My Seed Gives Systems In The Apocalypse

Chapter 63: I do, I do...

Following the small zombie encounter and Fredrinn’s cold execution, the mood around the group had turned somber.

The 7 remaining traitors still walked at front with their pipes held tight and dripping with blood, but now they no longer felt as hopeful as they did before.

Max and others didn’t make conversations either, while Jenny was no longer in a mood to speak.

In silence, the group arrived at a wide crossroad.

Several cars were on the sides, some smashed and bumped into random walls as well as fire hydrants, while some parked on the road carelessly.

Corpses were strewn across the floor, painting the asphalt with red.

The group now had 3 choices, 3 roads that led to different places.

The left one had the highest amount of traffic blocking the way. Smashed cars, strewn corpses, zombies loitering around mindlessly with their feet dragging behind them.

It looked like the way to hell.

The right road was relatively calmer, less zombies, less cars and a slightly thinner road.

While the road at the front was... a different story.

It had less cars blocking their way. The zombies also weren’t as visible, yet, looking at it gave everyone a strange sense of discomfort.

Like there was something off about that road.

Jenny and Fredrinn exchanged a glance.

"I know that there’s a school and a hospital down that road. Maybe we can find a school bus there, or maybe an ambulance." She said hesitantly, "But, that direction just gives me a sense of unease."

Then, she turned to look at the quieter, less occupied right road, "Maybe we can go the long way and circle around the front road towards the school?"

"That way is too long, Jenny. We are going on foot, not a bunch of bikes or cars." Max shook his head as he heard her plan, "We are talking about at least an hour of walking if we follow your plan. Or, if we go straight ahead, we can reach the same destination in 15 minutes or less."

Fredrinn hummed listening to their plans. He had no memories and hadn’t really learnt the maps of their city, so he couldn’t really relate to the geographical talks.

"Why don’t we find smaller vehicles for ourselves then?" He said calmly.

Max turned to him and sighed, glancing at the group of traitors at front.

Due to them, the plans of finding small cars was pretty invalid as they clearly couldn’t trust those deserters.

Fredrinn shrugged, "Let’s let them go then. They are useless to us now, and I already told Jacob to bolt shut the doors to the storage room and don’t open them for anyone except us."

He said it loudly enough that those men could hear his words, but surprisingly, none of them voiced a complaint.

They had already realized that the ’opportunity’ to rejoin the group was as good as lost, so going separate ways sounded much better than getting used as meat shields or sacrificial pawns.

Especially after they had managed to kill two zombies with joint effort. Maybe surviving wouldn’t be that difficult?

One by one, they turned around to look at Fredrinn and others.

Their eyes had genuine hate and dislike behind them, but they didn’t dare to say something wrong lest they lose their lives.

"I won’t say that we didn’t deserve this treatment for what we did last night, but... we genuinely hope that you all die in a ditch somewhere." An older man said with a gruff voice, his teeth clenched and gaze focused.

Fredrinn smiled at their words, "Likewise. Cya." He waved casually.

The men glared at him with twitching eyelids, but they didn’t loiter around for too long as they quickly began to run in the rightwards road, choosing the safest bet for themselves.

Jenny and the remaining people stared at Fredrinn speechlessly.

Did he seriously just let those traitors go after bringing them out? What even was the point of them?

Use them to kill two weaklings that they could’ve killed without blinking an eye?

But, they didn’t ponder over the topic for much longer as the group glanced towards the leftwards road.

That’s where the most vehicles were at.

No longer dragging the dead weight of those traitors behind themselves, the group jogged inwards, not wandering too close to attract the zombies, but going deep enough that they could examine some vehicles.

On the side, a bike was thrown sideways, key still inside the keyhole while some paint was scraped from the side.

Despite the obvious accident of the original owner of that bike, it appeared in pretty good condition.

Jenny’s eyes twinkled seeing the vehicle as she excitedly ran over, letting her hand run over the metallic body.

It was a Harley Davidson pan america.

She looked at Fredrinn, smirking, "Do you know how to ride a bike, hmm?"

Fredrinn chuckled, raising his hand in surrender, "I don’t. No memories, remember?"

Jenny flicked her hair arrogantly, "Oh well, I guess you need to be my little backpack today."

’Backpack...? Isn’t that something people use to carry stuff?’ He looked at her weirdly, ’Is it a slang...?’

On other hand, Max and others came across a Toyota Camry, bumped against a fire hydrant with the bumper hanging low and loose.

There was no key inside the car, but luckily, there was no need for it as Aadav knew how to hotwire the car.

He quickly got into the driving seat, hotwiring it as Max sat on the passenger seat.

Charlie and the other unawakened human shuffled into the backside.

On the bike, Jenny pulled the bike backwards, twisting the key as the engine rumbled to life, vibrating against her legs as she revved a few times.

Her face had a wide grin on it as she smirked and gestured for Fredrinn to sit on the back.

Fredrinn blinked and sat behind her, letting his legs hang low until Jenny sighed and opened the footrests on the sides, "Please keep your feet on there, mister. You really don’t remember a thing?"

He coughed awkwardly, "I do, I do..."
