Chapter 343: Drama and annoying
"You!" The young man’s voice thundered through the room as he sprang to his feet. "Mother, he is the same man who killed my Hollow!"
Silence descended upon the room.
Luke rolled his eyes and glanced toward Dart, who stood there looking utterly startled. Baldon and Thea were no better, their expressions betraying the fact that neither had expected an accusation to be thrown at him so abruptly.
"You..." The lady slowly rose from her seat. Her gaze settled on Luke, sharp with disbelief and anger. "You killed my son’s beast? The pride of our family?"
Luke merely shrugged. "I consider no hunt different from another. That wolf happened to be preying on me."
"That’s a lie!" Virj shouted. "Hollow never attacked anyone! He was only catching butterflies. You saw his beautiful fur and decided to hunt him down!"
The accusation was beginning to wear Luke’s patience thin. His brows drew together, and the subtle shift in his expression was enough for Baldon to realize that things were about to get out of hand.
Baldon immediately rose from his seat.
"We will catch you a bigger wolf, little lord."
"I don’t want your dogs!" Virj snapped. "I want my Hollow! And that bastard killed what was mine!"
Luke’s eyes turned frosty.
Instantly, four guards stepped into the room.
The temperature seemed to drop several degrees as an oppressive presence radiated from Luke. Virj fell completely silent, his eyes widening as his face turned pale beneath the weight of that suffocating pressure.
"What now?" the lady suddenly demanded, pulling her son tightly into her arms. "Are you going to harm him as well? Is this how you welcome your guests?"
Her accusing gaze shifted toward Baldon, causing the man to lick his lips anxiously.
Just then, Kalish rose to his feet and looked at Luke.
"Did you really kill his wolf?"
Luke nodded. "Yeah."
He was growing tired of the endless questions. His eyes had already swept across the room, taking note of every person present. His dagger was only a command away from appearing in his hand.
As he had expected, dealing with people who considered themselves superior to everyone else was already becoming a headache.
If only he had told Gary or Baldon what happened in the forest, he wouldn’t have been standing here in the middle of this ridiculous drama.
Just then, another voice broke through the silence, drawing everyone’s attention.
"Are we really fussing over a mere wolf now?"
The guards immediately stepped aside and lowered their heads as a certain woman entered the house.
Unlike before, she no longer concealed herself beneath layers of fabric, allowing Luke to finally see her clearly.
Her long silver hair flowed gracefully down to her waist, framing a face of breathtaking beauty. Her slender figure carried an effortless elegance, accentuated by a naturally curved waist that gave her an alluring yet refined presence.
Her vivid green eyes were perhaps the most striking feature of all. They held a quiet, otherworldly charm that seemed almost to glow beneath the light.
Every feature appeared almost impossibly perfect, making her beauty difficult for even Luke to ignore.
"You are finally here, huh?" Mara said, narrowing her eyes. "What do you have to say about this situation?"
The girl was evidently their daughter, and the brat’s sister.
’Talk about being a natural charmer.’
Luke couldn’t help staring at her for a moment. She couldn’t have been older than twenty, yet the warriors lowered their heads the instant she appeared. There was an authority in her presence that commanded respect, almost as though she had been leading warriors for decades.
"What do you want to hear?" the girl asked calmly. "I saw his pup wandering around, moving closer to the hunter before darting away in fright. He pursued it and hunted it down."
Kalish hummed thoughtfully. "So the wolf approached him first?"
The girl shrugged. "Does it even matter, Father? If you encounter a dire wolf, you hunt it. You don’t stop to find out who its master is."
Mara clicked her tongue. "That wolf had been with your brother since childhood. Show your brother at least a little compassion."
The girl rolled her eyes, earning a faint smile from Luke.
"Enough," Kalish said, his voice carrying enough authority to silence the room. "It wasn’t Luke’s fault, and I don’t want to hear Virj complain about it anymore."
The little man’s eyes welled with tears as he glared at his sister before shifting his resentful gaze toward Luke.
"If that’s all, should I leave, Chief?" Luke asked, turning toward Baldon. He had endured enough drama for one day.
Baldon understood that Luke’s continued presence would only keep provoking the two in the room, so he nodded.
"Yes. You may go."
"Wait."
The girl suddenly turned toward Luke.
"I’ve been looking for someone who could show me around the village. Since you’re a hunter yourself, perhaps you could help me find a few places."
Luke shrugged. "Not much worth seeing, if you ask me."
The girl smiled faintly at that, her eyes never leaving him.
"Aah... what are you even saying, Luke? There’s the ancestral wooden house, the market, the fields... so many places to see. Go and show her around."
Luke sighed. "Fine. But I won’t be able to bring you back, so take a guard with you for safety."
"I won’t be needing anyone."
She said it firmly, cutting off the guards who had already begun debating among themselves over who would accompany them.
Then she turned toward Luke, her expression composed yet faintly expectant.
"Now, then. Shall we go?"
Luke shrugged. "Sure."
The two of them left together, completely unaware of the gaze Thea was directing at Luke.
Throughout their entire exchange, Luke hadn’t spared her a single glance.
She couldn’t help but pout inwardly, silently complaining about being completely ignored.
’I will have Roxanne know that you, after all, prefer someone younger. Hmph!’
