Chapter 93: Clone Ranks
Chapter 93
Liyu blinked once, then stared blankly at nothing in particular. He really didn’t know what to think after hearing the system’s warning; he was going to die if his luck somehow helped him create an EX-Rank clone.
Liyu couldn’t help but think about it for a while. After all, if what the system was saying was true, then that meant the clones at the EX Rank would try to kill him. No, it clearly meant that they would immediately kill him, and Liyu found it difficult to understand because, to put it simply... it didn’t make any sense.
No sense at all. After all, hadn’t the system itself confirmed that he had absolute control over his clones? If that was the case, then they shouldn’t be capable of harming him.
"Hey, Sys... I don’t think I understand this well enough. Can you explain further?" Liyu couldn’t help but ask. "Do EX-Rank clones somehow surpass the system’s authority or something?" The system remained silent for a few moments before finally replying:
"Host, I know I told you that you have absolute control over your clones. However, that authority is limited by your own rank as a living being. Every being, regardless of race, possesses its own rank. You may consider it as a grade... the limit of a being’s power in relation to existence itself."
"These ranks begin from F-Rank, the weakest grade any living being can possess, all the way to SSS-Rank, the highest rank that an ordinary existence can naturally attain."
Liyu raised an eyebrow. "Wait... you forgot to mention EX Rank." He couldn’t help but point it out, thinking the system had made a mistake. The system, however, answered a few seconds later:
"No, Host. I did not forget. It is simply because those referred to as EX-Rank are no longer beings that can be classified within the ranking system. They are existences that have grown beyond the very bounds of existence itself."
"They are beings so powerful that no limit can be attached to them; they have surpassed gods... ancient monarchs... and countless other supreme existences. They are known only as... Absolute Beings."
Hearing all of that, Liyu couldn’t help but be completely stunned. Of course, he was familiar with the term "unranked" from the countless light novels he used to binge back on Earth.
It was usually used to represent something that was either too weak to be ranked... or something so overwhelmingly powerful that it simply couldn’t be measured. And anything that couldn’t be measured... definitely couldn’t be ranked.
"So, Host, as I was saying... EX-Rank beings are Absolute Beings. Although the reflections of those existences are currently imprisoned within your Infinite Reflection System, they remain completely restrained and incapable of doing anything.
However... the very moment one of them breaks free from the system’s absolute suppression... killing you would be no different from swatting a fly." The system paused briefly before speaking once more:
"Actually... even that comparison greatly underestimates them... while greatly overestimating you."
"No... you wouldn’t even survive for less than 0.00000000000000000001 of a microsecond. You wouldn’t even know how you died. Because, honestly... you wouldn’t die. You would simply cease to exist entirely."
Liyu remained frozen in place, his eyes widening more and more in absolute shock. How could such beings even exist? Beings that had grown beyond the grasp of existence itself. Deep down, he was certain the system wasn’t lying to him, which meant he truly should never, ever allow an EX-Rank clone’s creation process to finish.
Liyu finally closed his eyes before asking another question: "So... does that mean I’ll never be able to control EX-Rank clones?" "Actually... that’s not correct. You will be able to." The system’s answer instantly caused Liyu’s eyes to snap open; his pupils contracted violently. "Wait... I can?"
The system explained further: "As I said before, every being in existence has a rank assigned to them. Your authority over your clones is directly proportional to the rank gap between you and your clones." Liyu raised an eyebrow. After thinking for a few seconds, he finally got the gist of it and asked another question:
"So you’re telling me to increase my own rank? If I somehow manage to reach the EX Rank myself, then I’ll have absolute authority over my own EX-Rank reflections, isn’t that right?" The system replied almost immediately:
"You are correct. If you yourself reach the EX Rank, then controlling your own EX-Rank reflections would be perfectly natural."
The system then decided to explain everything in greater detail: "The Host is currently ranked at Mid S-Rank. Within every major rank, there exist five mini ranks: Low, Mid, High, Peak, Absolute. Crossing even a single mini rank is something that is insanely difficult... extremely and incredibly so."
"As for crossing an entire major rank, such as advancing from A-Rank to S-Rank, or from S-Rank to SS-Rank, it is something countless beings never even come close to achieving. In fact, more than ninety percent of all existence never manages to break through the limits that existence itself has placed upon them."
Liyu nodded as he silently listened to the system. "The Host can already be considered exceptional. Although you originally possessed no Spirit Root, you were already ranked at C-Rank, which in itself is a mystery. However, your rank experienced a tremendous surge due to the numerous extraordinary things the Host has obtained: the Divine-Grade Physique, the Divine-Grade Spirit Root, a high-level pet, the Divine-Grade Origin Eyes, and many more."
"Together, these allowed you to leap from the Low Mini Rank of C-Rank directly to the Mid Mini Rank of S-Rank. Such a leap is unprecedented. Those who have managed to accomplish something similar throughout existence can be counted on one’s fingers. This alone demonstrates just how exceptional the Host’s potential truly is."
Hearing all of that, Liyu couldn’t help but fall into deep thought. Low C-Rank... considering how weak he had been before restoring his Spirit Root... could that version of himself even be considered Low C-Rank?
Wouldn’t it have been more fitting if he had been placed at the weakest rank possible... F-Rank? So why exactly had he been ranked as B-Rank instead? He couldn’t help but wonder.
He genuinely wanted an answer; however, the system itself didn’t seem willing to explain it, or perhaps... he simply hadn’t reached the stage where he was qualified to uncover that mystery. After all, Liyu seriously doubted that a system as overwhelmingly powerful as this one wouldn’t know.
