Chapter 1579 - 1580: Playing Along
Chapter 1580 Playing Along
Now that the Hunting Cat has no chips left, he naturally has to rack his brains.
Breaking through Yang Yan, and from there monitoring the action team’s movements, is what he’s been working on all along.
So Chang Fei sent out another invitation and asked Yang Yan to dinner.
Yang Yan agreed.
In the restaurant, Chang Fei didn’t hide his fondness and feelings for Yang Yan at all, just waiting for Yang Yan to nod her head and say yes.
After a few rounds of drinks and several dishes, Chang Fei started getting straight to the point.
"You know I like you. I’m not asking you to accept my feelings right now, I just hope you’ll give me a chance to pursue you, and also give yourself a chance." Chang Fei was full of anxiety and nervousness, afraid of being rejected, and asked hopefully, "Okay?"
"This?" Yang Yan’s face flushed red. With a bit of reservedness, she said, "Is this you confessing to me? That’s way too sudden, I wasn’t prepared at all."
"You’ve been with me for so long, you must’ve known this day would come. Since you didn’t turn me down, I’ll take it that deep down you’ve already said yes?" Chang Fei asked, full of expectation, his expression serious. "Can I think of it that way?"
He had taken Yang Yan to get to know a lot of things about him, all to lay the prelude for this moment.
Confessing right now wasn’t all that abrupt; he’d planned it that way.
"I need time to think about it. After you’ve met my parents, I’ll give you an answer." Yang Yan spoke very tactfully; she didn’t reject him.
In a way, that was already a yes.
"Okay, okay, okay, I’ll wait." Chang Fei was overjoyed, pleasantly surprised, his eyebrows dancing. He looked exactly like a little kid who’d just gotten his favorite toy.
Then he gazed at Yang Yan with deep affection, speaking softly, "I knew you wouldn’t reject me. You’ve seen how sincere I am, right?"
"We’re not even at the starting line yet, don’t get too happy too soon. If you can’t get past my parents, you won’t be happy for long." Yang Yan scolded him playfully.
"Heh heh, I’ll definitely pass." After giggling foolishly for a bit, Chang Fei finally asked seriously, "By the way, what does Uncle and Auntie like? I’ll bring gifts when we go. For the sake of our bright future, you’ll definitely stand on my side, right?"
"Don’t call them so intimately, things aren’t settled between us yet." Yang Yan pretended to chide him, then spoke more honestly: "Actually, when you meet my parents, just be casual. They can’t wait to marry me off; they’re not going to nitpick."
"Relax, your future man is so outstanding, I’m not afraid of your parents nitpicking." Chang Fei said with great pride.
"Cocky show-off." Yang Yan couldn’t help herself and burst out laughing.
"So that your future in-laws can meet their son-in-law as soon as possible, when are we going to see your parents? Of course, if it’s up to me, the sooner the better." Chang Fei asked impatiently.
"Then tomorrow. You’re not going to tell me you don’t have time, are you?" Yang Yan said, amused.
"I do. I definitely have time." Chang Fei replied arrogantly.
"Look at you, all antsy, like a little kid. Honestly." Yang Yan shot Chang Fei a look, then stood up. "I’m going to the restroom."
Watching Yang Yan disappear from his field of vision, the happiness on Chang Fei’s face shifted into an expression of triumph.
Out of the corner of his eye, he happened to spot Transforming Mouse.
He frowned, then walked over to Transforming Mouse.
"Didn’t I tell you? Don’t come looking for me at a time like this. Even if the sky’s falling, don’t come. You didn’t remember?" Chang Fei was obviously angry.
"If it weren’t for something very urgent, I wouldn’t show up recklessly." Transforming Mouse said nervously, "Mr. Jin sent word, telling us to be ready to move within the next two days. I thought it necessary to remind you, so you don’t drag things out because you’re busy winning over Yang Yan."
"Within the next two days?" After thinking for a moment, Chang Fei finally relaxed and said, "Tomorrow I’m going to meet Yang Yan’s parents. That shouldn’t delay Mr. Jin’s business."
"This..." Transforming Mouse’s expression changed; he didn’t even know how to talk sense into Chang Fei.
Could they afford to defy Mr. Jin’s orders?
Never mind that they were currently under punishment; even before this, Mr. Jin had always had the authority to command them.
Chang Fei’s pushback left Transforming Mouse furious but unable to say anything.
"Yang Yan is about to officially become my girlfriend, you know that. We don’t have many chips left. If we want to be more valuable and earn Mr. Jin’s favor, we have to find another way to maximize our worth. Don’t you understand our situation? Don’t you get how important it is to lock down Yang Yan?" Chang Fei said, a bit displeased.
He had his own considerations and plans. In his mind, once he achieved his long-held goal and his relationship with Yang Yan became intimate enough, he could give her a gift.
A gift that could listen in on the action team’s movements.
That gift was a necklace; Chang Fei had prepared it long ago.
The best time to give this gift was after meeting Yang Yan’s parents, striking while the iron was hot, and putting the necklace on Yang Yan.
Then everything would fall into place.
To realize this goal, Chang Fei didn’t even know how long he’d been preparing. Now that it was within reach, how could he give up so easily?
If Mr. Jin had a concrete plan of action and a specific timetable, that would be different. But he’d only given a rough timeframe, which Hunting Cat couldn’t make sense of and couldn’t accept.
"I understand everything you’re doing, and I know how hard you’re working. You’ve exhausted your mind on Yang Yan for the sake of our status in the organization, hoping we can go back to how things were." Transforming Mouse answered with true understanding, then abruptly changed tack: "But things now are different. Everything’s changed. Nothing is up to us anymore. We have to obey Mr. Jin’s arrangements unconditionally."
"I’ll play it by ear. When we get back, I’ll talk to Mr. Jin and see if we can negotiate." While Chang Fei was talking to Transforming Mouse, his gaze was fixed on the direction where Yang Yan would return. Seeing her reappear, he said, leaving no room for argument, "You go first. Don’t make people suspicious."
Transforming Mouse left.
Yang Yan and Chang Fei sat down again.
Yang Yan questioned him: "I just saw you chatting with a pretty woman. Why didn’t you invite her over to sit with us?"
"Can I take that as you being jealous?" Chang Fei grinned broadly.
"Don’t change the subject. Answer my question." Yang Yan said seriously.
"Seeing how serious you look, even if you didn’t ask, I was going to come clean with you." Chang Fei explained solemnly, "That woman just now is an important client of my company. We just ran into each other by chance, so I said hello. There is absolutely nothing going on between us."
"I’ll trust you, look at how nervous you are." Yang Yan laughed happily.
"I’m afraid you’ll get jealous, afraid you’ll overthink it. How could I not be nervous?" Chang Fei said, sounding wronged.
"Alright, I’ve got things to do, I’m heading out. You don’t need to see me off. Wait for my call tomorrow." Yang Yan gathered her things, stood up, and got ready to leave.
"Okay." Chang Fei agreed, his heart full of joy.
