Chapter 137: Gravity Rise
Chapter 137
Elder Ting’s gaze couldn’t help but twitch as he looked at Liyu, who didn’t seem to be taking the battle seriously at all. If anything, the entire battle seemed as though it had been created purely to entertain him. "Are you sure that kid’s head isn’t messed up?"
Elder Ting asked as he leaned toward Li San, who was also looking at the battle below with a complicated expression.
He, of course, was also able to see the battle unfold, and unlike the others watching, due to the high cultivation realms they possessed, they were able to see everything with crystal-clear clarity.
And so, he too could clearly see the smile on Liyu’s face as he seemed genuinely excited. Even if someone couldn’t clearly see that he was fighting, they would have thought he was simply having fun with his friends rather than being locked in a deadly battle against someone as powerful as Shi Mo.
And to make matters worse...they weren’t merely assuming or imagining it. Liyu was indeed having fun. The entire battle...or perhaps even the entire tournament...he seemed to view it as nothing more than his personal playground.
The tournament, which, when put simply, would dictate the future of the three great clans of the Night Region...and here Liyu was, treating it like his own personal playground.
Li San didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at this madness. But either way, he was sincerely hoping that Liyu would become serious. After all, defeating Shi Mo was only the beginning.
Only after that would the real battles begin. Guan Haoran...and Shi Tian...those two were the true bosses of this tournament. Only after Liyu defeated both of them would Li San’s mind finally be at ease. "Tell me... did he perhaps hit his head when he was a child?" Elder Ting asked again.
Li San simply shrugged. He honestly had no idea. Who knew? Maybe the kid had actually hit his head when he fled into the Beast Forest to commit suicide.
Yes...that must have been when he lost all his sanity. Li San thought with a helpless sigh. And he had absolutely no idea just how close he was to the truth.
After all, Liyu really had hit his head after being ripped apart by the Saber Panther and thrown off the cliff. He had slammed into the ground with tremendous force...hit his head...died...and then returned as Rayden.
Not getting the answer he was looking for, Elder Ting leaned back into his seat and looked at the stage with narrowed eyes. If the battle proceeded at this pace, then Shi Mo would undoubtedly lose.
But something told him that the big guy was still far from showing the true extent of his power. After all...Gravity Qi couldn’t be considered one of the world’s rarest and most powerful unique Qi types if what Shi Mo had displayed so far was truly all it was capable of.
He leaned back, relaxing once more as he continued watching the battle below with complete interest. Meanwhile...the echoing bangs continued to ring throughout the arena. Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
"Go for it, Lord Giant! You can win this!"
"You’ve got this, Honoured One!" "Kick that giant’s ass!"
"You are the superior one, Lord Giant! Crush that arrogant Li Yu with your overwhelming strength!"
"Shut up! The Honoured One will win!" "No! He mustn’t win! I bet my money on the Shi Giant, so he must win!"
"What, you bastard? Then what about those of us who bet our money on the Honoured One?" " Why should that be my concern?"
"You bastard!" "The Honoured One must win!" someone shouted.
That person immediately retaliated with an even louder shout, "Shi Giant! Roll up the Li heir and kick him around like a ball! You must win, you hear me?!" The crowd refused to remain quiet as they cheered for the two locked in combat.
Not only that, but they also argued fiercely among themselves, each wanting the person they had bet on to emerge victorious. Which was perfectly understandable.
After all...no one wanted to lose their money. And to make matters worse, most of them had already lost a fortune because they had previously bet against Liyu and paid dearly for their ignorance with the loss of their wealth.
Now that some of them had finally chosen to bet on Liyu for once...he no longer seemed to be securing the overwhelming victories he had achieved in his previous matches. It was concerning for the audience...and even more depressing for those who had placed their bets.
Soon...the deafening bangs gradually quietened as the two sides disengaged after several long minutes of exchanging rapid blows, kicks, counters, and attacks powerful enough to crush and defeat most cultivators.
The two separated, leaving several metres between them. The crowd looked toward the stage. Then...they were struck by yet another wave of shock.
Their eyes widened in complete disbelief...landing several metres away from Liyu to the right was Shi Mo. His breathing was laboured and heavy, with beads of sweat forming at the sides of his head as he inhaled and exhaled in sharp breaths.
It was clear for any and all looking that he had been stressed by the first round of the fight, which was only normal. What was not normal though was...all gazes turned toward Liyu, who didn’t seem to have gone through any battle at all.
