Chapter 495: Using Soul Chains, End of Divine Academy
Dominik’s attack carried all the strength the god could currently exert through his vessel, and Leon immediately moved to avoid it.
He dodged the punch and swung his sword, cutting through Dominik’s arm before the chairman could launch another attack.
However, the severed limb barely had time to fall before it began regenerating, with the faint mist gathering around the wound and restoring the damaged body.
Within moments, Dominik’s arm had returned to normal.
Leon frowned as he watched the regeneration, realizing that the God of War could continue repairing the vessel no matter how much damage he inflicted.
’Dominik is already dead. The God of War is simply using him as a vessel to keep fighting.’
Leon attempted to use several of his skills, striking Dominik’s body repeatedly in an effort to determine whether there was any limit to the god’s regeneration.
His attacks cut through the chairman’s chest, shoulders, and legs, but each wound healed almost immediately, leaving Dominik’s body practically unharmed.
"You cannot kill me, human," the God of War declared. "But it seems like this body isn’t enough to kill you either. But if you leave this chamber, I will chase your companions and kill them."
Leon tightened his grip around his sword.
"And if you ever make one mistake..." Dominik’s body smiled. "I’ll get rid of you."
’But what can I do? None of my magic skills work, and the physical ones don’t do any real damage.’
The Zero-Magic Zone was still active, preventing Leon from using most of his magic-based abilities.
His physical attacks could damage Dominik’s body, but the God of War would simply regenerate it, making it impossible to win through ordinary means.
However, Leon couldn’t help but find the situation strange.
He was directly communicating with the God of War, something he had never experienced before.
Even the God of Eternity in his previous life had only watched him from the sky, remaining far away from the world below.
Now, however, he was standing directly in front of a vessel controlled by a god, and he could clearly sense the presence within it.
’But that’s not the strength of the God of War.’
If the God of War were capable of using his full power, there would be no reason for him to rely on Dominik’s body.
He could simply unleash an attack powerful enough to annihilate this entire Higher Domain, killing everyone and destroying everything within it.
However, Leon believed that doing so would result in the Heavenly One intervening and killing him as punishment.
That was likely why the God of War had resorted to using Dominik as a vessel, some sort "loophole" to the rules.
"COME ON!" the God of War roared through Dominik’s body. "SHOW ME WHAT YOU CAN DO!"
Dominik charged toward Leon again, throwing another punch with enough force to shake the air around them.
Leon deflected the attack with his sword effortlessly, redirecting the blow before it could reach him, and quickly glanced through his skill list.
’Wait a minute.’
There was one skill he hadn’t properly tested yet.
As Dominik prepared to attack again, Leon waited until the chairman was close enough before activating it.
And...
SOUL CHAINS!
[Soul Chains (Divine): Using the power of your soul, summon up to three chains that can do whatever you wish them to do. These chains can bind, restrain, block attacks, or even tear through your enemies with the power of your soul behind them. They are as fragile as their user’s soul, but their strength is unmatched when wielded by a powerful one.]
Two chains suddenly erupted from the ground behind Dominik, shooting forward before wrapping themselves around his body.
The chains tightened immediately, locking his arms and legs in place and stopping him from moving any further.
Dominik struggled against them, attempting to break free through sheer strength, but the chains held firm.
"Is this it?"
Leon carefully observed the restrained figure, trying to understand the effect of his skill.
Since Leon’s soul was fully maxxed out, it meant that the chains were unbelievably powerful as well.
Basically, Dominik’s body couldn’t escape no matter what.
The crimson color in his eyes was contrasting with the dark pupils that stared directly at Leon.
"If I could act, you and this entire city would be disintegrated in an instant," the God of War declared angrily.
"And yet you can’t," Leon smiled as he continued examining the chains.
And at that moment, his eyes widened slightly as he understood.
"Well, no matter," the God of War replied. "You have no way of defeating me, so the two of us will stay in this chamber... forever."
But Leon simply shook his head as a response.
There were three types of attacks in Eternal Ascension.
The first were physical attacks, which relied on physical strength and could also include certain elemental abilities without being considered magic.
The second were magical attacks, which consisted of spells and abilities that required magic to function.
The third type, however, was different from both.
Soul attacks were abilities that used the soul to be cast OR could directly target an opponent’s soul.
Leon hadn’t fully understood this distinction before, but he could now sense that Soul Chains belonged to this third category.
It was a soul attack. And that meant he might finally have a way to defeat the God of War’s vessel.
Leon focused on a third chain, directing it toward Dominik’s body before making it pierce directly through his chest.
The chain passed through the physical form and reached the soul within, allowing Leon to target something that the God of War’s regeneration couldn’t simply restore.
"Oh," the God of War muttered as he realized what Leon was doing, "I see."
Leon concentrated on the chain as it wrapped itself around Dominik’s soul. I
f he could destroy it, the connection between the chairman and the God of War would disappear, leaving the god without a vessel through which to continue fighting.
The God of War seemed to understand the danger, and the faint mist surrounding Dominik began to fluctuate as he attempted to resist.
"Well, human, I saw what you can do now, I have witnessed the extent of your strength."
"And let me tell you something," the God of War roared. "If you ever step into the Eternal Domain... we will annihilate you."
CRACK!
Leon tightened the soul chain around Dominik’s soul, causing the first cracks to appear across its surface.
The chairman’s body shuddered as the chain continued to tighten, and the crimson glow in his eyes began to flicker.
Then, with one final surge of power, the soul chain tightened completely, shattering his soul for good.
BOOM!
The glow in Dominik’s eyes faded, and his body fell to the ground.
The faint mist surrounding him disappeared, and the overwhelming presence that had filled the chamber vanished along with it.
Leon remained still for a moment, watching the chairman’s body.
Ding!
[You have killed "Divine Academy Chairman, Dominik" and gained...]
[100% Drop Rate has triggered...]
He looked at the notification, finally confirming that the system had recognized Dominik’s death.
And just like that, Leon had defeated his very first group of servants of the gods.
"One down... several hundreds to go."
...
A/N
Well, I hope I did good with this battle, this was the very first "REAL" interaction with one of the gods Leon had in this life, and from there on, as he is getting closer to the Eternal Battlefield and Eternal Domain, these moments will become even more present, as the gods know that Leon exist now.
