Chapter 861

“Hello. Can I help you with something?” Anton asked the young man.

He had never liked the fat merchant’s children. They had looked down on him at the beginning of the journey because they thought he was a commoner, even though they had no right to act so arrogantly. Their family was not even a noble house, merely a wealthy merchant family. The disdainful looks they had given him while he was speaking to their father had made their opinions obvious.

At least the merchant himself was polite and friendly, which was unsurprising considering his success. People who constantly looked down on others rarely became successful businessmen, especially when starting from nothing.

While speaking with their father, Anton had briefly entertained the idea of befriending the merchant’s children because of the man’s kindness. However, after seeing their expressions, he immediately distanced himself from them and treated them as nothing more than strangers he happened to pass on the street.

What disgusted Anton slightly was that once they learned he was an important person, they tried to approach him. However, they quickly stopped because of the company he kept—Paul, Eric, and the other young men and women from the Bottom Section of the ship.

“I’m just surprised to see you finally not being accompanied by those leeches from the Bottom. I thought they would keep scamming you until the journey ended,” the boy said.

Anton’s blood began to boil. Not only had the boy insulted his friends simply because they were commoners, but the remark made little sense. After all, Renor and his family were commoners as well, despite being wealthy merchants. Yet the boy was acting as though Anton were foolish enough to be deceived by them.

“Boy, do you realize that I reached the rank of Supreme Wizard at the age of eighteen, something extremely rare in Ormunda? Not only that, but my contributions during the war against the undead coalition were enormous. With my status, I could do many questionable things, and the ship would simply look the other way. Yet you dare to disrespect me? Get out of my sight, or you will learn the full extent of my disdain,” Anton said softly.

Renor immediately turned pale and began sweating. He looked as though he wanted to say something, probably an apology, but when Anton returned to his book, the boy hurriedly left.

Renor should have been grateful that Anton had not done anything to him.

As a matter of fact, ever since Anton had transmigrated to this world, he could not think of a single instance in which he had intentionally harmed another person. After thinking about it for a few minutes, he realized that he had never actually killed a human being.

Killing countless undead and monsters did not count. Even those villagers he had killed were werewolves who had wanted to murder him and his family when they first fled Mendi.

Anton decided that it was a good thing he was not some bloodthirsty Korean protagonist from a cheesy web novel. He liked the fact that he still felt he possessed the moral high ground, at least when it came to killing. He knew that might change one day, but for now, he was proud that he could still consider his hands as clean as a baby’s.

In truth, Anton might already have killed some humans and simply failed to notice or remember it. However, the thought quickly left his mind, and he returned to reading web novels through the internet access provided by his Diablo System.

Anton continued reading while occasionally purchasing more coffee and pastries from the café to justify occupying a table for such a long time.

After a while, he was interrupted again. This time, it was the fat merchant he had spoken to at the beginning of the journey. His son accompanied him.

Anton merely raised an eyebrow, silently asking why they had come.

“Sir Sunder, I came here to apologize for my son’s behavior. He told me everything, and it was entirely his fault,” the merchant said, looking nervous.

Anton had no desire to concern himself with such a trivial matter. He simply told the man that he accepted the apology but still had no interest in associating with his children.

Thankfully, the merchant merely nodded and left. Hopefully, that would be the end of it.

Anton returned to reading, but about an hour later, someone interrupted him once again.

This time, it was Paul and Eric.

They were wearing the fine suits they had purchased together with Anton, allowing them to move freely through the Noble Section without encountering any problems.

“Anton, we’ve been knocking on your door for several minutes! We were even warned off by some of the crew!” Eric complained.

“You should have known that if I didn’t answer immediately, I wasn’t there.”

Eric merely harrumphed before heading to the counter to order food and drinks, making Anton smile wryly.

Paul also ordered pastries and beverages, and the two immediately began devouring everything they purchased before ordering even more.

Anton knew that whenever they were in the Noble Section, they never hesitated to buy as much food as they wanted because they had learned that the Ormundan government would cover the bill. They only restrained themselves in the Middle Section, where anything they purchased would come directly out of Anton’s pocket.

While they ate, Anton informed them that in a couple of days, he would become extremely busy practicing magic in his room and would no longer be able to wander around the ship with them as often as before.

He could still spend a few hours with them each day, but when the time came, he would send them a message through a raven summon instead, asking whether they wanted to accompany him during his breaks.

The Diablo II ladder season would begin in two days, and most of his time would be spent leveling his characters.

“Why would you keep practicing magic? Once we reach Izmorta and successfully join a magical organization, you’ll have to forget all of it anyway,” Paul asked.

Not wanting to invent a complicated lie to explain his Diablo System, Anton simply shrugged.

Instead, feeling that he had not exercised in quite some time, he suggested that they go swimming together in the large pool.

Since it was already very late, only a handful of people occupied the swimming pool, which pleased Anton. He disliked swimming when the pool was crowded. At the very least, thanks to the wizards responsible for maintaining it, the water was always pristine.

The three of them spent the next couple of hours playing in the water.

Because of the immense physical stats Anton had gained from completing three Diablo II ladder seasons, Paul and Eric had absolutely no chance of beating him in any swimming race they attempted.

After they became tired and took a short break, Anton told them about his encounter with the blue whales and pink dolphins during his voyage from Rendindura to the Gale Continent aboard the Amelia.

He explained that after giving the whales and dolphins mana water—a magical liquid he could conjure that benefited living creatures—the sea animals had gifted him the Pearl of the Ocean, along with several treasure chests recovered from the bottom of the sea.

Paul and Eric both looked impressed by the story.

Anton could tell they believed him. There was no reason for him to fabricate such a strange tale.

He showed them the pearl and explained its effects. He also gave them samples of mana water. After drinking it, both young men agreed that it was exceptionally delicious and made them feel as though all their fatigue had vanished.