Instead, he stood there with one hand in his pocket, the other casually brushing his long hair back into place after it had been messed up during the exchange.
He wasn’t breathing heavily. There wasn’t a single bead of sweat on his face. Instead, he stood there grinning as though he was having the most thrilling party of his life. Liyu turned his gaze toward Shi Mo with a small smile, "Come on, buddy. Let’s go one more round," he said.
Shi Mo’s eyes nearly widened before narrowing as anger rose within his chest. He wasn’t angry at Liyu though. He was angry at himself for feeling like this. How could he be feeling as though he had already lost when he hadn’t even fully utilised his Mutated Qi yet?
How could he be feeling as though there was no hope of defeating Liyu? He hated himself for such cowardly thoughts and scoffed inwardly, "I can’t give up yet. I haven’t even given it my all."
He consoled himself, refusing to dwell on the other thoughts screaming through his mind. Monster. Freak. How the hell could someone be so monstrously powerful while still only being at the very first stage of Qi Gathering?
Now there was another update to Shi Mo’s train of thought. He realised that Liyu wouldn’t even need to step into the Qi Refining Realm before becoming someone capable of effortlessly crushing him.
No...not even that. Liyu only needed to reach the middle stages of Qi Gathering, and the current Shi Mo would have absolutely no hope of defeating him in battle. The thought alone terrified Shi Mo.
How could someone like him even exist? Without a shred of doubt in his mind, he was certain that Liyu was perhaps the greatest genius to have ever appeared in the entire Night Region...maybe even throughout the whole southern part of the continent.
He couldn’t say for sure about the rest of the continent. After all, the Continent of Lykana was unimaginably vast. Who was to say there wasn’t another monster like him somewhere out there in that endless world?
But even if they did exist...they would be incredibly rare. Of that, Shi Mo was certain. He took a deep breath to steady himself before his gaze became sharp and serious. Now...he needed to utilise his Mutated Qi in the best way possible.
No one needed to tell him that if he didn’t...he would truly lose this battle. With no more hesitation in his eyes, he slowly raised both hands into the air, his gaze sharpening further, "Twenty-fivefold increase...Gravity Rise."
The moment those words left his mouth, it was as though the very world’s gravity obeyed his command and responded to his will. The gravity surrounding the battle stage instantly increased to a staggering level.
Liyu’s expression changed. He almost collapsed face-first onto the ground, but managed to steady himself by placing his hands on his kneecap.
His face twisted slightly as the overwhelming pressure crashed down upon him, making him feel as though an entire mountain had been placed upon his shoulders. "Damn... this is too much."
Liyu groaned inwardly. Despite the fact that his situation looked extremely dire, the excitement rising from deep within his chest only continued to grow stronger. Now this...this is a worthy fight.
Nothing like all the previous disappointments he had been forced to deal with. Shi Mo had officially promoted himself into the category of people whose bones were truly worth breaking. "I’ll definitely break his bones," Liyu thought.
Although the pressure was still crushing him and he was struggling under its weight, he still managed to raise his head and look toward Shi Mo, who was staring back at him with a complicated expression.
Seeing that Liyu was still standing, Shi Mo couldn’t help but sigh inwardly before shaking his head. To think...he was still able to stand on both feet. Struggling? Yes. But he wasn’t even supposed to be struggling.
Anyone below the Qi Refining Realm should have already been flattened under such a terrifying increase in gravity. Even powerful Qi Refining experts would have their bones crushed beneath such overwhelming pressure.
Yet Liyu...he was still standing. And that crazy smile of his hadn’t faded in the slightest. "I guess that still wouldn’t be enough to deal with a freak like that," Shi Mo thought as he rubbed his cheek slightly.
He himself wasn’t affected in the slightest by the increased gravity covering the battle stage. Why should he be? After all, it was his own Mutated Qi that had caused the abrupt changes in the first place.
It only made perfect sense that he remained completely unaffected.
While Liyu was already being heavily suppressed beneath the terrifying gravity and Shi Mo remained untouched, he knew he should press the offensive. He should keep attacking until Liyu collapsed and every bone in his body was crushed.
That was the logical thing to do. But...Shi Mo wasn’t certain he could accomplish that. Even while being heavily suppressed beneath the force of his gravity, Liyu’s gaze remained as calm as ever. His grin never once faltered.
His eyes showed neither fear nor wariness. It was as though this entire situation still remained firmly within his control. As much as Shi Mo hated to admit it...he believed he would need more than this if he truly wanted to defeat Liyu.
