs." With that, his two daggers danced as he streaked towards the beasts.
Lazy Rayden’s eye twitched slightly at King Rayden’s words. If he wasn’t himself, he would have almost believed that the green-haired clone was his older brother watching out for him.
And perhaps the guy was truly watching out for them. But sincerely, Lazy Rayden couldn’t be any more concerned about whether that was the case or not. As far as he was concerned, he still bore a grudge against the original and his reflection.
Although that was just him being petty. Who cared? They were the ones he was watching out for, after all. He hadn’t gotten a good sleep ever since he had been summoned here.
*Too troublesome...* Lazy Rayden used a hand to brush his face in frustration. Why couldn’t they just allow him some time to sleep? His good, sweet sleep...
"Hey, you. You heard the first man. Let’s watch each other’s backs." Dead Eye Rayden spoke to Lazy Rayden, who seemed to be lamenting something.
The lazy guy didn’t speak. His expression said everything there was to be said. Lazy Rayden gave some distance between himself and Dead Eye Rayden.
He wanted the beasts to rush to Dead Eye Rayden’s place, after all. Between a harmless, sleepy guy who seemed weak and the one carrying a machine gun, ready to rain down chaos... Which one would the beasts go for? Well, the answer was simple.
They would surely go for the one with the gun. To Lazy Rayden’s disbelief, though, what he was expecting didn’t happen. Instead, what happened next made his eyes twitch.
A large number of beasts, well, the ones remaining after some had split off to deal with King Rayden, who was dealing with them in brutal ways, rushed forward. The wails and dying cries of the beasts were a testament to that.
The rest that were left, which were still more than enough, rushed forward. Over forty percent rushed toward Dead Eye Rayden, while the larger number of beasts rushed forward and soon surrounded Lazy Rayden, who was rubbing his head furiously, his eyes twitching.
"Damnation, really..."
Lazy Rayden shook his head. He should have expected this. After all, looking weak triggered the predatory instinct of beasts. Kill the prey.
Lazy Rayden looked at the beasts with a half-lidded eye, although the second eye that seemed to be almost closed showed a hint of irritation before he spoke. His tone was blank, with not much emotion.
Yet almost all the beasts that were planning to launch themselves at him froze when they heard him speak.
"I will give you a chance to run and stop disturbing me."
He looked up slowly, his sleepy gaze somehow looking dangerous before continuing. "Because trust me, if this continues, you might force me to get serious."
A hand held his yawning mouth as he continued.
"And trust me... None of you want to know what your fate will be if I get serious."
