Chapter 1445: Following the Trail to the Source
Namie was unusually angry about this setback. Losing six of her ten top fighters at once left her lacking extremely powerful assistants in subsequent actions. Besides the fury, she felt a deep sense of powerlessness.
The four subordinates did their respective duties and did not disturb Namie, but the shock and frustration in their hearts were unavoidable. Losing six companions just like that was unspeakably distressing.
"This operation was incredibly difficult, with various forces intermingled and clashing fiercely. A single mistake could lead to total annihilation, so extreme caution is necessary in the next plan."
"Our six sisters are gone just like that, which shows the auction house’s security forces shouldn’t be underestimated."
"After Asai’s death, we suffered another tremendous loss."
"Asai died at the hands of Ye Fan, which is understandable; we know how formidable Ye Fan is. But the fact that six sisters died so unclearly is deeply painful."
Namie’s four female subordinates gathered together and whispered among themselves. They were all mighty opponents, and naturally harbored hatred for the successive losses. Besides resenting their enemies, they also heightened their own vigilance.
"There was trouble on my end." Namie got through to Nagano Yoko’s phone, speaking with an unwilling tone.
At that moment, Namie sat on the sofa, poured herself a glass of wine, revealing a sullen expression while sipping and contemplating.
"What happened?" Nagano Yoko hurriedly asked before Namie could finish speaking, "Where did the problem occur?"
"Ji Jie’s betrayal was all fake," Namie said bitterly. "The auction house was a trap. After my people entered, I lost contact with them. The place where the Ancient Painting was hidden mocked us with four words."
"How could this be?" Nagano Yoko’s breath halted, and her anger immediately surged, saying furiously, "That bastard Ji Jie hid so well, hesitating multiple times, and unexpectedly led us into a trap."
She was furious, her murderous intent fluctuating. This setback was a major blow, not only costing a massive fortune but also the loss of six of her top fighters, which was an enormous price to pay.
"None of my six subordinates escaped; I believe they all sacrificed themselves." Namie said powerlessly, "Such a big incident happened, I am very angry. I have no idea who the six encountered or what kind of ambush awaited them."
"To render six experts helpless, the forces inside the auction house must have been very strong, beyond our expectations," Nagano Yoko said. "This shows how formidable and targeted the enemy is; we must be extremely cautious."
"One thing is very strange; I waited outside the auction house for a long time, yet no one came to trouble me. After I drove away, no one followed," Namie still didn’t quite understand this point.
"When something is unusual, there’s definitely a problem," Nagano Yoko said gravely. "Either someone placed a tracking device on your car to find your hiding place and catch everything in one sweep, or there are other unknown secrets."
"Impossible, I’ve been in the car all along, and nothing outside escapes my eyes. There’s no way someone could do such a thing under my nose," Namie replied with utmost confidence.
Just as she finished speaking, Namie’s expression turned extremely serious, and the phone in her hand almost slipped to the ground.
The wine glass in her other hand became unsteady, spilling the wine inside.
"How is it you? How did you get in? How did you know I was here?" Namie opened her eyes wide in astonishment, staring incredulously at the man who appeared before her, mouth agape wide enough to fit a fist.
Namie was utterly shocked, her face blank, and her demeanor extremely discomposed, showing signs of utter stupor.
She couldn’t imagine such a change would occur. The man in front of her was simply a nightmare.
There were too many things she couldn’t understand. Under such circumstances, how could Namie remain calm?
The man who almost scared Namie to death was none other than Ye Fan.
Ye Fan remained silent, while Nagano Yoko’s urgent voice came through, asking, "What happened again?"
"Ye Fan is here; take care of yourself," Namie said as if leaving a last word before ending the call with Nagano Yoko. Saying more might reveal clues, so it’s better to say less.
The mere mention of Ye Fan’s name exposed many things.
Namie believed Nagano Yoko would understand the seriousness of the situation.
"You have a lot of questions in your heart, I can see. But I’m not obliged to answer your doubts." Ye Fan smiled lightly and then walked forward of his own accord, sitting on a sofa three meters away from Namie, pouring himself a glass of wine and praising, "Not bad, high grade, tastes even better."
Namie was poised to strike, like a leopard hidden in the grass targeting a gazelle, ready to lash out at any moment.
Ye Fan was very relaxed; seeing him not making a move, Namie, for the time being, did not dare to act rashly either.
However, her expression was extremely frightening, exuding dangerous air amidst the gloom.
"I get it now; no wonder no one followed me. The problem lies here. It’s all your mischief," Namie suppressed her anger, eager to say, "You set up the trap, making Ji Jie pretend to defect, aiming to catch us all in one go."
"This scheme was made by someone else; it’s none of my business. I just cooperated, finding you, that’s the role I played in this scheme," Ye Fan said indifferently.
"But even so, you played a crucial part in this scheme, an irreplaceable link," Namie gathered herself and said, "I’m curious, how did you track me? Or did you install a tracker on my car?"
The only conceivable way of exposure was that.
"I didn’t track you—your car brought me," Ye Fan said patiently.
"What do you mean?" Namie asked aloud, then her eyes widened, "You were hiding in my car’s trunk?"
"That’s right, you’re not too stupid; you quickly figured out the key," Ye Fan replied nonchalantly.
This stunned Namie, making her wonder, "Is my alertness really that low? Or is the enemy too strong?"
