Chapter 1517: Cause of Death Unknown
Liu Anping fell to his death, a scene that shocked Ye Fan, Zhang Lu, and Li Tong to varying degrees.
Li Tong immediately contacted her companions to seal off the scene.
Zhang Lu dashed towards the stairs like a madwoman, heading straight for Liu Anping’s room.
The apartment is an old-style building with no elevator, six floors in total, and Liu Anping’s room is on the sixth floor.
Ye Fan stood still, while Zhang Lu and Li Tong each busied themselves. A question popped into his mind: Was Liu Anping murdered or was it suicide?
Considering the current situation, the possibility of murder is quite high. Liu Anping wouldn’t commit suicide.
Everything seems too coincidental.
"It seems our trip to the research institute has long been tracked. The surveillance footage we took away has flaws. The enemy understands this well and might have silenced Liu Anping before we could get anything from him. This seems highly probable," Ye Fan pondered silently.
Luckily, he had already decided to capture Liu Anping immediately to find some clues. Had he chosen to monitor him, the problem would be much bigger; not even knowing how Liu Anping died.
At the very least, they saw the scene of Liu Anping’s death.
It’s predictable; the enemy wants them to see this.
Maybe the enemy is watching this scene from somewhere nearby?
Ye Fan handed over the scene to Li Tong and walked into the staircase.
Inside Liu Anping’s room, Ye Fan and Zhang Lu observed everything around them.
"There is a suicide note in the computer on the desk. I’ve read it. It roughly says he’s unfilial, can’t serve his old father, did wrong things, and has no face to live, hence he’s committing suicide," Zhang Lu, who arrived earlier than Ye Fan, reported her findings.
"There’s another unusual aspect: the room is too clean. A single, idle man couldn’t possibly keep a room this tidy. It’s very strange," Ye Fan murmured.
"This is indeed suspicious," Zhang Lu muttered.
"Did you find any suspicious person?" Ye Fan asked.
"No, if there’s a murderer, they couldn’t escape. Moreover, the residents here are all familiar. The murderer couldn’t be hiding among them. An unfamiliar person would trigger alert among these people, and no stranger could live here except staff families of the research institute," Zhang Lu said confidently.
This building is special, only allowing people from the research institute or affiliated families to reside.
Others couldn’t live here; any visiting stranger must register.
There is no suspicious murderer. From the room’s situation, the possibility of murder is low, making Zhang Lu extremely angry. Killing right under their noses—the enemy’s arrogance is infuriating.
"Don’t move anything in the room; keep it as is," Ye Fan instructed, "We can only learn more when the autopsy report, resident investigation, and surveillance checks are done. We can’t do anything now but wait."
How Liu Anping died is unknown, and there is no suspect. We can only wait for other examination results to judge.
Zhao Gongming arrived, comforting residents and investigating testimonies—all handed over to Zhao Gongming.
Zhao Gongming understood the situation in detail, checked every room on each floor, and found nothing.
"There’s no suspicious circumstance nor suspicious person," Zhao Gongming reported to a solemn-looking Ye Fan and Zhang Lu.
His report indicated that everyone inside the building is fine; no suspicious person at all.
"Was the surveillance damaged?" Ye Fan asked.
"It’s intact. Since this is a residence, only the entrance is monitored; other areas aren’t," Zhao Gongming disclosed everything he knew.
He now realized the severity: Ye Fan and the team just visited the research institute, took the surveillance footage, and someone died immediately. Does this suggest the footage has issues?
Did it lead to unfavorable findings about Liu Anping, causing such a tragedy?
From his understanding, Liu Anping wasn’t foolish enough to commit suicide.
So, if it’s murder, wouldn’t the problem be bigger?
"Do you know Liu Anping well?" Ye Fan asked.
"Fairly well, watched him grow from a child. Sadly, he didn’t turn out well, being idle and careless, causing worries. Oftentimes fighting and causing trouble, we don’t mind because Liu Anping’s father is a research institute hero and everyone accommodates him. If he bullies someone’s child, they turn a blind eye," Zhao Gongming explained.
"Do you think he would commit suicide?" Zhang Lu asked urgently.
"Impossible, absolutely impossible. Liu Anping valued his life too much to commit suicide," Zhao Gongming shook his head defiantly.
"Lately, who has he been associating with?" Ye Fan asked calmly.
"A woman, Liu Anping flaunted her as his girlfriend, named Hao Min," Zhao Gongming, responsible as the captain of security, knew this. He understood many people at the research institute, especially Liu Qianjin’s treasured son Liu Anping, notorious for his bad reputation.
At this moment, an elderly man, with white hair and glasses, approached.
The nearly fifty-year-old man is Liu Anping’s father, Liu Qianjin.
A pioneer and veteran at the research institute.
"Zhao, where is my son’s body? His body?" Liu Qianjin suppressed overwhelming grief, demanding from Zhao Gongming loudly.
News of Liu Anping’s death spread quickly across the research institute, alarming everyone.
Liu Qianjin naturally heard.
When he arrived at the scene, Li Tong had already taken Liu Anping’s body away to minimize impact. Moreover, Liu Anping’s cause of death requires forensic testing.
So, this elderly, bereaved father hadn’t seen his son’s body.
"Vice President Liu," Zhao Gongming hurriedly approached, supporting Liu Qianjin: "Please take care of yourself, you must be strong."
"Don’t give me that! Where’s my son’s body?" Liu Qianjin pressed.
"Vice President Liu, don’t be angry. Let’s discuss it here," Zhang Lu warmly invited.
