Chapter 80: Sword Stance
The ascent from the freezing depths of the catacombs felt significantly shorter than the journey down.
Leon and Beatrice emerged back into the warm opulent corridors of the upper estate finding the stronghold buzzing with frantic military preparations.
Heavily armored Vanguard knights were rushing between the courtyards dragging heavy ballistas and crates of enchanted ammunition to the shattered perimeter walls.
The threat of a secondary Syndicate invasion funded by a hostile foreign kingdom hung over the manor like a dark storm cloud.
They navigated their way to the Patriarch’s temporary command center located in a secure heavily fortified hall near the inner keep.
The golden warlord was standing over a sprawling tactical map issuing sharp concise orders to Commander Vance and the surviving lieutenants.
Beatrice stepped forward adopting her flawless professional facade and presented the heavy golden cylinder to her master.
"The Imperial Ward Key Lord Sterling," Beatrice announced crisply ensuring her voice carried no trace of the scandalous activities she had just engaged in.
The Patriarch accepted the artifact with a solemn nod.
He walked over to a highly intricate mechanical recess carved directly into the central stone pillar of the command center.
He slotted the heavy golden key into the mechanism and channeled a massive surge of his radiant golden aura directly into the ancient metal.
A deafening mechanical grinding sound echoed deep within the foundation of the estate.
A massive blinding dome of translucent blue kinetic energy violently erupted from the central keep expanding rapidly outward until it perfectly encapsulated the sprawling estate grounds.
The magical sky above them shimmered with a dense interlocking grid of defensive runes creating an impenetrable ceiling designed to violently reject any foreign spatial portals or teleportation magic.
"The airspace is locked," the Patriarch declared grimly turning his glowing eyes back toward the tactical map.
"The Eclipse Syndicate will have to march on our gates if they want to finish the job. Commander Vance ensure the emerald knights of House Vane are stationed along the eastern wall. If Lord Vane wants to protect his supply lines he will have to bleed for them."
Leon watched the strategic deployment with dark magnetic eyes.
He realized his raw physical stats were formidable but he desperately needed to master his new star iron greatsword before the heavy infantry arrived.
He quietly slipped out of the command center leaving Beatrice to manage the logistical nightmare of the siege preparations.
He used his high Agility to navigate the busy courtyards and retrieve his colossal weapon from his private suite before heading toward the secluded western training yard.
The western yard was a smaller enclosed arena usually reserved for private duels. Leon expected it to be empty but the rhythmic ringing of clashing steel echoed from beyond the stone archway.
He stepped into the arena and found Lady Isolde Vane furiously attacking a row of heavy wooden training dummies.
The haughty rival noblewoman had discarded her polished emerald breastplate opting for a tight sleeveless green training tunic that clung beautifully to her slender athletic curves.
Her fiery red hair whipped wildly through the air as she aggressively swung her thin enchanted rapier hacking at the wooden targets with a chaotic frantic energy.
She was visibly frustrated and heavily humiliated.
The memory of the magicless servant barehandedly pinching her lethal strike had severely damaged her pride and her swordsmanship was suffering greatly because of it.
Her footwork was sloppy and her strikes lacked their usual deadly precision.
Leon leaned his massive star iron greatsword against the stone archway and watched her violent tantrum with a highly calculated gaze.
The pervert system had been quiet since his exploits in the catacombs but he did not need a digital prompt to recognize a flawless opportunity to lay some crucial romantic groundwork.
He casually strolled into the training yard his soft leather boots making zero sound against the sandy floor.
Isolde raised her rapier intending to deliver a punishing lunging thrust into the center of a heavily battered dummy.
She channeled a volatile spark of lightning magic into the blade but her footing slipped in the loose sand ruining her biomechanical alignment.
Before she could stumble forward and embarrass herself further Leon blurred into motion.
He materialized directly behind her tall slender frame.
He smoothly reached out and firmly wrapped his large warm hands around her narrow waist.
He stepped into her guard pulling her back flush against his broad muscular chest to stabilize her chaotic momentum.
Simultaneously he reached his right hand down her arm and gently grasped her wrist manually adjusting the angle of her glowing rapier.
Isolde let out a sharp scandalous gasp as the rugged attendant suddenly enveloped her from behind.
The scorching heat radiating from his tailored combat leathers seeped directly through her thin training tunic sending a massive highly confusing jolt of electricity straight into her nervous system.
"Your anger is making you incredibly sloppy Isolde," Leon murmured in a deep resonant whisper that vibrated heavily against her ear.
He used his massive Charisma to project a heavy magnetic dominance that actively suppressed her aristocratic outrage.
"A rapier relies on flawless precision not brute force. Keep your hips centered and let your shoulder guide the thrust."
He applied a tiny fraction of his Tactile Enhancement skill through the hands gripping her waist.
The localized magical dexterity amplified the friction of his touch sending a highly concentrated wave of intense shivering warmth down her spine.
Isolde froze completely paralyzed by the overwhelming gravitational pull of his raw masculine presence.
She desperately wanted to scream at him to unhand her but the firm secure grip he maintained on her hips felt dangerously intoxicating.
Her haughty emerald eyes widened as she stared at her own blade marveling at how perfectly he had corrected her flawed stance without exerting any visible effort.
The crystal bell chimed beautifully in his skull projecting a glowing pink text box right above the wooden training dummy.
[Quest Issued: The Rival’s Stance]
[Context: The arrogant emerald knight is struggling to cope with her shattered pride. A true warlord knows how to rebuild his enemies into obedient followers. Assert your physical authority and show her how a real warrior moves.]
[Objective: Keep her pinned against your chest, slowly guide her arm forward to execute a flawless thrust into the dummy, and whisper that she needs a stronger man to teach her properly.]
[Reward: +10 Agility, Skill ’Lightning Reflexes’, 300 Shameless Points.]
[Failure Penalty: The Host will suffer a violent localized magical static shock causing his hair to stand on end like a highly ridiculous fluffy dandelion.]
Leon tightened his firm grip on her waist. He slowly guided her trembling arm forward utilizing his own passive Sword Mastery to demonstrate the perfect kinetic alignment.
Together they drove the thin enchanted rapier deeply into the center of the solid wooden dummy executing a flawless lethal strike that her chaotic anger had prevented her from achieving.
"You see how much easier it is when you relax?" Leon whispered smoothly brushing his lips lightly against the shell of her ear. "You clearly need a much stronger man to teach you how to handle a sword properly."
Isolde dropped her weapon and aggressively shoved herself out of his arms her pale cheeks burning a brilliant furious shade of crimson.
She spun around to face him her chest heaving erratically as she tried to summon her haughty aristocratic disdain.
"Do not ever touch me again you filthy arrogant peasant," Isolde hissed fiercely although her voice trembled noticeably under the heavy weight of her confusing arousal.
Leon simply offered a charming wicked smirk picking up his colossal star iron greatsword from the archway and tossing it casually over his broad shoulder.
He turned his back on the flustered emerald knight leaving her standing alone in the training yard grappling with the terrifying realization that she was rapidly falling under the spell of the very man she was supposed to despise.
