Chapter 1457: The Plot Succeeds
Peng Bird’s knife was pressed tightly against Nishikushu’s throat, fearing any unexpected move from him might lead to unforeseen changes.
Although Peng Bird, Flower Snake, Hua Diao, and Mountain Ghost all had excitement in their eyes, they dared not be careless. They remained cautious and did not relax for a moment before obtaining the map fragments.
Yamamoto and Nishida were helpless. Seeing Nishikushu’s life in danger, they did not dare to act recklessly.
If they were to alert others for help, the people in other rooms would become vigilant, swarm the corridor, and not give Peng Bird and his team a chance to leave. Attacking the room where Nishikushu was located would be a breeze, but they dared not take such risky actions.
In Yamamoto and Nishida’s minds, Nishikushu’s safety was the priority, and everything else could be put aside.
Under Peng Bird’s scolding, Yamamoto and Nishida’s threats fell silent.
"I know exactly what you want. I will definitely cooperate and hand over the items to you." Nishikushu said sincerely, trembling, "Once you get what you want, you won’t harm me, right?"
He was very worried, his anxious appearance made Peng Bird find it amusing, but it was also for the best to avoid trouble.
"I like people who are afraid of death, such people are beneficial to everyone." Peng Bird was very generous, "I can assure you, as long as we get what we want, we won’t trouble you, nor will we have any thoughts of killing."
Originally, Peng Bird and his team came for the map fragments, so naturally, they wouldn’t kill recklessly and make mortal enemies of Nishikushu and others.
Peng Bird was well aware of the power that Nishikushu and his associates represented, so he wouldn’t go looking for trouble.
"That’s good then, given your assurance, I naturally believe you." Nishikushu showed a sign of relief amid his panic.
"Boss, you have to think twice. These people are unscrupulous. If they turn on you after getting what they want, that would be terrible. You must guard against it." Yamamoto was very anxious, staring intently at Nishikushu as he reminded him.
"Boss, if you don’t open the box, you still have leverage for negotiation. If you open it, your life will no longer be in your own hands." Nishida also spoke up, wholly appearing to be concerned for Nishikushu.
"You two shut up. Do you want to get me killed?" Nishikushu scolded, "It’s all your fault for being useless, unable to protect me, and now, you’re still jabbering on, how foolish. Why should I trust you?"
"Boss..." Yamamoto and Nishida’s eyes were filled with anxiety, and they wanted to persuade further when Peng Bird interrupted coldly, "You two who don’t know your place, haven’t I told you? No more nonsense. Look at Nishikushu, how sensible. Do you two want to force him to death? I said I wouldn’t harm his life, and that is final."
"Knowing the current affairs makes a distinguished person. I understand this principle." Nishikushu solemnly said, "If you two talk any more, you’re harming me. You must believe the other side. There’s no deadly enmity between us, and I won’t be in danger."
With Nishikushu saying this, Yamamoto and Nishida dared not say another useless word, only remaining in silence and entanglement.
"Mr. Nishiku is still clever. I am very satisfied." Peng Bird praised.
Nishikushu spent some time and finally opened the briefcase. Inside, there was nothing but a piece of cloth.
The cloth had some marks and inscriptions that confirmed certain things. Evidently, this was one of the map fragments.
Peng Bird took the map fragment and looked at it. There was writing on it, but he couldn’t understand it as all the records on the cloth were in Japanese. It was understandable that he couldn’t comprehend it, but some descriptions of buildings could be seen clearly.
"Why is there only one? And where is the other map fragment?" Although he was delighted to get one piece, Peng Bird couldn’t help but frown, full of suspicion, and questioned Nishikushu.
It was widely known that Nishikushu had two map fragments in hand, a piece of news that had spread far and wide.
However, with only one map fragment now, Peng Bird was naturally not satisfied, and his expression immediately darkened.
"In my hand, there’s only one map fragment, not a second one." Nishikushu pleaded.
"Where’s the other piece? Where did you hide it?" Peng Bird pressed for answers, "Hand it over, and you can live. If you try any tricks, don’t blame me for being ruthless. I might slip and cut your throat."
"Brother, I really only have this one map fragment and nothing else." Nishikushu said wrongfully.
"Everyone knows you have two map fragments in your hand. How could it be only one? If you want to lie to me, you need to have the ability to do so. My patience is limited. I advise you to cooperate obediently." Peng Bird’s expression turned quite stern.
"I’m not lying to you, and I don’t dare lie to you. I genuinely only have one map fragment. The rumors from the outside are false, false." Nishikushu was particularly aggrieved, as the outside world had been spreading the rumor of him having two map fragments, but it is actually a misconception he couldn’t shake off.
"Where’s the second one? Speak!" Peng Bird’s demeanor was extremely harsh and interrogative.
Flower Snake chimed in, "We know you have two map fragments. If you only have one, where’s the other? Don’t tell me you don’t know. If your answers don’t satisfy us, you’ll naturally know the consequences."
"I know, you surely won’t spare me." Nishikushu said, "But, but I can’t say. If I do, even if you spare me, others won’t."
He became hesitant and his demeanor particularly conflicted, clearly struggling.
From this, it was obvious Nishikushu knew the whereabouts of another map fragment.
"If you won’t speak, I can kill you right now." Peng Bird said bluntly.
"Don’t be impulsive, don’t be impulsive, I’ll talk." Nishikushu seemed to resign himself, loudly saying, "The other map fragment, I don’t know whose hands it’s in. I’m just a runner, doing what I’m tasked with, not a leader."
"So, there’s someone behind you?" Peng Bird curiously inquired.
"Yes." Nishikushu blurted out, "It’s a woman, but I don’t know her name or identity. Heaven and earth can testify, I’ve told you everything I know. I’ve indeed broken a taboo. Even if you don’t kill me, others will."
