Chapter 862

Anton was in his room, waiting for the Diablo II ladder season to start. According to the schedule, it would begin in three hours unless there were any delays. He had already informed Paul and Eric that he would be busy for the next few days, and possibly even a few weeks. If he wanted to have some fun in either the Noble Section or the Middle Section of the ship, he would simply send them a message through a summon.

At the very least, Paul and Eric would not need to worry about their spending funds. Anton knew that they had managed to sell some of the cantrip spell books he had given them as compensation for being his guides. Technically, the job was meaningless since Anton did not actually need a guide, but paying someone purely for their companionship felt strange to him. To avoid making his friendship with Paul and Eric awkward, Anton never bothered with formal agreements or contracts. They simply spent their time on the ship together and enjoyed themselves, allowing things to naturally progress.

They wanted to have fun while aboard Melinda because every youth there understood that once they reached Izmorta and successfully joined a magical organization, hard work would follow soon after. They believed they would no longer have much time to enjoy themselves because they would need to focus on climbing the ranks within their respective organizations.

What made the youths aboard Melinda excited was that their families had allowed them to do whatever they wanted on the ship, as long as they did not cause trouble or waste their coins.

Anton was slightly impressed by the young people he had become acquainted with. From what he had observed, they knew how to control themselves. Even though they had been given freedom by their families, they still exercised restraint. He could imagine that if something similar had happened with the youths from Earth, most of them would have immediately fallen into an extremely hedonistic lifestyle.

Still, Anton believed that most of the young people genuinely wanted to apply to become members of one of the magical organizations in Izmorta. The truth was that no one really knew what could disqualify them, but many of them believed that damaging their bodies through excessive consumption of harmful substances could affect their chances. No one wanted to risk that.

Anton suddenly wondered if his spells could cure addiction. Since he still had time before the ladder season started, he decided to test it.

He left his room, called over one of the crew members, and asked if they knew of anyone addicted to illegal substances or alcohol. Anton should not have been surprised when the crew member told him that no one aboard the ship suffered from such problems. The healers on board were capable of curing such conditions.

Anton simply shook his head and returned to his room. Sometimes, he forgot that magic could accomplish things that no Earthling could even imagine. Curing addiction would have been considered a major breakthrough on Earth and could have solved countless problems, but in this magical world, it could be dealt with by simply casting a spell.

Because of that, Anton believed that his Paladin Aura skills might also be capable of curing addictions.

Soon, the Diablo II ladder season began.

Anton entered his Diablo System and created a game. A minute later, his father and sister joined.

“Should we allow others to enter our game?” Anders asked Anton.

“If we want to level up as quickly as possible, we should,” Anton replied. “Unlike our normal multiplayer sessions, the difficulty of the game will be based on the number of players rather than the maximum difficulty that is always active during our usual gameplay. Because of that, if there are only the three of us, the experience and loot will be reduced since the difficulty will only be adjusted for three players.”

Anton had also learned from his Diablo System that once they entered the game and spoke, other players would be able to hear them as if they were communicating through a microphone. This meant they could talk with other players from Earth.

That was what excited Anders and Anna the most, since the session would allow them to interact with Earthlings.

The three of them had already discussed what kind of background story they would use when interacting with other players. Anton suggested telling others that they came from a country so poor that it had only recently gained access to the internet. That would explain why Anders and Anna were unfamiliar with things that others considered common knowledge.

They would also say that they had only recently started learning English, which was why they would be more talkative. It would make it seem as though they were simply practicing the language.

In reality, the language they spoke was still the common language of their own world. Anton’s Diablo System would simply translate everything into English in real time. Anton considered this translation ability one of the system’s most impressive features.

Anders chose to play as a Paladin since he was already familiar with the class, while Anna created a Sorceress. Since Anton did not particularly care which character he played, he chose a Warlock. He still preferred caster classes.

Soon, other gamers joined them. Once the party was full, the game began.

Anders and Anna immediately started chatting with the other players. They still maintained the story that the three of them were a family. Anders was the father, while Anton and Anna were his children. This seemed to impress the others because it was no longer common for families to play computer games together.

They played for five hours straight, and Anton believed that both his father and sister greatly enjoyed the experience. Gamers were a strange group. The internet naturally had its share of unpleasant people, but when the players they were with discovered that Anders and Anna were “newbies,” everyone became extremely helpful.

This became even more apparent when they realized that every piece of advice they gave was absorbed by Anders and Anna like sponges.

Thankfully, the two female gamers at the party took Anna under their care. When the others heard Anna’s voice, they realized that she was a young teenage girl, and she openly admitted that she was fourteen years old. The female gamers immediately began giving Anna advice about proper gamer etiquette and warning her about what to watch out for to avoid “pervs.”

The girls sounded excited when Anders thanked them. Anton had to admit that his father’s deep, masculine voice was probably very attractive to other women.

One of the more daring gamers asked Anders his age, and Anton’s father admitted that he was forty-eight. The others commented that Anders sounded much younger, and Anders simply laughed, causing the girls to squeal.

Anton laughed as well because he knew his father was probably both surprised and mildly embarrassed by the gamers’ reactions.

Thankfully, the group remained respectful in their conversations after learning that a teenage girl was playing with them.

After around five hours, Anders told everyone that he needed to leave because he still had work to finish. Anna also thanked everyone and said that she needed to leave as well because she had schoolwork.

Once Anders and Anna left the game, Anton created a new password-protected game. Soon after, both of them joined again.

They talked about their experience playing with gamers from the dimension where the movies originated. Anna excitedly told Anton that she liked the Earthlings and repeatedly said that they were all kind.

Anton simply laughed and warned her that she still needed to be careful if she decided to enter games and play with others by herself.