So...he decided to take another step forward. Pressing one hand against his chest, he muttered quietly, "Tenfold decrease...Gravity Fall."
As he said that, the normal world pressure around him changed as it reduced by tenfold. His body felt as light as a feather as he suddenly felt like he could move as fast as the wind and strike like lightning.
Shi Mo’s gaze flashed as he felt that victory was finally within his grasp. The Gravity Qi was simply overpowered, and once again he was reminded just how fortunate he was to have awakened a Gravity Qi mutation, one that even surpassed Shi Tian’s Wind Qi.
Shi Mo clenched his fist, his confidence rising. His strength...his speed...his endurance...and every other aspect of his body had all been amplified due to his nearly weightless state. He felt reborn.
The joyful feeling didn’t last for long though. He suddenly felt his Qi reserves being drained at an alarmingly fast rate. "He couldn’t keep this up for long at all...or else all of his Qi Beads would run dry," Shi Mo thought.
The good news was...he wouldn’t need to. He turned his sharp gaze back toward Liyu, who was still struggling just to stand properly under the overwhelming pressure. Then...he vanished.
His speed was far too great for ordinary eyes to follow. He simply disappeared.
Liyu’s hair tingled as he sensed danger. He wanted to move. But alas...his body was locked firmly in place, unable to respond. Then...a world-shattering punch slammed into his face.
Bang! A terrifying explosion echoed throughout the arena as Liyu was blasted backwards. The impact would have sent him flying even farther if not for the fact that the gravity around them had currently been increased twenty-fivefold.
Liyu barely managed to come to a halt as he landed, his body still bent awkwardly as he struggled to remain standing beneath the overwhelming pressure. But then...he sensed danger once again. And once again...he couldn’t move.
Another deafening bang echoed as Liyu felt a tremendous force slam directly into his chest. His eyes widened slightly as his body curled inward. Then...Bang! Bang! Bang! Shi Mo showed no intention of relenting.
He attacked over and over again, smashing Liyu from the front...then the back...then the sides...above...below...everywhere. He was completely dominating the battle, making Liyu appear weak and helpless beneath his endless barrage of attacks.
The entire battle had undergone a drastic reversal. From an evenly matched fight...to Liyu being completely pushed onto the back foot. It now seemed as though he would be losing very soon.
The crowd watched in complete astonishment at the sudden shift in momentum. "Wait... why isn’t he striking back?" "Heck, he looks like he can’t even lift a finger right now!"
Someone from the crowd cried out in utter shock as they watched the scene unfold. This was the first time such a dramatic reversal had happened in the selection tournament.
From being evenly matched...to one person being completely suppressed by the other to such an extent that even lifting a single finger seemed to require an enormous amount of effort from Liyu. It was simply insane. At the seat of the leaders, Shi Gubing let out a dark, wicked smile as he nodded in satisfaction. "Good."
"Now that Shi Mo is fully utilising his Gravity Qi...that Li brat has absolutely no hope of winning. It is only a matter of seconds before he is completely crushed by Shi Mo," he thought to himself. This...this is the power of one of the rarest Qi types in the entire world.
Elder Ting’s eyes shone brilliantly as he observed the battle. His gaze lingered on the world’s gravity itself, which had been twisted and manipulated by Shi Mo to a level that someone in the Mortal Stages shouldn’t even come close to controlling.
Not even remotely. "So this is the power of a Unique Qi..." Elder Ting thought once more. Then...he smiled. He would definitely recruit this young man after the tournament ended. Elder Ting paused for a moment before looking back toward Liyu, who was currently receiving the beating of his life.
"Maybe...no...it seems the kid has finally met someone beyond him. He might have won had his opponent not only possessed Gravity Qi, but also wielded such dense and astonishing control over it. The kid will lose.
He can’t win anymore. The odds against him are simply too overwhelming," Elder Ting said as he slowly shook his head. "What a pity..."
Meanwhile...Liyu’s head was smacked violently to the side before an uppercut launched him high into the air. He was still unable to move a single finger as another devastating strike smashed him downward.
His body crashed heavily into the battle stage with a thunderous BANG! A fourth crater formed as he crashed into the arena once again. Pain surged through his nerves. His bones groaned beneath the impact.
Yet...his eyes remained steady. They weren’t locked onto Shi Mo. Instead...they were fixed upon the blue screen floating before him.
It read:
