Chapter 122: Jokes Worth It
The next morning, Ayra sat down in her room by the bed, feeding the cub a soup from the kitchen.
She guessed the rabbit chef had gotten so much better in cooking baby food from her instructions. She felt proud for his improvement as she watched Ally enjoy the food.
Commander Lynn on the other hand stood before her. He stood with a firm expression like a soldier guarding the president or something. He had been there since the morning when she woke up.
While Ayra fed the cub, she couldn’t help but recall the beastmen from the other day. "I wonder what those beastmen are up to...?" She asked, looking around. "Did they give up on trying to gather the ingredients already?"
She thought as she stared up at Commander Lynn. "What do you think?"
Commander Lynn hesitated before he replied, "I think they’re still gathering the ingredients..."
She slowly nodded. "I see..." While Ayra was sitting there, her system beeped.
[Ding]
[Host, Quick notice!]
[Host is running out of soaps! Host should quickly refill soap so you’ll have a consistent beauty streak bathe!]
Ayra blinked, staring at the system. She guessed her own soap was really running out and she didn’t have any task at hand to refill it.
Ayra wondered if the local soap she was making would be suitable for use as well. If so, then she guessed that would be better.
[No, Host. You can’t use the locally made soap for yourself]
[It doesn’t improve your beauty at all. Host needs soaps and body creams provided by the system itself]
"..." She sighed as she stared at the system, speechless. She guessed the system really didn’t want to run out of business.
She shook her head as she asked the system, "So what do I do?"
[Task at hand: To get more soaps, host should increase Commander Lynn’s affection level]
[To increase Commander Lynn’s affection level, Host should make the wolf smile or laugh]
[Achieving this as earlier said increases the Wolf’s affection level greatly!]
[Host should increase his affection level by 10% to at least get some restocked soaps]
As the system explained, Ayra sighed. She guessed the system really was using her own words against her.
She slowly nodded as she stared at Commander Lynn who was standing before her with a firm expression. It was clear that he wasn’t in the mood to smile or laugh at all!
She had to at least think of something to make this big cold wolf smile if she wanted to continue taking her beauty bath.
While Ayra continued feeding her cub, she thought of something. Anything. She had to make him smile or something. And at that moment, she could only come up with something.
She looked up at Commander Lynn as she asked, "Hey, Wolfie, do you want to hear some jokes?"
Commander Lynn said, "My name is not Wolfie though..."
"I know. But do you want to hear some jokes?"
The wolf hesitated with a nod, both arms folded and his expression still cold and unreadable. "Feel free to say whatever you want. I’ll be listening."
Ayra smiled as she cracked her brain to think of all the possible jokes she could use on him.
"Okay.. the first one: Do you know what the fish said to the hunter after escaping?"
"..." Commander Lynn stared without a response.
"Water you going to do!" Ayra responded happily with a broad smile while staring at the wolf.
She almost laughed at her own joke, but meeting Commander Lynn’s face, she had realized that he wasn’t laughing at all.
Commander Lynn’s expression still firm and cold while staring at Ayra. She doubted that he even understood. "Did you get it?"
He shook his head.
"..." She was speechless.
She thought hard again. "Okay.. another one. Why don’t bears get lost on the way?"
"..."
Ayra smiled. "Because they always bear the way!" She happily announced with a smile while staring at the wolf.
But there was a very loud silence. Commander Lynn stared at her without saying anything. He didn’t understand as well.
And immediately, Ayra gasped, speechless. Her smile faded into the loud silence.
"Oh..." Then came the sound of the cub in the awkward silence as shame ate up Ayra.
She knew she was terrible at telling jokes, but this wolf really made it impossible to accomplish this task at all.
She shook her head as she said, "Should I just give up and forget about my beauty bath?"
Just then, Rai and his peers made their way into the room.
"Ayra! Ally!" Rai happily called as they came to sit down on the floor before the female.
"We missed you two!" Kan happily said while staring at the cub who was done eating.
Ally stared down at them, catching their familiar faces while she smiled profusely at them. The cub stretched out her hand at them while Rai held her tiny finger in his hand.
"How are you feeling today, Ayra?" Rai asked as Ayra nodded with a smile.
"I’m fine. Thanks. And you?" She asked them.
They all sighed as they said, "Stressed! We had some training from early morning so we couldn’t even come and see you," Kan explained.
Rai turned to Commander Lynn who was standing behind. "And it was all brother’s doing. He made us practice all morning."
Ayra smiled as she shook her head. "Is that so?"
They nodded as they turned to the cub with a smile.
"And we heard from some people that the cub can speak now?!" Rai instantly asked, overly excited.
"Yes yes we also heard that! Can the cub really speak?!" Kan asked as they leaned closer to the cub.
Ayra nodded with a smile as she said, "Yes. The cub is learning how to speak really fast. So remember to say nice words around Ally so she doesn’t learn everything."
"Oh..." The teen beastmen nodded profusely as they stared at the cub.
"Can we play with the cub around here in the room? We promise to teach the cub only good words?" Rai requested.
Ayra stared at Rai as she said with a smile, "Okay. But only under one condition."
