"Have you figured out how you’re going to escape yet?" Kitazawa asked leisurely.
"I will definitely kill you!"
Riled by his tone, Obito roared.
In that moment, he made up his mind—he would escape.
He couldn’t beat Kitazawa now, but Black Zetsu might be able to help.
Black Zetsu was extremely mysterious, claiming to be Uchiha Madara’s will.
Most importantly, it had gone to see Nagato alone, likely to retrieve the Rinnegan.
If Obito could obtain the Rinnegan, his strength would surely surpass Nagato’s, and then he might have a chance to defeat Kitazawa.
"Don’t you only have five minutes? How do you still have the mood to spout nonsense?" Kitazawa shot back.
"You..."
Just as Obito was about to flee, he froze in place, as if struck by lightning.
His face filled with disbelief.
"You want to ask how I know your Kamui can only last five minutes?" Kitazawa smiled faintly. "You can go to the Pure Land and ask the Sage of Six Paths."
"Bastard!"
Obito trembled with rage.
But once the anger passed, terror set in.
If Kitazawa even knew the limit of Kamui’s duration... could he still escape?
"Enough chatter. Struggle for your life."
Kitazawa’s voice turned cold as he clapped his hands together.
Wood Release: Deep Forest Emergence!
Centered on Kitazawa, surging chakra erupted in all directions.
In an instant, a vast forest sprang from the earth.
At his command, the forest came alive.
Countless branches and vines lashed toward Obito like a storm of blades.
They all passed harmlessly through his intangible body.
Kitazawa remained composed.
Obito, on the other hand, felt no sense of relief at evading that deadly jutsu—
Because he only had four minutes left.
Gritting his teeth, he turned and ran.
Kitazawa watched him flee.
The dense branches and vines chased after Obito like a living tide.
Even when Obito escaped the initial area of Deep Forest Emergence, new trees kept sprouting wherever he ran.
Death clung to him like a shadow.
Kitazawa clapped his hands again.
Wood Release: Wood Dragon Technique!
A massive wooden dragon surged from the newly born forest, lifting Kitazawa high into the air as it charged after Obito.
Obito was already somewhat frantic.
No matter how he accelerated, the ever-growing forest was right on his heels.
It felt as if death itself were hunting him.
Terrifying pressure bore down on him like a mountain.
Time slipped away, second by second.
"Aaaah!"
Unable to bear the encroaching dread, Obito let out a hysterical roar.
"One minute left," Kitazawa’s voice echoed.
Obito instinctively turned his head.
What greeted his eyes was an enormous Wood Dragon bearing down on him, with Kitazawa standing atop its head.
Compared to the dragon’s size, Kitazawa looked as small as an ant, yet in that moment he was like a Shinigami, radiating suffocating killing intent.
"No! Running like this is pointless!
Obito gritted his teeth and vanished from sight.
Whenever he launched an attack, he would cancel his intangibility and become solid, leaving himself open to Kitazawa’s counterattack.
But today, he had brought the Uchiha war fan.
If he could just use it to block Kitazawa’s strike, he might land a successful sneak attack.
"A futile effort."
With his Byakugan, Kitazawa saw Obito appear behind him.
Having learned from the previous ambush, Kitazawa didn’t close in this time. Instead, he kept his distance and unleashed Wood Release: Hell Forest.
Several giant trees erupted around him, spiraling upward as they moved to crush him.
Sage Art: White Shock Technique!
Kitazawa didn’t move from his spot as a red dragon of light manifested out of thin air.
It merged into a dragon orb, which detonated the next instant.
Blinding light and invisible sound waves exploded outward in all directions.
"Aaaah!"
Obito screamed.
His vision went completely dark.
He couldn’t hear anything, and searing pain tore through his entire body.
He never imagined he would be overwhelmed so instantly.
The plan he’d just devised became a joke in the face of absolute power.
Kitazawa wasn’t surprised.
Even Itachi and Sasuke had struggled against the Sage Art: White Shock Technique.
At that time, Sasuke had already awakened the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan.
Even so, under the onslaught of White Shock, he hadn’t been able to maintain Susanoo.
If Itachi hadn’t used Izanami, it would’ve been hard to say whether the brothers could have defeated Kabuto.
And Obito was even worse off.
Aside from Kamui, he was far inferior to Itachi and Sasuke in every way.
In short, he was simply too weak.
With a flicker, Kitazawa appeared in front of Obito.
Without hesitation, he reached for Obito’s Mangekyo Sharingan.
Blood splattered in an instant as Kitazawa used chakra to extract the eye.
"My eye!"
Obito’s scream was even more anguished.
Kitazawa casually sealed the Mangekyo Sharingan into a storage scroll.
As for how to use it, he hadn’t decided.
He would soon obtain Kamui as a system reward anyway, so he didn’t actually need this eye.
Give it to Kakashi?
With double Kamui, Kakashi’s strength would skyrocket.
The problem was his chakra.
One Mangekyo already pushed Kakashi to his limits; two would kill him.
Still, it wasn’t unsolvable.
For example, making him a Jinchuriki.
Kitazawa glanced at the still-screaming Obito, then drew Zangetsu and swung.
Obito’s scream cut off abruptly.
His head flew from his shoulders, blood gushing from the severed neck.
Kitazawa had no interest in drawn-out torture.
