Chapter 64: ’Worthy Foe’
’Dad used to take me on bike rides in the past.’
With cold, gentle wind whipping Fredrinn’s hair around as he sat behind Jenny, he was taken down another memory road.
His father was still faceless, but he could vaguely remember a custom modded low rider bike that his father used to own.
He used to drop Fredrinn to school on that bike several times when he missed his school bus.
Suddenly, Jenny shifted the gear under her feet, revving the bike with a violent jerk, making it tilt slightly up before the front wheel fell back onto the road.
The tires screeched against the asphalt and Fredrinn’s feet unconsciously lost their grip on the footrests, flying upwards as he yelped, "What the–"
He was pulled out of the memory road and wrapped his hands around Jenny’s slender waist in a hurry.
"Oops~" Jenny giggled unapologetically, "You seemed too distracted, I was just checking how good your reflexes are. I must say... I overestimated you." She whispered, teasing him as her blonde hair flailed all over Fredrinn’s face who was sitting behind her.
She was driving at a whopping 90 kmph speed, though she did lower it to allow Aadav’s Camry to catch up to her.
On the way, they saw a couple of zombies who tried lunging towards their bike but Jenny weaved through them with ease.
Fredrinn sighed and fixed his sitting posture once again, snorting, "I was just travelling down the memory road. My dad used to ride me on the bike in the past, though I can’t remember much."
Jenny paused, humming to his story, "Is that so? What else do you remember?"
Fredrinn glanced around the apocalyptic view, the rising smokes, destruction, blood, zombies as he refocused onto Jenny who was no longer driving rashly.
Instead, she let the bike glide across the road. It felt strangely peaceful.
"Well, I used to sit behind him." Fredrinn whispered softly, allowing his hands to circle around her waist and wrapping them tighter as he pressed his chest against her back.
The distance between them was getting closer and Jenny wasn’t ready for it one bit.
She nearly lost her focus on the road and barely swerved out of an upside down car that was in the middle of the road.
Its steel was blackened out due to an explosion, some zombie corpses on the floor near it.
But before she could complain, Fredrinn continued against her ear.
"I used to hug him tightly like this when he drove fast." His hands were circling around her stomach with close intimacy, but not touching any of her privates or in a creepy manner.
She couldn’t help but squirm under his touch, nodding stiffly, "I see, b-but I am driving slow right now..."
Her heartbeats were racing, and this time, it wasn’t just due to the bike and adrenaline.
"You accelerated it suddenly, I am afraid you’re going to do it again. In addition, isn’t the backpack supposed to be quite close to the wearer?" He whispered against her ears, making them twitch as her face turned red.
"W-We are about to reach! Stop teasing me..." Jenny mumbled in a low, feminine and adorably innocent voice as she tried to remove his hands around her waist.
Fredrinn didn’t make it any more difficult for her either, as he removed his hands around her waist and a laugh slipped out of his lips, genuine one.
Jenny pouted in response as she glanced at the side mirror, staring at Fredrinn’s handsome face behind her before she refocused on the road.
However, suddenly, her eyes widened and she clenched the clutch with her left hand, stepping on the gear pedal with haste.
Her other foot pressed onto the brakes, lowering the speed to a halt.
Behind them, Aadav’s car also drifted against the road, slightly out of control as he swerved out of Jenny’s way and the rear bumper of the car slammed against the traffic light on the side.
Killing the momentum and making the metallic pole fall in another direction with a loud clang.
"WHAT THE HELL, JENNY?!" Aadav’s furious voice rumbled out of the car, but Jenny didn’t pay him even the slightest attention.
Instead, she was busy staring at the front with her face drenched in horror.
Ahead of her, it was a scene straight out of a movie as several cars were piled on top of each other, blocking the entire way forward as human corpses were hung at the front like a cruel, twisted exhibition.
Each of them had the seatbelts wrapped around their necks, bodies hanging limply and missing several chunks of flesh.
All of them faced in their direction, some had their eyes open while some had their eyes gouged out...
The road was drenched in blood.
It was inhumane, creepy and beyond messed up.
Jenny barely resisted the urge to throw up after looking at the scene.
Her breath came out in short bursts, her body frozen as she hurriedly turned away from it, pressing her head into Fredrinn’s chest.
Fredrinn quietly stroked her back as he stared at the sight with widened, shocked eyes.
Aadav who had furiously opened his door to shout at Jenny was also left speechless and traumatized at the sight. His curses died out on his throat.
"What in the fucking hell..." Max breathed out, a small amount of blood dripping down his nose due to the accident.
"No wonder this road felt strangely eerie." Fredrinn softly commented as he comforted Jenny, stroking her luscious hair.
The air in itself felt eerie, and the silence was no longer comforting. It felt scary.
