Nozomanu Fushi no Boukensha

Episode 162: Lower Vampires and Book Bugs

Return home from the Latour family and head to the orphanage with Lorraine, who was home.

"... yes, Laura Latour said I could take Lorraine next time"

As we walked together down the road to the orphanage, Lorraine said so, with a surprised face,

"... okay? From what I've heard from you about your client, he was somewhat powerful, but he felt like he was standing in a hidden position..."

Lorraine naturally knows almost everything about the houses involved in running this city, but still only the Latour family has never heard of it and doesn't.

The only way to determine what kind of house, what kind of person you have and what kind of thoughts you have is by hearsay from me.

For once, I seem to have tried to find out, but it means I didn't know anything.

Does the Latour family have great power, or does it not have the kind of insides to look into in the first place...

As far as that house, the owner himself and Isaac are concerned, I don't think the latter possibility seems to be there.

The more I think about it, the more unusual it is... but from me it is a very friendly house.

Nothing. That's all right, right?

... isn't it good?

But it is also true that there is no need to be vigilant.

Anyway, speaking of what I've been made into now, he's made a good request for it, and he's given me something I like, and he's even prepared materials that might be useful for it next time he says he has business.

Not to the detriment of one thing.

I can't even think that you're doing that to me for some purpose... but lately, I've been trying my best to come here as an adventurer, but in the end I'm just a copper adventurer.

It is undoubtedly a fairly rare being with human detached physical abilities as demons and magic, chi and holy spirits that have come to a practical level, but it would still be well and silver-class if only assessed purely for strength.

Such an adventurer is naturally enough to throw up in this world and throw it away, and there's no need to dare put it on me in that house.

If you insist, if it's for a purpose like Niv... if you're saying you want me as a vampire "vampire" you'd already be captured.

I didn't see Isaac's strength with this eye, but he's single, and he's the owner of the skill to attack that Talask Swamp on a regular basis.

It would be more natural to think that I would lose if I fought properly.

And Isaac is the only one with all that financial power, because it's hard to think, and then it'll be easy enough to capture me.

And then I can't even think that you're trying to reach some purpose by letting me swim... but what the hell is it gonna be like letting me swim?

I guess nothing will happen.

Being is peculiar, but all you're doing is going to the labyrinth, hunting and delivering demons and repeating...

Sometimes you think you're walking at night.

It would be quicker to do it yourself if there was a purpose to be made to accomplish that.

I mean, I don't think so. Probably.

When that happens, I guess the only reason Laura makes it so much better for me is because, honestly, it's hard to secure the people who can go to Talask Marsh, as she declared.

It is an understandable, convincing and extremely normal purpose.

It didn't seem like anything that gave me was worth that much to Laura...

You're such a good man. Yeah.

"I think it's more of a quiet life than a hiding place. I'm not hustling about existence, but I'm not hiding it."

When I said that to Lorraine, she looked like she was having a hard time.

"... there's hardly anything out there to look into for it..."

"Almost? Did something come up?"

"Ah. I found the name on the council's old minutes. Indeed, it seems to be involved in the operation of the city. But lately... or it's been like nothing has happened in the last hundred years."

"... you've been able to browse that stuff a lot"

The Malt Council is an institution sponsored by the Lords and running Malt, where the House of Malt's Power is producing councillors.

Speaking of those minutes, it's not like the general public telling me to show them to you.

And yet Lorraine...

"Now there's quite a connection. Well, he asked me to formulate some medication... but it's not a big deal."

It's a consideration.

Many of the medicines Lorraine makes using alchemy are very effective, and I guess she asked someone she knew about it.

Even though Lorraine has a variety of skills, she only wholesales common to city pharmacists and Adventurers' Unions (guilds).

Something special has to be negotiated directly with the person, but Lorraine is the first person in her research.

There are few things that you don't do that you've been asked to do.

This is the only time I can ask for it.

"Art doesn't help me, but it's handy at times like this... I should have worn alchemy, too"

That was the dialogue I followed, thinking that I wouldn't have had to be so distressed when I was a bronze adventurer, but Lorraine shook her head and

"You'll remember now, but you were decidedly short of magic before... I wouldn't have been able to"

I've been told.

Well, I knew that well enough from then on.

That's why I didn't learn even if I had an alchemy master nearby.

Alchemy is not always impossible without magic, but there is a minimum amount of magic required to make money from it.

If I used the Demon Stone every time to make up for my magic, my money and time would get worse and worse.

If that's enough to do, it's usually more efficient to hunt and deliver demons.

"So? Why are you inviting me again, that Laura?"

Lorraine came back and asked me that, so I answer.

"Oh, when I went earlier, when I said I was going to find out what my source of holiness was - the divine spirit who gave me protection, you lent me all kinds of materials for that."

"Hmm? When I say material, it's a book. I don't have much around here because I don't specialize..."

It wasn't at all, but Lorraine only had materials that were normally in general circulation, especially those that hadn't stepped into the secrets of the Church.

But what Laura lent me is more like that, something with a lot of knowledge that shouldn't be out there.

... I wonder why you have it?

It's too strange...... but I don't know what to think.

In the meantime, tell Lorraine.

"Ah. So, where the material is, this is already the sight of an amazing library... with an extended bookshelf in a vast space. The walls are also bookshelves all the way from the floor to the high ceiling. All the books that were delivered seemed precious."

Then Lorraine changed her blood phase,

"hey what... what if you say you invite me...!?

"Oh. I wanted to bring a friend because he likes books, and I said," Mr. Lorraine, that's fine, here I come. "

"You... you're handy. Now I can lick your shoes."

And I say stop it for now because it's something you say with a serious face, not a joke.

Then Lorraine calms down and says again.

"... but a friend, I didn't know my name would come up just because I said so. Nothing, you didn't tell me, did you?

"That's right..."

This is strange, or evidence of having considerable intelligence-gathering capability.

It's odd that a house like that would be interested in me after all...

Did Lorraine think so too?

"I think it's a wonderful house around providing me with books, but it still doesn't seem like a reassuring and good person"

say.

Still, it was Lorraine who was completely distracted by the book around the time she had decided to go to the Latour family.