Besides, those five minutes of desperate flight just now had been enough for Obito to taste real fear and pain before dying.
Canceling Wood Release: Deep Forest Emergence and the Wood Dragon Technique, Kitazawa paused for a moment, then stored Obito’s corpse.
That was to prevent anyone from resurrecting him.
Using the Flying Thunder God, Kitazawa returned to Konan.
Seeing him, Konan finally relaxed.
"He’s dead. You don’t have to worry anymore," Kitazawa said with a smile.
"Mhm."
Konan nodded, then sank into a daze.
In less than two days, her entire life had been overturned.
From a core member of Akatsuki, she was now a shinobi of Konoha.
Not just her—Nagato and Akatsuki had all been turned upside down.
The changes had come so quickly she could barely keep up.
"What are you thinking about?"
Kitazawa reached out and gently stroked her cheek.
"I’m just... not used to it," Konan admitted.
"That’s normal," Kitazawa said with a small smile, easily guessing her thoughts. "You’ll get used to it with time."
Konan held his hand, feeling a sense of peace.
At the very least, Kitazawa was someone she could rely on.
"Let’s go back to Konoha."
With that, Kitazawa activated the Flying Thunder God Technique.
The two reappeared in front of Tsunade and the others.
"Nagato just explained Akatsuki’s situation and the Eye of the Moon Plan," Tsunade said, looking at Kitazawa. "So, was that so-called Uchiha Madara captured?"
"I killed him," Kitazawa said after a brief pause. "I’ll tell you the details later."
Kakashi was also present.
Kitazawa had no intention of telling him the whole truth.
It would only add to Kakashi’s pain and accomplish nothing.
Better to let him live on with his beautiful memories of Obito.
That would be kinder.
"All right then."
Tsunade nodded.
In the ninja world, even corpses could speak.
Whether that "Uchiha Madara" was alive or dead didn’t make much difference.
"Kitazawa."
Jiraiya stepped forward, concern in his eyes. "How do you plan to deal with Nagato and Konan?"
"Do you have any suggestions?" Kitazawa asked in return.
"I think they can join Konoha and atone through service," Jiraiya replied immediately.
He had three reasons.
First, Nagato and Konan were his students.
Even though they hadn’t seen each other for years, the teacher-student bond was important in the ninja world. He still cared about them.
Second, although Akatsuki had become the enemy of the ninja world, they hadn’t actually caused Konoha any losses here.
Unlike in the original timeline, they hadn’t killed Jiraiya or destroyed Konoha.
Third was what Nagato had just shared about Akatsuki and the Eye of the Moon Plan.
As a Konoha elder, Jiraiya instantly saw the problems.
Whether it was Nagato’s parents’ deaths or Yahiko’s death, everything seemed to have been orchestrated by that "Uchiha Madara."
His true goal was to have Nagato gather the nine Tailed Beasts, activate the Eye of the Moon Plan, and trap everyone in Infinite Tsukuyomi.
From that perspective, Nagato’s path had been twisted by manipulation.
"Let them enter Anbu first and be monitored there," Kitazawa said after a moment’s thought. "Tsunade-sensei, what do you think?"
"You’re the Hokage now. You decide," Tsunade replied casually.
As long as Konoha was safe, she had no objections.
"Nagato," Kitazawa said, turning to him. "From today, the Gedo Statue belongs to Konoha."
"That’s fine, but..."
Nagato trailed off, his eyes suddenly widening.
He’d just felt his connection to the Gedo statue severed.
That meant a Rinnegan user stronger than him had forcibly taken control.
Nagato instinctively looked at Kitazawa.
Right after Kitazawa declared the Gedo Statue Konoha’s property, the connection had been cut.
Could it be that he possessed the Rinnegan?
A storm raged in Nagato’s heart.
That would mean Kitazawa hadn’t even gone all out when they fought.
"What’s wrong, Nagato?" Jiraiya asked, puzzled.
"No... it’s nothing."
Suppressing his shock, Nagato looked at Kitazawa and said, "You defeated me, so the Gedo Statue is yours."
"Haru," Kitazawa ordered, "take them to Konoha Hospital first."
Nagato had just gone through two intense battles; his body was already at its limit.
Fortunately, Kitazawa had seized the Gedo statue’s control in time.
Without that burden, Nagato’s body could slowly recover, though it would take quite a while.
"Yes, Hokage-sama."
Haru and three Anbu operatives appeared and escorted Nagato and Konan toward the hospital.
"Everyone, you’ve worked hard. Now that Akatsuki has been dealt with, you can return and rest," Kitazawa said to Fugaku and the others.
"Yes, Hokage-sama!"
Fugaku and the others replied at once.
"You all go back too."
Kitazawa ruffled Hinata’s hair as he spoke to Sasuke and the rest.
After they left, only Hiruzen, Jiraiya, Tsunade, Shizune, and Kurenai remained.
"This is that so-called Uchiha Madara," Kitazawa said, producing Obito’s body. "He was also the mysterious masked man who caused the Nine-Tails rampage."
"He looks a bit familiar," Tsunade murmured, slightly taken aback.
"Obito?!"
Jiraiya recognized him immediately. He had seen him many times as his student’s student.
"He’s Obito? How is that possible?" Shizune exclaimed. "If he’s Obito, doesn’t that mean he killed his own teacher with his own hands?"
"Truly ungrateful," Hiruzen muttered, frowning.
