Chapter 431 (1): The Demon God Returns to a Hell that Is Loyal to Him

Wayne, as a spectator, was eager for another show of a boss lady beating up her lackey. Moreover, he silently judged Hestia’s career to be over. She could expect unfair treatment once she returned to Heaven.

“Clergywoman, Frey is my name in Heaven. You have no right to call me that,” Hestia said sarcastically, doing everything she could to create more obstacles for her career.

She had a sharp tongue and a large arsenal of sarcastic remarks. Every other word out of her mouth was about purity and filth, and she attacked Hesione where she was most tender with surgical precision.

Hesione’s face darkened. She wanted to swap places with Mona, but was denied. She wanted nothing more than to tear Hestia a new one.

Back in Palis, Hestia had insisted on staying with Wayne and returning to Londan with him, even giving herself a job: secretary!

It was obvious who her target was.

Although Hesione was furious, she had still been trying to help Hestia. She told Wayne about the two other reincarnated angels remaining in the Papal State and asked him to kick Hestia out with the excuse. For someone with such a lewd body to stay by Wayne’s side, the pervert would sooner or later lose control. Then a second reincarnated angel would lose her purity.

Hesione was first, and then a member of her legion followed.

An outsider would think she was trying to control the Anointed One by giving herself and her subordinate away!

However, Hestia soon returned to Wayne. Hesione’s face turned stormy as she listened to Hestia’s cutting sarcasm. After weighing her options, she decided she had to kill Hestia.

The Anointed One was impure enough as it was. She could not allow him to fall further. Hestia was clearly the Lord of Lust’s spy in Heaven. There was enough justification for Hesione to execute her here and now.

Sensing the killing intent, Hestia strode up to Wayne and said coldly, “What? Have you lost your temper because you’re exposed? You can’t even face reality after spending all this time with the Śār. You don’t deserve your stigma!”

How vicious you can get. Who did you learn it from?

Wayne gleefully watched Hestia lash out at Hesione one-sidedly. He suspected that she had learned from her time in a prison cell in Prussia. During that time, he had spared nothing to mock Hestia. It had been a learning experience, it seemed.

“What’s the deal with her?” Hesione looked at Wayne coldly. “Why is she here?”

“Bastard, who are you talking to?!” Hestia raged, drawing her Sacred Lance of Heaven to fight the secretary for forgetting her place—to the death.

Hesione narrowed her eyes. That was exactly what she wanted. Reaching into the Void, she was about to draw the Oath Sword when Wayne intervened.

“Calm down. This is my detective agency. If you break it, I’ll have to sleep on the streets.”

He gave Hesione a resigned glance. The killing intent is genuine. Have you lost it, or have you lost it, Śār?

Hestia’s loyalty was undeniable. She had done no wrong except for devoting her loyalty to the wrong person. The more vicious her words were, the happier Hesione should be.

“I’m simply accepting her challenge, Boss. I’m not—”

“You are.” Wayne shook his head. “You will not attack her. That is an order!”

What order? In whose name are you giving the order?

As the master of the contract of Golden Law between us, or the Anointed One?

If it was the former, she could ignore the order. If it was the latter...

Hesione scowled. Wayne could play dumb, but not her. She shot Hestia a glare and pulled her hand out of the Void.

Hestia lifted her chin proudly. She knew it. She knew she was more important to her superior than the clergywoman.

“And you, stop badmouthing her,” Wayne said seriously. “I’ve warned you before to show her as much respect as you do me. Don’t make me repeat it a third time.”

Soon after, Wayne sat at his desk with two reincarnated angels across from him, heads hung low. One struggled to find a way to make the Anointed One see the light, while the other was depressed after her superior criticized her.

“Sit.” Wayne tapped the desk. “Let’s talk about demons and angels.”

There was only one chair on the other side of the desk, which Hestia claimed before Hesione did. Huffing, Hesione turned to grab a chair from the side of the couch.

“What are you waiting for? This is your seat.”

Wayne patted his thigh. It was the rule of any workplace that the boss’s lap was the secretary’s exclusive seat. Hesione clenched her teeth. She didn’t want the Anointed One to fall so low because of her, so she rejected her usual place.

“Hestia, come—”

Hesione sat down on Wayne, garnering Hestia’s glare.

Chuckling, Wayne put his arm around Hesione’s waist, growing even more satisfied with Hestia. She was an open book with her emotions on full display, making her an exceptional wingwoman.

“You shouldn’t indulge her like that, Śār!” Hestia said, frustrated.

Hesione sighed softly. She didn’t want this, but what could she do when it was the Anointed One’s request?

Blame the damn Pope!

“I’m the Śār. I can indulge anyone I want to indulge.” Wayne then relayed the information Juno had brought him. “All seven reincarnated angels have gathered in Londan, among whom are two Śārim. This is enough to flush out the demon in hiding.”

Speaking of the wretched demon, Hesione seethed. “What are you going to do, Boss? Do you have a plan?”

