Chapter 143: A Lie for Survival

His family was still out there. He couldn’t accept dying such a pathetic death — especially not after something that hadn’t even been intentional.

Nyxara’s voice cut through the air, cold and final.

"I see... You have no last words. Then die!" As Nyxara raised her sword, Nova panicked and shouted,

"Wait!! ...You can’t kill me!"

Nyxara raised an eyebrow, her voice remaining ice-cold. "I wasn’t going to, but you made a grave mistake. Now you have to die."

"What kind of logic is that?!" Nova shouted back, still panicking.

"Don’t you realize it wasn’t my fault?! You’re the one who killed that beast and didn’t check whether its corpse could release something like that mist!"

The moment the words left his mouth, he realized he had made another mistake. He saw her body begin to tremble with rage.

"How dare a mere ant like you shout at me and point out my mistakes?"

Nyxara’s pressure exploded outward. Nova was instantly forced down onto his knees, coughing and breathing heavily. Only his powerful physique allowed him to resist being completely crushed.

Still struggling, he forced his head up and looked at her.

"Y-You can’t kill me... You know I also have a royal bloodline. Killing me will create problems for you."

Nyxara looked down at him with disdain.

"You don’t have to worry about that. People will simply assume you were killed by a demonic beast. And I highly doubt you belong to any royal clan I’m aware of."

"Shit..." Nova cursed inwardly. Her words were correct. Even if she killed him right here, everyone would believe he had simply died to one of the many beasts on the Fourth Level. A King Realm demon surviving here was already unbelievable.

Nyxara raised her sword once more. She could have ended him without the slightest hesitation... yet something inside her was stopping her.

She had to kill him. He had defiled her. That right should have belonged only to someone she loved — yet this man had taken it from her.

She looked down at him, hesitating. He was extremely handsome. In fact, she had never met a man more handsome than him.

He also possessed a royal bloodline that felt abnormally pure, and the quality of his demonic aura was off the charts — completely mismatched with his actual strength.

She was still struggling with her decision when her hand began to move faster than her conflicting thoughts.

Seeing the sword descending again, Nova panicked even more. "Wait... wait, please don’t kill me! I’ll do anything you tell me!"

With no other choice left, Nova fully released his true demonic aura and activated his bloodline suppression for the first time.

Nyxara’s sword stopped mid-air. Her eyes widened in pure shock.

How...? How could his demonic aura be even purer than hers — and strong enough to suppress her bloodline? She could feel her own blood beginning to boil under the pressure.

Nova was using the full power of his bloodline suppression, but because his overall strength was still low, the effect was limited. Even so, it was enough to make Nyxara take a step back.

Not wanting to reveal this power unless absolutely necessary, Nova had been forced to use it as his only way to survive.

Nyxara stared at him in stunned silence.

"...Who are you?"

"How are you suppressing my bloodline? Don’t tell me... your bloodline is even purer than mine?"

Nova exhaled heavily and slowly stood up.

"First promise me you won’t kill me. Then I’ll tell you."

Nyxara frowned deeply. She didn’t want to listen to him. She still felt she had to kill him. But... he possessed such a pure bloodline.

Who exactly was he? And beyond that... he had released his seed inside her. She couldn’t just let him die so easily.

She shook her head, trying to clear the confusing thoughts, and forced herself to think logically.

The man in front of her possessed a bloodline purer than her own — even purer than her father’s, the current strongest Demon Lord. He must either have some secret bloodline or an extraordinarily special parents.

She knew every royal family in the Abyss, yet his bloodline didn’t belong to any and it’s purity felt as if it had been directly blessed by the Demon God himself.

After thinking for a few more moments, she made her decision.

"Alright... I promise I won’t kill you." Her voice was still cold, but the killing intent had lessened. "Now tell me. Who exactly are you?"

Nova let out a heavy sigh and took several deep breaths as he deactivated his bloodline suppression.

He straightened his posture and looked directly into Nyxara’s beautiful crimson eyes. She was observing him with clear curiosity, though her black sword still remained in her hand.

Nova gulped once, then spoke in a steady, confident tone.

"My name is Nova."

"I wasn’t born in the Abyss. In fact, this is my first time here. I ended up on the Fourth Level by accident."

Nyxara narrowed her eyes slightly.

"That would explain your pathetic strength. Then where exactly were you born... and how did you end up here by accident?"

She was still carefully watching for any signs of deception. So far, she couldn’t detect any obvious lies on his face. Of course, Nova had no intention of revealing his true human origin.

He had already prepared a believable story, and years of controlling his expressions gave him confidence that she wouldn’t easily see through him.

He continued calmly.

"I was born on the human continent."

Nyxara’s eyes widened in shock.

"What?! How were you born there? Who were your parents? Don’t tell me you’re a half-demon?"

She didn’t particularly hate half-demons the way many pure demons in the Abyss did, but she could already tell that Nova was a true demon — not a hybrid.

Nova shook his head.

"I’m not a half-demon. And I don’t know who my real parents are. After I was born, I was taken care of by an old demon woman who lived in hiding on the human continent. She was a spy working for some Demon Lord."

"When I was ten years old, she was killed by humans. Before she died, she hid me in a safe place and revealed that she wasn’t my real mother. She said she had found me abandoned in the forest near where she lived."

"After she died, I was left all alone in the human world. I was only ten years old at the time. Fortunately, she had already taught me how to use a human form so I could blend in among them. I lived as a human for the next eight years."

"Since my foster mother was a spy, she was never allowed to return to the Abyss and share informations from human continent Still, she told me many things about it.

Before she died, she also gave me a strange black stone and told me that if I ever found myself cornered by a danger I couldn’t handle, I should break it."

"According to her, doing so would send me to the Abyss. When I asked where she got the stone, she refused to tell me anything."

"She had realized long ago that my bloodline was even purer than that of most royals. Because of that, she strictly warned me never to enter the Abyss unless it was absolutely necessary."

"Because of my unnatural bloodline, she knew it could create serious problems for me and put me in great danger. That’s why I chose to remain in the human world."

"But one day, I was confronted by a member of the Twilight Order."

"He was at the Emperor Realm. I ran for days, but that bastard refused to let me go and kept chasing me relentlessly. I was terrified of using the stone because I had no idea where in the Abyss it would send me."

"In the end, he cornered me. With no other choice left, I broke the stone."

"I was still so young... I hadn’t even gotten married yet," Nova said shamelessly. "I didn’t want to die so early without ever experiencing the pleasure of being with my wife."

Nyxara’s brows twitched at his words. He continued without hesitation.

"So I broke the stone... and ended up here."

Nyxara watched him with serious eyes, thinking deeply about everything he had said.

She carefully considered whether his story was true or if there were still lies hidden within it. From what she could sense, he did not appear to be lying.

Even so, she remained conflicted about what to do next. He had done those things to her. Although neither of them had been in full control at the time, that fact alone did not make it easier to accept.

As she reviewed his story once more, she noticed a few points that still felt questionable. After a moment of silence, she decided to ask him about them directly
