Chapter 66: You. Have. Potential
"Hehe... Fun."
Her words were unsettling to hear, like they were witnessing an impossibility coming to reality.
She was speaking in English. Broken, rough on the edges and slightly weird accent.
But... it was without a doubt... English. A language that was created and used by most humans. Something that a zombie had no business knowing or speaking.
Fredrinn took a deep breath, his gaze focused straight at the zombie in front.
Even without a single exchange, he could already feel that the zombie ahead of him was leagues apart from the one he slew last night.
The difference was incomparable.
’Lust... Don’t tell me that’s the worthy foe I am supposed to defeat.’
[ replies that it isn’t. ]
Fredrinn’s eyes widened.
That’s not the foe he needed to defeat?! If that’s not worthy, then what was worthy!?
A fucking god?!
’Are you serious? That’s not the worthy foe?!’
[ blinks innocently. Host told it to tell him that she’s not the worthy foe and it did. Does host want truthful answer now? ]
’I swear to god...’ Fredrinn felt his anger surge at Lust’s irritatingly playful reply. That bastard really couldn’t care less about the seriousness of the situation!
[ waves its hand frantically. Now now, no need for crash language, host. She’s the one you’re supposed to defeat. Does host feel pleased by Lust’s assistance? ]
Fredrinn huffed through his nose, directly ignoring the Lust’s messages lest he loses his mind and go on a cursing spree at the sin.
Instead, he refocused on the woman zombie at the front.
She was currently looking down at her own feet, her head tilted in confusion as she saw the disbalance between the two legs.
One was raised up by nearly 3 inches, while the other was barefoot and pressing onto the road.
It didn’t look even at all!
Then, she gazed upwards, ignoring the group of humans and focusing on the red heel that was thrown to the side carelessly.
"Give... that... me." She whispered softly, her voice still as unsettling as ever as she refocused on the buff, young teenager. Charlie.
Charlie’s eyes widened, his grip on his metal pipe tightening as he looked back at the horrifying zombie.
He couldn’t even sense how fast she threw her heel at Eddie.
He had no intention of angering an entity as powerful as her.
Charlie quickly dropped the pipe and scrambled towards the heel as the noise from the pipe caused some zombies to growl and start moving in his direction.
They were crossing the makeshift car barricade, stumbling in the group’s direction.
"STAY!!!! GRAH!" The woman suddenly screamed, making all the zombies as well as Charlie freeze in their tracks.
They trembled from head to toe, and despite the unreal analogy, Jenny could swear that she saw fear in those zombie’s pupilless, soulless eyes.
They stumbled backwards, moving back behind the barricade as the woman stared at Charlie.
"Give." She said coldly, not an ounce of patience in her tone as she stared at Charlie like he was a dead man walking.
Charlie panicked from fear, leaning over to grab the heel before he tossed it in her direction without hesitation.
The throw was slightly off, flying over her head and if it kept going, it was sure that it would fall behind her.
However, the woman couldn’t care less, as she bent her barefoot leg and effortlessly jumped upwards.
Her body sliced through the air, catching the heel and adorning it back on her feet mid air as she fell back on the ground, now wearing both her heels again.
A pleased smile appeared on her lips as she nodded in satisfaction.
She looked at Charlie and squinted, pointing a finger at him before hooking it towards herself.
Charlie felt stumped. His throat felt dry and he hopelessly looked back at Fredrinn, Jenny, Max and Aadav.
He could see in their eyes that none of them had any intention of going against the woman’s orders.
Fredrinn was busy observing that woman, assessing if he was even capable of beating her, while others were simply too scared to care about a stranger at the moment.
"I– I will go there..." Charlie said softly, hanging his head low and slowly walking in the woman’s direction.
She smiled when she saw him approach.
"You. Have. Potential." She said in broken English, her gaze focused onto the bite mark on Charlie’s forearm, "Me can. Help."
She pressed her index finger onto the bite mark, and instantly, Charlie let out the most horrifying, gut wrenching scream he could muster.
"AAHHHH!"
His knees gave out and he collapsed in front of her, incapable of removing his hand from her touch as he tried to attack with his other hand.
But just a single slap from the woman dislocated his shoulder, rendering his feeble attack useless.
In front of everyone’s eyes, Charlie began to transform physically.
His outer skin began to rot, slowly and painfully. His eyes were bloodshot, his mouth wide open as he screamed up to the nine heavens.
Jenny averted her eyes, her fists curled into a fist as she clenched her teeth so hard that her gums bled.
Max tightened his grip on his Uzi but didn’t dare to aim it or shoot.
Aadav, on the other hand, nearly pissed himself in fright. He imagined the same happening to himself and soon, liquid began to trickle down his pants...
The woman’s focus was solely on Charlie as she grinned manically, watching as he transformed into a gruesome zombie right in front of her eyes.
But then...
Her instincts tingled dangerously. A whistling sound entered her ear and she instantly tilted her head to the side.
"Hurts."
She whispered, feeling some crimson blood flowing down her head, through her shimmering red hair as her grip on Charlie’s hand loosened.
He fell down to the floor, panting and coughing blood as colour began to reappear on his skin.
And when he looked up, he was shocked to see a broken sword had pierced the woman right into her skull.
The sword was emitting a faint blue light and behind him, where Fredrinn stood, he was in the middle of a throwing animation.
Just like that woman had been when she threw the heel at Eddie...
