Chapter 106: True Genius
Chapter 106
Li Feng’s voice was calm as he called Guan Xiu back onto the stage. Every member of the audience was immediately roused, even more than before, as they realized that Li Feng intended to take down Guan Xiu and avenge Li Jie.
Guan Xiu’s gaze darkened as she looked at Li Feng, who was still standing in one spot, patiently waiting for her. His face revealed nothing... no anger, no rage... the only thing reflected in his expression was unwavering resolve.
"This is your chance, Sister Xiu, to regain your lost pride," Guan Feng said as he looked at her. "Defeat Li Feng, and perhaps the Clan Lord won’t punish you too severely for your earlier failure."
The others nodded in agreement; even Haoran gave a small nod. If Guan Xiu really managed to defeat Li Feng, who was considered an even greater genius than the Anomaly Brothers, then the shame she had suffered would no longer be as severe, and the punishment she would undoubtedly receive from the Clan Lord would also be greatly reduced.
Hearing all their words, Guan Xiu’s eyes became firm as she nodded. She was going to defeat Li Feng.
No... she was going to crush him effortlessly. With her resolve strengthened, determined to defeat Li Feng before he could play any tricks like Li Jie and disgrace her again, she stepped onto the stage and assumed her stance at the opposite end.
No one looked at Guan Xiu as though she had been treated unfairly because she hadn’t. Her previous opponent had been Li Jie, someone weaker than herself, and although he had managed to wound her in several places, none of those injuries were truly serious.
In fact, she was almost in perfect condition; the few cuts Li Jie had left on her body had already been sealed with refined qi, so they wouldn’t hinder her movements or weaken her combat ability.
Also... her opponent this time was someone who was also weaker than herself, so she wouldn’t have any trouble winning. At least... that was what logic said, and that was what she chose to believe. There was no way she was going to lose.
The referee stepped forward and introduced the two warriors. "The Beauty of the Guan Clan will now face the true genius of the Li Clan! Now... let the battle begin!" He snapped his fingers.
He half expected either Li Feng or Guan Xiu to charge toward one another at their fastest speed and immediately engage in battle, yet neither of them moved.
Guan Xiu brought out her bladed fans and beckoned for Li Feng to come forward, although she doubted he would even be able to see her with his eyes already covered. Why did he even cover his eyes? Just to show off? "These Li Clan brats really are too arrogant while being completely weak."
Li Feng, his sword still sheathed, slowly began walking toward Guan Xiu. One step at a time, his expression remained calm and composed. Eventually, he stopped only an arm’s length away from her. Guan Xiu couldn’t help but sneer.
"So... you want to die that quickly? Then I’ll grant your request." The moment her words fell, she struck with her full speed. She held absolutely nothing back... neither her speed nor her strength.. she intended to end this battle right here and now.
As her attack shot forward, Li Feng used Ripple Step, perfectly timing the rhythm of her attack. Then... "Slow," he said. In the next instant, he appeared behind her in a blur. His sword left its sheath at a speed so terrifying that even Guan Xiu couldn’t follow it with her eyes.
A large crimson gash suddenly split open across her chest. Guan Xiu’s heart trembled violently as an intense wave of pain surged through every nerve in her body.
She called back her fan blades and immediately attacked Li Feng, but with another step, he used Flash Step.
His figure vanished and instantly appeared right above her head, his sword already descending like a judgment from the heavens.
Guan Xiu felt an immense phantom pain even before the strike landed; Li Feng’s reaction speed and attack speed seemed almost instantaneous, making it impossible for her to adjust to the sudden change quickly enough. "Gale Slash," Li Feng called out.
His sword drew a brilliant arc across Guan Xiu’s back, and a crimson line immediately burst open. A gasp of pain escaped Guan Xiu’s lips as blood sprayed from the wound. She hurriedly tried to turn around, but she barely managed to face him before Li Feng landed on the ground and attacked ferociously once again.
She desperately blocked every strike that came her way, yet the instant Li Feng’s feet touched the ground once more, he used Ripple Step. What followed was another slash; this time, a deep crimson wound appeared across Guan Xiu’s shoulder.
The pain made her grip on her fan waver for only a brief moment, but that single moment was all Li Feng needed. Performing a rapid spin, he gathered a tremendous amount of qi into his leg before unleashing Gale Whip... the technique he had completely mastered and could use better than anyone else.