“The demon has been hiding well. They haven’t made a single appearance except for when they targeted me.” Wayne frowned. “The Thousand-eyed Demon almost opened the Gate of Hell, yet the demon in hiding remained quiet. Either they are up to something else, or they have left Londan.”

“No, my instinct told me that the demon is still in Londan!” Hesione chimed in.

“Your instinct? Why would you have an instinct regarding demons?” Hestia continued to level up as a sarcasm master. “Ha, aren’t you a demon yourself?”

“Boss, please let me kill her!”

“No, I like her a lot,” Wayne shot Hesione down, then glared at Hestia. “What did I say? Have you forgotten?”

Hestia lowered her head, apologizing to the secretary quietly.

“I’ll repeat the rules of the meeting. I’m the only one who can interrupt others here. You will not bring up topics that are not related to the agenda. It’s unbecoming of angels to be catty. I, a Śār, cannot tolerate this.”

Wayne slammed the table. “This isn’t a regular demon. They have much more self-control and keep a much lower profile than any other demons we know. Moreover, they are at least a demon lord. Once things come to a boil, the consequences will be dire.”

Hestia and Hesione nodded. Compared to the demon, the Lord of Envy seemed childish and immature.

“Which demon lord do you think they are, Boss?”

“You go first.” Wayne patted Hesione on the backside.

“First, it’s not Envy. When we first met, he didn’t know about my condition... About my stigma, I mean. The seal wasn’t his doing.” Hesione went through the different demon lords. “As for the other six demons, Pride is too prideful, lacking in self-control and patience. Wrath, Greed, Gluttony, and Lust are also demon lords with strong desires.”

“So that leaves Sloth?”

“But Sloth is too lazy.”

“...”

Right.

Hestia frowned at the man and woman locked in each other’s embrace. She would like to say that the clergywoman knew nothing, that the Śār favored her too much, but she swallowed the words for fear of angering the Śār. Instead, she huffed.

Hesione rolled her eyes, producing a compact mirror to touch up her lips. Her hands froze when she turned around and saw Wayne’s suggestive smile. She couldn’t offend the Anointed One.

“It’s okay. It’s not the first time, so just go for it...”

“...”

Hesione wiped her lips with a handkerchief, confirming that Wayne knew that he was the Anointed One. It suddenly felt like she had thorns digging into her backside. She wanted to get up, but ended up pulled back down.

Hestia’s eyes reddened with anger.

“There is a demon lord I find most suspicious,” Wayne said. “They arrived in the human world a long time ago and have reincarnated into a human.”

“Impossible!” Hestia countered before adding apologetically, “I’m not questioning you, but Heaven’s seal has remained unbroken. It is an angel’s privilege to be reincarnated into a human, not a demon’s. They cannot break the seal and thus cannot descend in that manner.”

“It is possible. When I destroyed the Thousand-eyed Demon, I found a reincarnation altar somewhere under Londan,” Wayne said. “It belongs to the Lord of Pride, etched with the Golden Law and the Seven Deadly Sins. With the Golden Law vouching for the target, a human could reincarnate into a demon, and a demon could reincarnate into a human, freely passing through the seal that Heaven applied to Hell.”

“I didn’t know that...” Hestia breathed out in disbelief. “If it’s the Lord of Pride, he would be capable of that. But... why has he lain low for so long? What is he waiting for?”

After a pause, Hestia said, “I get it now. Śār, the demon lord’s after you!”

“No, the demon lord only applied a seal rather than killed him, probably because he doesn’t want to alert Heaven and draw our attention,” Hesione interjected. “That means his target is above the reincarnated angels.”

They stilled, coming to the same conclusion. There was only one such being—the Anointed One!

“Boss, the Lord of Pride is after the Anointed One,” Hesione said frightfully. “Father’s prophecy was leaked.”

Heavenly Father’s prophecy had been entrusted to Lahr, one of the four Śārim. According to the timeline of the human world, the prophecy was only allowed to be interpreted thirty years ago. Moreover, only the Four Śārim knew the detailed information about the Anointed One...

There was a traitor among the Śārim!

“Who was it... Lahr, or Auriel...”

“Lahr is in charge of the prophecy, and he could interpret it in advance to tattle to Hell. Auriel has personally descended and has now gathered the reincarnated angels in Londan. He’s suspicious, too...”

Hesione murmured to herself, naming the Śārim directly. Hestia’s brows furrowed.

“How do you know this much, Secretary?”

“Boss told me.”

Realizing her mistake, Hesione put the blame on Wayne.

“Yes, I told her.” Wayne nodded, turning to her with a smile. “Since I’ve told you such important secrets, aren’t you going to pay me back?”

He pointed at his own face.

“Boss, the rules of the meeting forbid unrelated topics,” Hesione said flatly.

“Then I’ll add another rule: my words are law in the office.”

“...”

Hesione had no choice but to peck Wayne on the face, but he turned around suddenly so that her kiss landed on his mouth.

Hestia shot to her feet, knocking the pencil cup over.

This time, it was an accident.
