Ye Fan, Zhang Lu, and Li Tong left the research institute. There was no need for a deep understanding as everything was unclear; they could only learn more step by step.

In the car, Ye Fan casually asked, "What were the members of the action group doing before?"

"I’ve been the group leader for three years. The entire action group, consisting of twenty-seven people, has always been a unified team, targeting external spy network personnel with significant results. The matter of the treasure is one of the achievements under my responsibility," Li Tong explained.

As the former leader and current deputy leader of the action group, naturally, Li Tong was the most authoritative spokesperson.

"Before you became the group leader?" Ye Fan continued to ask.

"The nature of the work hasn’t changed; they’ve always been veterans dealing with spy network personnel. The action group was established eight years ago. After the previous leader was killed, I took over as the leader, and nothing has changed since then," Li Tong recounted in detail. "All members of the action group are experienced veterans. It’s always been twenty-seven people. Three years ago, I replaced the fallen leader, and there haven’t been any personnel changes or new members added."

"Do you suspect there’s a problem within the action group?" Zhang Lu said dumbfoundedly, "That can’t be possible, can it?"

"Nothing is impossible. Calculating it this way, the action group has been in existence for eight years. Except for one fallen leader and Li Tong as the new leader, there have been no changes. We need to understand that the research institute has been conducting secret research for nearly twenty years. The importance of this scientific achievement is self-evident. If the enemy wants to obtain the research results, they definitely won’t do it unprepared; they would have laid the groundwork well in advance, just waiting for the research results to be completed to try and obtain them. It’s obvious logic," Ye Fan stated calmly.

"The group leader’s analysis is spot on," Li Tong said softly. "At that time, assigning the action group to execute this mission was based on the united front and significant achievements in combating spy network personnel over these years, something others couldn’t match. That’s why we were all put into this work."

"If there’s really a problem, then how do we investigate? I believe everyone knows each other well and the organization has detailed background information on all of them; there shouldn’t be any issues," Zhang Lu said calmly. "If there really was a problem, it would be terrifying, as the enemy would have infiltrated very deeply."

Currently, the action group had new joiners: Ye Fan, Zhang Lu, Yang Shu, Shen Tingting, Zhang Kui, Gao Qiang, and Qian Weiguo.

Ye Fan was highly familiar with Zhang Lu and the others; they had no issues, but it was the first collaboration with the others, making it difficult to judge.

If the enemy had indeed been planning for many years, precautions had to be taken.

"Any investigation into the relevant personnel of the action group won’t show any issues; I’m certain of that," Li Tong said with confidence.

"I believe that point. That’s precisely why we need to make other arrangements," Ye Fan said, appearing thoughtful.

"What arrangements?" Li Tong inquired.

"I’ll have Shen Yaqing and Qiu Wen secretly monitor everyone in the action group," Ye Fan had decided.

"Who are they?" Li Tong asked, puzzled.

Zhang Lu smiled and said, "They’re very capable people. You don’t need to know more, you wouldn’t recognize them even if I told you."

"Remember to keep this arrangement confidential. Only the three of us should know, not a single extra person," Ye Fan stated.

"We understand," Zhang Lu and Li Tong replied in unison.

Following Ye Fan’s instructions, Shen Yaqing and Qiu Wen had already started working, finding locations near the action group to install equipment. The top manager in charge of this event, Zhang Jiefang, cooperated without hesitation with Ye Fan’s arrangement.

With any of Ye Fan’s arrangements, Zhang Jiefang wouldn’t say a word more, as it had been promised long ago.

No matter how difficult the matter, Zhang Jiefang would comply, let alone a minor issue like this.

Returning to the action group, everyone delved into their work.

They began reviewing nearly a month’s worth of surveillance footage brought back from the research institute.

The footage documented a month’s activities at the research institute; it would be excellent to find some clues from it.

Since there were activities within the research institute, there would inevitably be some oversight recorded.

Though it was akin to searching for a needle in a haystack and involved a huge workload, it had to be done.

Five hours later, Yang Yan made a discovery.

As a veteran of the action group, Yang Yan found a segment in the footage had been deleted and immediately informed the others.

"Do your best to recover this segment of footage as quickly as possible," Li Tong instructed.

Niu Ben and Yang Yan worked together to restore the deleted footage.

The others continued reviewing the surveillance footage, searching for other possible clues.

Soon, the deleted footage was restored.

On the screen, a young man was seen climbing in through a window, entering an office, and then stealing data from a computer in the office.

"This office belongs to Liu Qianjin, right? Who is this young man? Does anyone recognize him?" Ye Fan asked, having a general understanding of the research institute’s layout but not knowing most of the personnel given the vast number.

"Liu Anping, Liu Qianjin’s son," Li Tong revealed the young man’s identity.

As Ye Fan suspected, the leaked research results pointed to suspects Li Dingguo and Liu Qianjin. If these two had no issues, then those around them were highly likely to.

This was the initial judgment and guess, but it confirmed Ye Fan’s prediction.

Other members of the action group looked at Ye Fan differently, showing admiration for his initial guess.

"Should we monitor Liu Anping, or immediately arrest him?" Zhang Lu asked.

It was a tricky decision. Monitoring could yield further insights, but immediate arrest would cut off the opportunity to uncover more.

"Arrest immediately; getting some clues is better than none. If we monitor and it’s too late, the enemy might have already realized Liu Anping is exposed. Delaying might only lead us to a corpse," Ye Fan analyzed.

With no time to waste, Ye Fan, Zhang Lu, and Li Tong set off immediately for Liu Anping’s residence.

In front of an apartment complex, the trio had just arrived by car.

Suddenly, from the upper floors of the apartment, a body fell from a height, landing with a thud on the concrete ground.

The deceased was Liu Anping.
