Chapter 465 - 464: Death Mist
The three Netherwater Sharks swam obediently at the front. The rest of the sharks, however, ignored his commands and continued to circle, preparing to attack.
"They’re listening to your commands?"
Ren Liangchen and the others were stunned, staring at the three Netherwater Sharks. They couldn’t quite process what had just happened. It was simply unbelievable—in the blink of an eye, Yi Tianyun had brought them under control. ’Is he a Beast Tamer?’
Without a word of explanation, Yi Tianyun took out several ropes and looped them around the sharks. Once they were secured, he commanded, "Go!"
The three Netherwater Sharks immediately obeyed, dragging the raft forward at an incredible speed—far faster than they had been paddling by hand. In an instant, they caught up to Liu Long’s group and easily overtook them.
"Take your time paddling, you bunch of idiots!" Yi Tianyun jeered as they shot past. He then directed the Netherwater Sharks to continue their frantic pace. As natives of this place, they cut through the leaden Netherwater with ease, pulling the raft forward.
After being overtaken, the swarm of Netherwater Sharks lost Yi Tianyun as a target and immediately shifted its attention to Liu Long and his men. The sharks lunged toward them, making them scream in terror.
"Faster, paddle faster!" Liu Long yelled, seeing the Netherwater Sharks frantically lunging toward them. The rest of his team began shouting as well.
They were dumbfounded and could only paddle forward with all their might. Their earlier taunts now felt like a stinging slap across their own faces, leaving an indescribable taste in their mouths. Now it was their turn to flee for their lives, while over on Yi Tianyun’s raft, the group cruised along comfortably, at a speed far greater than their own.
’Is that kid a Beast Tamer? What... what in the world is going on?’ Liu Long’s mind was in turmoil. He had thought Ren Liangchen was the one who got the short end of the stick, saddled with a good-for-nothing, but it turned out his own group had suffered the real loss!
The situation had completely reversed in an instant. Yi Tianyun’s group now held a massive advantage, effortlessly leaving them behind to become food for the Netherwater Sharks.
The members of Yi Tianyun’s own group still hadn’t recovered from their shock. They stared at him, sizing him up anew, at a complete loss for words. Looking back and forth between Yi Tianyun and the Netherwater Sharks pulling the raft, they all suspected they were seeing things.
"What is it?" Yi Tianyun asked, a faint smile playing on his lips as he saw their stunned expressions.
Yi Tianyun understood their shock. Netherwater Sharks were notoriously difficult to tame, yet he had done so in an instant. Who wouldn’t be astonished?
"Yi, are you a Beast Tamer?" Ren Liangchen finally asked after a long moment.
"You could say that," Yi Tianyun replied after a moment’s thought. ’In theory, I’m at the level of a Beast Tamer, but I’m far more powerful. No ordinary Beast Tamer could have tamed three Netherwater Sharks in such a short time.’
"So, you didn’t kill that Netherwater Shark earlier because you wanted to tame them?" Leng Hu and the others now recalled how Yi Tianyun hadn’t killed the shark before. They had assumed he hadn’t eaten and was too weak to exert any strength.
"That’s right. If I had injured them, how could they pull the raft for us?" Yi Tianyun replied with a faint smile.
"Yi, that wasn’t very nice of you. You should have told us sooner that you’re a Beast Tamer! I thought you were scared stiff and was worried to death!" Yang Zhiwen said, patting his chest. He had truly been scared out of his wits just now. With so many Netherwater Sharks and someone apparently frozen in fear beside him not paddling, how could he not have been terrified?
"If I had told you, would you have believed me?" Yi Tianyun said with a smile.
"Well... I admit I probably wouldn’t have believed you..."
The three of them exchanged glances. It was truly hard to believe. Even a Beast Tamer shouldn’t have been able to tame those Netherwater Sharks so quickly. Of course, they had rarely seen Beast Tamers, but common sense dictated that taming a Netherwater Shark in such a dangerous place would require a considerable amount of time.
It might be fine if it were safer, but in such a dangerous situation, choosing to tame a Netherwater Shark was clearly not worth the risk. It was simply too dangerous. Unless one could tame it in the blink of an eye, no one would willingly stop and try.
"Well, there you have it," Yi Tianyun said with a smile. "Since you were all willing to bring me along, I definitely had to help out. Otherwise, I’d have felt rather guilty."
"We misjudged you earlier. We really thought you were scared stiff, but it turns out you had it all under control." Yang Zhiwen let out a laugh, then said apologetically, "I hope you don’t mind. It’s a good thing I didn’t say anything too harsh."
"Even if you had said something harsh, I wouldn’t mind. The situation was so urgent, it’s only natural you’d react that way." Yi Tianyun, of course, didn’t mind. He would have been just as anxious in their position.
"Regardless, we’re truly fortunate you joined us. Look! We’ve left Liu Long and his group so far behind they can’t possibly catch up!" Yang Zhiwen laughed heartily, his voice full of glee. After the insults they had endured earlier, seeing Liu Long’s group left far behind was incredibly satisfying.
As they continued forward, they soon saw the shore. It seemed this was just one stretch of the Nether River; if it had gone on and on, that would have been a real problem.
"Look, we’re about to reach the shore!" they exclaimed, overjoyed. Even with the Netherwater Sharks pulling them, they were still eager to get ashore. They would only feel at ease once they were back on solid ground.
If they could fly, it wouldn’t be an issue, but they couldn’t. Being on land was the only way they would feel safe.
However, the shore was a vast expanse of gray, shrouded in what looked like a layer of fog. It was impossible to see clearly what lay within. Even using Spiritual Sense, they couldn’t easily probe deep into it, which undoubtedly meant greater difficulty ahead.
As expected, the road to the Netherworld was not an easy one. The deeper they went, the more difficult it became.
"This should be the Death Fog," Ren Liangchen explained as he gazed at it. "It gathers every so often. We can only go deeper after it disperses. From the looks of it, we won’t be able to enter for now."
Yi Tianyun nodded. Of course he knew about this place; it was marked in detail on his Netherworld Passage Map. He even knew the correct path to take, but with the dense layers of fog, even a map was of no use. Therefore, after going ashore, they could only wait at the edge for the fog to disperse. They didn’t dare enter otherwise.
Taking a wrong turn in there meant certain death. And being unable to find your way back out—that would be a true nightmare.
’If Ming Chen and his group came this way, it would have been relatively easy for them... but did they?’ Yi Tianyun frowned. If they were exiting from here, it would be rather troublesome.
However, he had a feeling they hadn’t come out this way. Although this path was difficult, it wasn’t much of a challenge for someone with a high cultivation level. He suspected they hadn’t exited here, but from somewhere else entirely!
