Chapter 65: Red Heels
Charlie stumbled out of the car, falling to his knees as he hurled out his lunch.
Max turned to look at Aadav with a dead serious gaze, "Get the car started and let’s fucking go from another way."
Aadav nodded like a hen pecking chicken, his face filled with fear as he shuffled into the car and quickly hotwired it, firing up the engine.
In the silent air, the sounds of his engine rumbling echoed.
Max ran back towards the car and using his mere muscles, he lifted the car slightly, turning it around as he pushed Charlie back into his seat.
"Jenny, ride the bike, yes?" Fredrinn gently whispered in Jenny’s ears, who slowly nodded against his chest and turned around, twisting the key to start the engine.
She didn’t dare raise her head as she planted one foot down and twisted the accelerator, instantly pivoting the bike around, leaving skid marks on the road below.
She didn’t look back nor say a thing, only revving the engine and driving as fast as she could.
But... just a few moments later, Jenny’s eyes widened and she skidded to a stop as Aadav’s Camry performed a similar maneuver.
Fredrinn had originally thought that he would return to this place some time later to complete the quest, at a time when his circuits were completely healed and he had unlocked some useful offensive abilities from the system.
After all, there was no time limit on the quest.
But now... he realized how foolish that thinking was.
Whoever was capable of constructing that eerie wall of death obviously knew that the people would run away at a sight.
And unfortunately, it had already created some counters against that.
Now, the road that led back outside was blocked with a couple of cars, obstructing any thoughts of leaving this place on vehicles.
If that wasn’t enough, there was a large number of zombies, hanging around the barrier, blocking the thoughts of retreating on foot.
As, even though they were weak, their sheer numbers made up for the weakness.
Jenny grit her teeth, turning her head in all directions to see even a minute chance of escape, but there was none...
Zombies at the back, the eerie wall of cars and corpses at the front... both ways were blocked.
Surprisingly, the large horde of zombies noticed their vehicles and yet made no movements to approach them, as if they had been given a single job of securing the retreat and that’s all they planned to do.
"GRAAAAAAAH!" An obscenely loud and feminine growl echoed throughout the road as Fredrinn stared at the source of the sound.
It was coming from the large wall of cars.
An impact caused a door of an expensive sports car to shoot outwards, clattering against the road as a foot came into the view.
It was adored with a pair of red, long heels. The skin was ashen grey, pale and appearing cold like it belonged to a corpse. And yet, it was smooth and showed no signs of rot or injury like the other zombies.
Jenny gulped audibly in fear.
The owner of that foot climbed out of the sports car, yawning and walking with a calm swagger, like that person was a normal human instead of an entity that caused... all this.
Her hips swayed hypnotically, her crimson red hair falling down her face beautifully and a pair of horns were jutting out of her temples, twisting demonically.
Jenny had never seen a demon in real life, but if she had to make a guess... that’s how she would imagine one to look like.
The ’zombie’ was dressed in a magnificent red one piece, which matched well with her hair.
But... Her face was a different story. Fresh blood dripped down her lips and chin as she licked her lips like she just had a delicious meal.
She was walking without an ounce of fear, her crimson eyes locked onto Fredrinn and Jenny.
Just then, Max, Charlie, the other unawakened and Aadav, all came out of the car, staring at the mysterious zombie with fear.
Max and the unawakened both aimed their guns at the zombie but she appeared unaffected by the threat.
"W-Wait, she’s most likely immune to bulle–" Jenny tried to warn, remembering the stage three zombie she encountered last night.
But unfortunately... her warning came too late.
*BANG* *BANG* *BANG* *BANG* *BANG*
Before she knew it, her friend, Eddie the unawakened had already pulled the trigger.
Not once. Not twice. Not even thrice. He kept shooting again and again till the entire magazine was emptied and the trigger kept making clicking noises in his hands.
Bullets flew at an astonishing speed, piercing the mysterious woman directly in the skull before she could even realize that she was shot at.
One went in her skull, two into her chest, three on the shoulder or missed.
The woman stumbled backwards from the impact, a small amount of blood dripping down her injuries as Eddie smirked in victory.
"What were you even saying, Jenny? She may be strong, but there’s no way that she’s a match for our guns— Bllrb Gaggg"
Eddie’s words died on his throat and his eyes remained wide open, staring at Jenny’s horrified face who kept screaming his name but he couldn’t hear her at all.
He fell on his knees, blood tricking down his nose as he slowly touched his head.
An object was sticking out of his skull.
His vision began to darken and from the peripheral vision, he saw Max rushing towards him.
’What... even happened...’
Max yanked something out of his skull and threw it aside. It was a red heel, drenched in blood, the pointed end of it oozing some slightly yellowish brain matter.
Everyone’s eyes turned back towards the mysterious woman together, as she was in the middle of a throwing motion. One of her heels was gone and the bullets that Eddie had shot were already expelled out of her body.
The bullets clattered against the floor and her wounds healed almost immediately.
"Hehe... Fun." She whispered softly.