The mere fact that it had managed to imprison several unranked beings known as Absolute Beings within itself already proved just how terrifyingly powerful the system truly was. "Okay... continue." Liyu spoke after sorting through his thoughts. The system resumed its explanation:
"From C-Rank all the way to A-Rank, the Host possesses absolute control over every clone. As for S-Rank clones, depending on their mini rank, the Host’s authority ranges from absolute control down to ninety-five percent."
Liyu blinked; he understood immediately. If he himself managed to reach the Absolute Mini Rank within S-Rank, then naturally he would possess complete authority over every S-Rank clone regardless of its mini rank. The system continued: "For SS-Rank clones, your authority depends upon their respective mini ranks. It Ranges From eighty percent to fifty-five percent"
Liyu’s gaze twitched slightly. That low...?
That certainly didn’t sound promising. Still... since it wasn’t below fifty percent, it meant he was relatively safe against SS-Rank clones. The system confirmed his thoughts a few moments later: "SS-Rank clones still remain relatively within the Host’s control.
However... SSS-Rank clones are different. They pose a genuine level of danger to the Host, although not one that is completely impossible to manage. Depending on their mini rank, the Host’s authority over SSS-Rank clones ranges from ten percent... all the way down to only zero point five percent."
Liyu couldn’t help but start twitching... his eyes twitched, his mouth twitched, and even his entire body twitched. Zero point five percent... wasn’t that basically the same as saying little to no control? Liyu sighed.
After several minutes of explanation from the system, he finally understood the gist of everything. Apparently, his control over EX-Rank clones was completely nonexistent, so he shouldn’t even dream about creating one.
Maybe only after he managed to push his own rank to High SSS... or even better, the Absolute Mini Rank of SSS, should he even consider attempting something that dangerous.
Everything came down to one thing: increasing his own rank as a being. If he managed to do that, then his authority would naturally grow alongside him, and with greater authority came greater control over his clones. Liyu sighed once again. Why did there always have to be so many risks?
Couldn’t there ever just be a reward without an even greater danger accompanying it?
After a while, Liyu opened his eyes once more, ready to focus on his two newly acquired clones. The one wearing the dark attire stepped forward. His aura and presence were sharp, calm, and calculating.
He placed a hand over his chest before giving a respectful bow: "Dead eye at your beck and call. Tell me... who do you need dead? Give me the target... and I will execute them for you... Employer."
Liyu raised an eyebrow. Did he just call me employer? "Hey, Sys... what’s up with this guy?" He asked curiously. "Host, you will understand after going through the Clone Archive.
Apparently, from his title alone, you can already tell that he is a hitman... in other words, a killer. And since he has become your clone... what exactly do hitmen do?"
Liyu’s eyes lit up slightly as understanding finally dawned on him. Hitmen accepted contracts from their employers to eliminate designated targets, and since this clone carried the title Perfect Hitman, then surely he was an exceptional assassin.
More importantly... because of his Absolute Obedience personality, he probably viewed Liyu as his absolute employer, meaning he would faithfully carry out every single order given to him without question. Liyu’s eyes shone with satisfaction; this was actually a very good personality to have... respectful, professional, elite.
Certainly better than his first clone, who was overly loyal and somehow still managed to offend him every now and then. Filled with anticipation, Liyu couldn’t help but turn toward the second clone he had created. This one looked at him differently; he simply stood there, staring at him with something that almost resembled a glare.
Then... the clone slowly sat down and let out a long sigh before speaking in a tone filled with endless grievance: "Why... why have you done this to me...?" Liyu raised an eyebrow. What was he talking about? Fortunately, he wasn’t left confused for long.
The clone, who looked as though he was lamenting his very existence, continued speaking. Curiously enough, despite sounding miserable, he didn’t actually look like he was in pain... perhaps... he was simply too lazy to even bother making a painful expression.
"Why have you done this to me...?" He stared at his own hands before slowly shaking his head. "For several thousand years I cultivated... I finally reached the Heavenly Emperor Realm. I was only a few thousand years away from comprehending the Dao and stepping into the Dao Realm."
"And yet... here I am... back as a weak mortal." The clone sighed deeply once more; the mere thought of it seemed to fill him with endless regret. Losing hundreds of thousands of years of hard work would surely make almost anyone explode in rage. Yet... that wasn’t what this clone was lamenting at all."
"Rather... he was lamenting the fact that he had cultivated in the first place. "If my master hadn’t tricked me into joining the Rumbling Island Sect all those years ago... then I never would have cultivated. I would’ve died much earlier... sleeping forever. And after spending countless years cultivating... I finally died."
"Killed by numerous Dao Beings who viewed me as a threat. I was actually happy back then. Finally... I could sleep for as long as I wanted. But then... you just had to ruin everything. You summoned me back into the world of the living. My cultivation is gone. My realm is gone. And now I’m no different from a mere Spiritual Apprentice."
He sighed once more, dragging a hand slowly across his face: "Too troublesome..." Listening to the clone ramble on and on, Liyu couldn’t help but feel as though he had just acquired a clone that would become an enormous headache in the future.
Without wasting another second, he opened the system interface before accessing the Clone Archive, which had now reached Level Two. He needed to read every piece of information available about this lazy version of himself. He absolutely needed to know this guy’s history.
For some reason... he was already getting a very bad feeling about this unbelievably lazy clone of his. Hopefully... he wouldn’t turn out to be another King Rayden. Liyu opened the Clone Archive and began reading the newly unlocked information.
Yet... the very moment his eyes landed on the first few words of the clone’s profile... he couldn’t help but become completely stunned.
