Chapter 153 : Naruto’s Nine Tails Are Only Half Nine Tails
For example, Sakura’s use of the Strength of a Hundred Seal is primarily focused on enhancing her physical strength, but her healing ability still can’t compare to Tsunade’s.
After all, her body is nowhere near Tsunade’s level.
Although Tsunade’s chakra reserves aren’t limitless, they’re still extremely high—even by Kage standards.
She’s not on the level of the tailed beasts, but compared to an average Kage-level ninja, she stands far above.
Sakura can’t match her in that regard.
As a result, Tsunade’s Strength of a Hundred Technique not only boosts her physical power, but also significantly amplifies her regeneration. In Sakura’s case, a large portion of her chakra is used just to reinforce her physical strength.
Tsunade spent over an hour explaining things to Riku before she began guiding him through the chakra pathways of the Strength of a Hundred Technique.
The instruction alone took more than three hours to finish.
Though Shizune had been quietly listening the entire time, she couldn’t grasp it. In fact, Tsunade had tried to teach Shizune the Strength of a Hundred Seal before, but she just couldn’t master it.
After absorbing the explanation, Riku sat in silence, deep in thought. Tsunade wasn’t in any rush—she knew that the Strength of a Hundred Technique was far more difficult than the seal itself.
She didn’t expect him to grasp it anytime soon.
But after just sixteen minutes of contemplation, Riku raised his hands and began weaving hand signs.
"Release: Hundred Healings Mark—Strength of a Hundred Technique!"
The moment he released the stored chakra in the Hundred Healings Mark, the air around him trembled violently from the sheer force. Chakra burst outward in a chaotic surge.
Boom!
Within the hidden chamber, the floor cracked beneath the force of the chakra eruption. Spiderweb-like fissures radiated from where Riku stood.
Intricate, glowing runes spread across his body, extending all the way to his legs.
Riku then slashed open a deep wound in his hand.
Blood streamed freely.
Tsunade instinctively looked away, unable to watch.
Riku’s face remained expressionless.
In less than two seconds, the five-centimeter gash on his hand had fully healed.
The regeneration was astounding.
But despite the incredible effect, Riku didn’t seem pleased. In fact, he looked rather indifferent. The healing speed was still inferior to the regenerative ability granted by his own unique physiology.
He looked up at Tsunade and said plainly, "This jutsu can heal minor injuries rapidly, but the chakra cost is significantly higher than standard medical ninjutsu."
"If it’s overused, it’ll shorten your lifespan. You shouldn’t rely on this too often. It’s a technique that should only be used in life-or-death situations."
Though he knew Tsunade had lived well into her seventies, Riku couldn’t help but wonder: could she have lived beyond a hundred if not for this technique?
Losing a few years of life with each repeated use... it wasn’t a small matter.
After deactivating the Strength of a Hundred Technique, Riku continued speaking with Tsunade.
Tsunade smiled and replied, "Don’t worry. This technique is a secret art—there’s no way I’d use it carelessly."
But inwardly, she was stunned.
The moment Riku released his seal, the explosive wave of chakra he emitted... it was unquestionably tailed beast-level.
And he’d only learned the Hundred Healings Mark a few hours ago.
For him to store and release such massive reserves so quickly—and cause a chakra riot of that scale—spoke volumes.
Riku’s chakra wasn’t just large.
It was monstrous.
Even among the elite of the ninja world, few had ever possessed chakra of this scale.
Hoshigaki Kisame was one such ninja, but he relied on Samehada to absorb chakra from others to boost his own.
Tsunade furrowed her brow and finally asked, "Riku, why do you have so much chakra? It’s easily at the level of a tailed beast."
Riku looked surprised by the question. But he didn’t see any reason to hide the truth from her.
"You’re right," he said calmly. "My chakra levels are about the same as Kyubi."
This kind of thing couldn’t be hidden for long, anyway. Any experienced sensory ninja would be able to detect it. Even the Byakugan could probably see the difference.
Riku wasn’t being boastful. He was simply stating a fact.
But Tsunade raised an eyebrow, smiling as if amused.
"Do you even understand how much chakra Kyubi has?" she asked. "Among all nine tailed beasts, he has the largest reserves—and the greatest power. You’re saying you’ve matched that?"
Even Hashirama Senju, with his unparalleled vitality, could only compare when Naruto combined his own chakra with Kyubi .
But Riku met her gaze seriously. "Would I lie to you?"
Tsunade’s smile faltered. She began to sense his chakra more carefully.
And when she did, she froze.
A cold shiver ran down her spine.
"This... this chakra... it’s absurd..."
It wasn’t just on par with Kyubi .
It was beyond what she could comprehend.
The sheer pressure coming off of Riku was far beyond what even the Nine Tails sealed within Naruto had ever exhibited.
"You... You have more chakra than Kyubi ..." she whispered.
Riku shook his head. "No. I said I have about the same. But the Kyubi inside Naruto only has half of his full chakra. I’m not sure where the other half is—but it’s definitely not inside Naruto."
Tsunade’s eyes narrowed.
"Half?" she echoed.
She knew Naruto was the Fourth Hokage’s son. But she didn’t know all the details of how the Nine Tails had been sealed inside him.
"It feels like Kyubi was split deliberately," Riku continued. "If Naruto had the full Nine Tails sealed in him, his body wouldn’t be able to handle it."
Even with his Uzumaki lineage, bearing the complete chakra of the Nine Tails would be far too much for a child without proper training or sealing techniques.
Unlike Mito or Kushina, Naruto hadn’t learned the powerful Uzumaki sealing arts before becoming a Jinchūriki.
When the Fourth Hokage sealed Kyubi into Naruto, the seal had to be extraordinarily precise.
Mito and Kushina could suppress Kyubi with brute force thanks to their sealing mastery.
But they never tried to use his power. Not like Naruto would, later.
They could enter a version of Nine Tails Chakra Mode—but they could never attain full Kurama Mode. Their method was to forcefully extract the chakra, not negotiate with the beast itself.
That alone proved just how advanced their sealing skills were.
Even when Kushina had Kyubi ripped from her, she was still able to use the Adamantine Sealing Chains to bind him in place before dying.
That kind of power was something Naruto didn’t have.
If the full Nine Tails had been sealed inside him, he would’ve gone berserk in seconds.
Even with just half, Naruto still struggled to maintain control—at least until he finally came to terms with Kyubi .
Mito and Kushina never lost control.
Especially Kushina—despite being the Nine Tails’ host, she lived a peaceful life. Most villagers didn’t even know she was a Jinchūriki.
