Chapter 576: The Goddess of Death’s Cross-Dimensional Pursuit
He had absolutely no time to distinguish friend from foe.
The repulsor in his palm rapidly charged.
"Hey, giant horned lizard."
"New York doesn’t charge boarding fees for alien pets."
BOOM!
Two scorching repulsor blasts slammed ruthlessly into Kaido’s broad chest.
Kaido’s massive body merely swayed.
He glanced down at the shallow scorch marks blasted into his chest, then raised those violent, bloodthirsty eyes toward the iron man hovering in the sky.
"Flying tin can."
"Do you want to die first!?"
Tony jerked to a halt in mid-air.
"The big guy can talk."
"Well, this just officially became a nightmare."
With a grunt of pure annoyance, Kaido reached out and snatched the severed steel tailbone of a Leviathan, swinging it like a colossal whip and violently lashing it toward the sky.
Tony hit the thrusters, dodging by a hair. The massive tailbone roared past his armor, carrying enough momentum to smash three Chitauri chariots right out of the air.
Thor hurriedly rushed into the ruined intersection, screaming up at the sky.
"Stop!"
"That big guy is practically half an ally right now!"
Hearing the familiar voice, Tony’s HUD instantly locked onto Thor down below.
"Mr. Shakespeare?"
"Why did you bring another super monster to Earth?"
Thor roared back in fury.
"I didn’t bring this monster!"
Loki stood silently behind him, his face dark.
Tony’s gaze quickly shifted to the God of Mischief. A full second of silence hung in the comms channel.
"Alright, I think I know who did this."
Loki raised a finger toward Tony, his eyes ice-cold.
"Shut up, Midgardian."
On the other side of the battlefield.
Steve Rogers—WWII legend and tactical leader of the Avengers—was braving heavy artillery fire to lead the NYPD in a frantic civilian evacuation.
He raised his gleaming shield to block a Chitauri energy blast, forcefully shoving a crying child toward the safety corridor.
Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff, flipped cleanly off the roof of a car.
She had just raised her pistols to execute two Chitauri soldiers with pinpoint precision when she looked up in horror. Falling from that blue rift, one after another, was a terrifying wave of undead wreathed in black armor.
Those monsters were definitely not Chitauri.
Eerie green fire burned in their hollow eye sockets. They gripped death-infused black spears, and the moment they hit the ground, they lunged like rabid dogs toward the unarmed civilians on the street without a second of hesitation.
Natasha’s expression darkened instantly.
"Captain."
"These new monsters definitely aren’t Chitauri."
Atop an abandoned city bus, Clint Barton drew his bowstring back to a full moon. His razor-sharp arrowheads darted between the undead knights and the Chitauri soldiers.
"They look even worse than the aliens."
Captain America didn’t waste a single breath on pointless chatter.
He charged forward with his shield raised, brutally smashing it into the pale arm of a Berserker, snapping the bone cleanly in two.
Yet, the severed skeletal arm dropped to the asphalt and bizarrely continued to crawl forward.
The undead knight, knocked back by the tremendous force, instantly stood up with tireless determination. Its black spear thrust toward the Captain’s throat like a viper.
Cap gritted his teeth, desperately blocking with his shield. His superhuman body was rocked back two consecutive steps by the impact.
"Natasha."
"Normal bullets are completely useless against these undead."
Natasha laid down continuous suppressive fire, accurately shattering the kneecap of a charging undead. Her voice was ice-cold.
"I can see that."
Hawkeye decisively released a specialized explosive arrow.
A blinding flash erupted, and three Berserkers were instantly blown into a shower of bone fragments.
But drawn by that eerie green fire, the shattered bones rapidly began to knit back together.
Hawkeye’s face completely changed.
"This is just cheating."
High in the sky, a furious Hulk grabbed a Chitauri chariot and slammed it mercilessly into the asphalt.
Just as he raised his head, he happened to see Kaido violently punch through the steel jaw of a Leviathan.
Separated by half a ruined street, the two pure powerhouse monsters locked eyes.
Hulk threw his arms wide and let out an earth-shattering roar.
Not to be outdone, Kaido roared back with equal berserk ferocity.
Tony immediately shouted a warning through the comms.
"Listen up, everyone, whatever you do, do not let our big green guy and that dragon fight."
"New York’s insurance companies are already completely bankrupt today."
Kaido ignored all of them.
He was having the time of his life killing everything in sight.
The Chitauri soldiers were numerous enough, the Leviathans were massive enough, and the streets of New York were wide enough to accommodate the carnage.
Their firepower was mediocre, but their endless numbers made up for it.
He swung his iron fist, smashing a chariot out of the sky, then followed up by brutally stomping on the skull of a Berserker.
The undead’s shattered bones writhed on the ground, struggling to reform.
Kaido glanced down with contempt. His raised right foot instantly wrapped in dark-red Conqueror’s Haki before stomping down with earth-shattering force.
Violent black-and-red lightning exploded across the pavement.
The undead’s rigid skeleton was pulverized into ultra-fine dust, and that eerie green fire was entirely extinguished by the overwhelming pressure of his Haki.
Witnessing this with his own eyes, Captain America finally let out half a breath of relief.
"That biggest guy can kill them completely."
Natasha stared at Kaido—covered in blood and jagged scales—her tone completely objective.
"The problem is, he looks like he’d be perfectly happy to kill us along with them."
Thor charged up beside Kaido, using a berserk lightning-infused punch to shatter a massive swathe of Berserkers.
"Kaido!"
"We have to find a way back to Asgard immediately!"
Kaido casually shook the undead bone dust off his hands, turning to glare at him with absolute malice.
"What the hell are you rushing for!?"
"That crazy sister of yours will be chasing us here soon enough!"
Thor was completely enraged.
"That is exactly the deadliest problem!"
But Kaido just threw his head back and laughed maniacally.
"Perfect."
"I haven’t even warmed up these bones yet!"
Loki stood by the street side, his face deathly pale. Both hands pressed desperately against the Tesseract as he frantically tried to re-establish the spatial coordinates for Asgard.
Blue light flickered violently in the air.
Yet, time and time again, the coordinates were forcefully wrenched away by an irresistible power.
He finally saw it clearly.
In the deepest depths of the blue light hovered the suffocatingly massive shadow of a black warship.
Sanctuary II.
The supreme flagship of Thanos.
Loki’s breathing instantly unraveled.
This wasn’t simple spatial energy interference.
Someone was using the Tesseract’s spatial fluctuations to ruthlessly track him down.
And they were tracking this completely out-of-control cosmic rift at the same time.
Thor keenly noticed Loki’s expression of utter terror.
"What stupid thing did you do now!?"
Loki stiffly raised his head, his eyes losing their usual sarcasm and cunning for the first time.
"It wasn’t me."
"I really didn’t do this."
"Someone ten thousand times more terrifying than Hela might have their eyes on this door, too."
Thor’s heart violently sank.
Before he could demand answers, an incredibly cold, soft chuckle echoed from the other end of the spatial rift.
The laugh wasn’t loud, but it eerily overpowered the deafening roar of artillery fire tearing across the New York sky.
Hela’s voice, dripping with the suffocating pressure of death, drifted slowly from the blue light.
"Fleeing to Midgard like stray dogs?"
"You truly disappoint your King."
"Thor. And Loki."
"Did you naively think that by escaping to another world, you could hide from the true master of Asgard!?"