The kick smashed into the back of Guan Xiu’s head. Her face was driven violently into the ground with such immense force that the white marble stage cracked apart beneath her. But Li Feng wasn’t done.
With his qi focused around his sword, he slammed his knee into Guan Xiu’s back. She coughed out another mouthful of blood as another wave of pain surged through her body. Then, before she could even process what had happened, Li Feng calmly spoke: "Gale Thrust."
Before she could react, a pain unlike anything she had ever experienced ravaged her entire body. She immediately felt unbearable agony explode through her right arm. Li Feng’s expression didn’t change in the slightest as he twisted the blade before driving it sideways with all of his strength.
The result... an unimaginably deep and gruesome wound tore through Guan Xiu’s right arm. Before she could even comprehend it, another scorching wave of pain shot through her nerves. She couldn’t feel her right arm anymore.
In desperation, she threw one of her fan blades toward Li Feng’s head. It was incredibly fast; it should have struck him, yet all Li Feng did was tilt his head slightly to the side. The blade flew harmlessly past him.
Guan Xiu was stunned. What kind of reaction speed was that? She didn’t remain shocked for long; before her thoughts could fully form, another burning pain exploded through her nerves. This time... it came from her left arm.
She desperately hardened her arm further with refined qi, hoping to stop the blade from rendering it useless, but she failed once again. Soon... her left arm also became numb. At that point, Guan Xiu released a burst of refined qi, creating a powerful shockwave that forced Li Feng away from her before she hurriedly got back onto her feet.
She hadn’t even managed to regain her bearings when she suddenly felt a shadow fall over her. Looking up... all she managed to see was a spinning figure descending from above, followed by a qi-charged kick. It struck her squarely on the head. She was smashed back into the ground once again.
Blood spilled from her mouth as the accumulated injuries throughout her body finally began taking their toll. Yet she knew she had to recover the situation. She instinctively tried to strike back... only to remember that both of her arms had already been rendered nearly useless.
Before she could think of another solution, she saw Li Feng raising his sword high above his head exactly as he had done before. "Eight Gale Art... Gale Slash." The moment the words left his mouth, the sword came crashing down. It sliced straight through Guan Xiu’s qi-strengthened body, carving open a massive bloody gash.
The pain was so overwhelming and brutal that she could no longer suppress it. A heart-wrenching scream echoed throughout the entire arena.
She was truly in a world of unbearable pain. He had torn that entire side of her body open. Li Feng’s face remained calm, but his mind was anything but. *This bastard needs to be punished. Despicable... ganging up on weaker opponents.
I will make the others know exactly what their fate will be if they dare gang up on us.* He still hadn’t carved her up enough, so he continued slashing her again and again. Guan Xiu’s voice had become hoarse from all the screaming she had done, yet Li Feng’s rage and thirst to punish her were still not satisfied.
He slowly raised his sword once more, his eyes fixed on her face, ready to carve it apart as well. Before he could bring the blade down, however, a hand suddenly gripped his shoulder. In that instant, every movement in his body was completely suppressed.
"Enough. You have more than won. Any more than this, and you will be disqualified." Li Feng remained still for a few seconds before finally nodding. The overwhelming pressure disappeared, and control over his body returned.
He calmly cut off a clean piece of Guan Xiu’s clothing... the only part that wasn’t yet soaked in blood... and used it to wipe the blood from his sword. After cleaning the blade, he slowly sheathed it before turning toward the referee.
Understanding what the young man wanted, the referee nodded before loudly announcing, "Li Feng versus Guan Xiu... Li Feng wins. Low difficulty."
The entire crowd fell silent; they were simply too stunned. Stunned beyond words. After all, they had just witnessed something that should have been impossible.
A seventh-stage Qi Gathering cultivator had completely overwhelmed a sixth-stage Qi Refining cultivator. Everyone present found it difficult to believe. Li Feng hadn’t merely won; he had won in an overwhelming and utterly dominant fashion.
He had even tortured Guan Xiu, who was now being dragged away beside Li Jie to receive treatment. How was any of this even possible? That was the question echoing through the minds of everyone in the audience.
They were all too shocked to even cheer for Li Feng’s overwhelming display of genius, skill, and brutality. He had truly shown Guan Xiu no mercy. At the leaders’ seats above, Elder Ting couldn’t help but smile as he nodded repeatedly while looking at Li Feng.
