Chapter 1578 - 1579: The Unexpected Yang Yan
Chapter 1579: The Unexpected Yang Yan
Jin Hua left, and the demeanor of Hunter Cat and Transforming Mouse changed from respectful to stunned.
Previously, Hunter Cat was the commander and decision-maker of all actions; now, he’s become a front-line soldier, destined to act with his head hung low from now on.
One slip-up, and it could mean utter disaster.
The dramatic shift in identity left Hunter Cat momentarily speechless.
Mr. Jin has given him a chance to start over. In front of Jin Hua, there naturally couldn’t be any lack of discipline, otherwise facing the wrath above would be certain death.
Both Hunter Cat and Transforming Mouse cherished this opportunity and were grateful to Mr. Jin.
Without Mr. Jin’s extraordinary mercy, the consequences would be unimaginable.
"From a behind-the-scenes commander to a frontline warrior, this transformation is hard to accept," Hunter Cat bitterly murmured, "at this rate, who can say when we’ll step into a dead-end."
"After successive failures, we’ve caused the organization tremendous losses. Given what we know about the organization, we’re already on the death list; having this opportunity now is already quite fortunate," Transforming Mouse sincerely said, "Our focus now shouldn’t be on blaming others, but on seizing this chance to earn merits and prove our worth."
"Indeed, those without value cannot survive within the organization. Our current value only qualifies us to be frontline soldiers; only when we have sufficient capital is there hope to return to our original positions," Hunter Cat said weakly.
This fact needs to be recognized clearly.
Hunter Cat also let go of the arrogance he shouldn’t possess; recognizing reality is paramount now.
The only choice before Hunter Cat and Transforming Mouse is to fight.
If they survive, there might be a chance to turn the tables.
If they die, then there’s nothing left.
"How is the attitude of Hunter Cat and Transforming Mouse?" Qian Weiwei asked Jin Hua.
"Very respectful, following only Mr. Jin’s orders," Jin Hua replied truthfully.
"They’re sensible; otherwise, they would be on a dead-end path. From this perspective, Hunter Cat has some smarts; he recognizes reality and knows what to do now," Qian Weiwei said, her eyes sharp.
"This time, Mr. Jin took over this mess, the likelihood of achieving the goal isn’t great; the internal contacts Hunter Cat managed have all been sacrificed, which the organization spent immense manpower and resources to develop. It’s impossible for us to grasp enough intelligence," Jin Hua said, dejected.
"I understand this notion too. Hunter Cat doesn’t know that my existence is meant to keep him from letting his guard down, to single-mindedly complete the tasks assigned by the organization," Qian Weiwei said helplessly, "Alas, Hunter Cat is unreliable; the losses are severe. I was entrusted with responsibility in this crisis and have no choice but to bear this heavy burden now."
"Our contacts within the research institute are all insignificant characters; in the action group, not a single piece of information reaches us. We were passive from the start," Jin Hua worriedly said.
"If it weren’t for the lack of manpower, Hunter Cat and Transforming Mouse couldn’t possibly still be alive," Qian Weiwei whispered, "At this point, we can only take a different approach, find exploitable points, and then make a breakthrough to achieve ultimate victory."
"Let’s hope so," Jin Hua said, filled with anticipation.
Inside the research institute, cleaner Hou Cui is a chess piece placed by Qian Weiwei.
Hou Cui, a woman in her thirties with average looks and very dark skin.
Just as Qian Weiwei and Jin Hua lamented powerlessness, at this moment, the internal strength Mr. Jin possesses is far inferior to what Hunter Cat had.
Precisely because of this, Mr. Jin retained Hunter Cat to serve; at many times, Qian Weiwei couldn’t control the movements of the research institute and the action group.
Mr. Jin wants to secretly battle in the shadows, but doesn’t have the strength to do so.
Reality compelled him to step out and compete with Ye Fan.
Hou Cui’s work area was very narrow, specifically responsible for Li Dingguo’s office and the surrounding hygiene.
Because of this, Hou Cui, who had long received Mr. Jin’s orders, made a significant discovery.
The hard drive containing the research institute’s scientific achievements was stored in a cabinet within Li Dingguo’s office, and only Li Dingguo knew the cabinet’s password.
Once the password is obtained, accessing the hard drive is a cinch.
Finding a way to send the hard drive out of the research institute, then all would be accomplished.
Hou Cui kept this crucial information close to her heart, waiting to relay the message to Mr. Jin.
The research institute and action group temporarily calmed down.
Ye Fan, unaware of Mr. Jin’s capabilities, could only wait for Mr. Jin to make a move.
With the enemy inactive, Ye Fan couldn’t take the initiative.
The enemy’s identity and movements were all unclear; time was needed to test this.
Yang Shu, Qian Weiguo, Shen Tingting, and Gao Qiang each had their duties, continuously protecting important targets within the research institute.
All along, no abnormal incidents occurred, and everything remained quite peaceful.
Ye Fan approached Yang Yan, feeling it was necessary to have a talk.
"You’re aware that during this sensitive period, any strangers approaching action group members or strangers nearing the research institute will raise our alert and investigation, and Chang Fei is one of our investigative targets," Ye Fan straightforwardly said.
"I understand the organization’s discipline; there’s no need to worry about me. Is there any issue with Chang Fei?" Yang Yan asked, showing her rational side.
"So far, we haven’t uncovered any major issues, but no one can afford to relax," Ye Fan maintained a skeptical attitude.
In such sensitive times, Chang Fei’s fervent pursuit of Yang Yan naturally raises suspicion. Chang Fei’s background is clean, his company withstands scrutiny, but even so, caution is necessary.
"Actually, I’ve had suspicions about Chang Fei. It’s a work habit; however, so far I haven’t yielded any results. The more I interact with Chang Fei, the more mysterious he seems, almost as if he has many secrets, filled with enigmas," Yang Yan chuckled, "Even if you hadn’t approached me today, I would have found an opportunity to discuss this with you. My interaction with Chang Fei will continue; I’ll gauge accordingly."
Pausing for a moment, she continued, "Someone like Chang Fei may seem flawless, but in reality, my woman’s intuition tells me there’s something big off about him."
"I initially intended to persuade you to handle things with care, speak cautiously, but you exceeded my expectations," Ye Fan praised.
"So many things have happened around us, so many colleagues have defected; at a time like this, a stranger suddenly appears pursuing me extensively—I’d be foolish not to suspect him," Yang Yan grinned evilly.
"I won’t waste my words then, deal with it as you see fit, stay safe, and don’t be reckless," Ye Fan advised caringly.
"Rest assured, team leader," Yang Yan confidently replied.