"This kid... despite being the weaker one, he made the first move. Using reaction speed and combat speed that were simply too overwhelming to contend against, he immediately forced Guan Xiu into a defensive position.
"And before she could even properly establish her defense, he struck again. One sharp, calculated move after another. He systematically dismantled her defense before finally securing victory."
"Despite being the weaker cultivator, he managed to achieve such an astonishing victory over someone stronger than himself. That... is simply amazing." His every move had been calculated. He reacted almost instantly to every movement his opponent made, continuously exploiting every weakness she exposed while breaking through her defenses one layer at a time.
One could say that even Elder Ting himself was genuinely surprised and taken aback by Li Feng’s talent, battle awareness, and reaction speed. "He is amazing," Elder Ting said with a satisfied smile.
He turned toward Li San. "If your son were to lose, then I will allow him to join the Rising Wave Sect. With his skills, he would surely become an inner disciple. You have nothing to worry about." He said this to Li San, who simply smiled faintly before nodding. Even he was surprised by his son’s performance.
If he had to describe it in one word... it would be efficient. Efficient and amazing. He was truly impressed by Li Feng’s outstanding performance. Meanwhile, the Clan Lord of the Guan Clan looked as though he had swallowed something bitter as he stared at Li Feng with a mixture of hatred and awe.
"That kid is a true genius." Being someone far stronger than Li Feng himself, Guan Ju could clearly read every one of his movements. And if there was one thing he had to say about the battle... from the very first move to the very last strike that brought Guan Xiu down... everything had been perfectly calculated.
Every movement. Every attack. Every dodge. Every transition. Everything seemed perfectly efficient.
He couldn’t even bring himself to blame Guan Xiu; she might have been able to make the battle far more difficult for Li Feng if she hadn’t let her guard down during that brief moment at the beginning of the fight, but she simply hadn’t expected what happened afterward.
But even if she hadn’t slipped up, she would have only managed to put up a better fight and perhaps wound Li Feng as well. He still doubted she would have been able to defeat him.
Guan Ju sighed inwardly before shaking his head. "It doesn’t matter anyway. Out of the five candidates... only one had been defeated. There were still four more Golden Tokens left. He could still win four of them."
Of course, he knew that wasn’t realistic. After all, the infamous Devil of the Shi Clan would never leave here without claiming at least one token. Still... his clan should be able to secure two or perhaps three. After all, just as the Shi Clan had their ace... he also had one.
His gaze shifted toward Haoran, who was once again trying to stop Xueyi from bickering with everyone around her. Meanwhile, the crowd had finally recovered from their shock. The entire arena erupted with thunderous cheers.
Applause echoed endlessly as chants of Li Feng’s name spread throughout the arena. "Li Feng! Li Feng! Li Feng!" Li Feng’s expression remained unchanged as he slowly untied the black cloth covering his eyes. He still had much to do.
Guan Xiu... was only the beginning. His gaze slowly shifted toward the Shi Clan’s camp. He would take one of them down next. His eyes swept across all five of their candidates one after another. At first, he considered challenging Shi Lan, but after a moment of thought, he abandoned the idea.
No. Shi Lan was at the eighth stage of Qi Refining; he was considerably stronger than Guan Xiu, and there was also that strange barrier surrounding him. He first needed to understand the Shi Clan’s fighting style before challenging someone like Shi Lan.
That would give him enough information to develop a strategy capable of defeating them. Eventually, his gaze settled on a young man with crimson-red hair. He was only at the sixth stage of Qi Refining, just like Guan Xiu.
Even without anyone telling him, Li Feng could already tell that this guy and Guan Xiu weren’t on the same level. He was stronger, without a doubt. Even so... Li Feng was confident he could defeat him. "You. I challenge you. Come onto the stage."
The red-haired Shi Clan disciple, who had been casually playing with his hair, raised an eyebrow before pointing at himself. "Me?" Li Feng nodded. "Come onto the stage. It’s your turn." "Oh... Finally. I thought I wasn’t going to have any fun today.
Who would’ve thought my turn to thrash another Li brat would come so soon?" The red-haired youth stood up before flashing Li Feng a bright, warm smile.
"Why not? I gladly accept your challenge."
