Chapter 239 - 240: Sacrifice’s
Of course, the voice was just a fodder too... a higher fodder at that, and they were the reason why there was race trafficking and slavery all over the planes and domains that were stuck in the Crucible.
"I know, but who is that insect you are talking about?"
"No, we don’t know..."
"Fuck... what kind of answer is that? How am I supposed to find a man that’s not even someone you recognize?!" His anger issues came knocking again.
What was the point of saying that shit when the voice didn’t even know who it was trying to find? There were billions of humans in the human domain, and it was like finding a single grain of sand in the vast dunes.
"We are not sure, but he is from the same race as you are."
"That’s not even helping! How about a hint or the familiarity of the wanted man?"
"Hmm, well, it was said that he was traveling with women..."
"FUCK!!! SO IT’S YOU!!!" The man was not dumb; he wouldn’t take the seat of the family head if he were dumb.
"Hmm, did you find something? If you know, I will reward you handsomely... heh, I know you lack the power right now to overturn the seat, so say whatever you want."
"Ohh, I don’t even know for sure yet... but maybe I know who that fucker who escaped is..."
"Then don’t make me wait! Just fucking say it, you’re wasting my time!" The voice was clearly irritated.
He was burning heavy resources right now just to communicate with this insect, but the man’s acts were making him want to rip his mouth open. He could just say it right away, couldn’t he?
Those shits really didn’t know... well, he didn’t know everything either, as the order was sent down by a higher entity too. He didn’t know the full details, but the massive bounty floating on that man’s head was enough to make Marquis-tier races drool... not to mention him, a mere fodder.
"Heh, so what’s the payment? I hope it’s not a disappointment." The family head saw the hint about the man. The bounty might be bigger than he thought... and that fucker was moving freely throughout the world.
Of course, the one he was talking about was Quinn, who had killed all of his people and his son. There was no other description that fit better than that: a man who had suddenly appeared out of nowhere as an anomaly, while traveling together with beautiful women. The chances might be slim, but it really fit the bill...
"Just finish the job. You know I’m not that cheap to lower my standards for an insect like you." The shadow was secretly happy; maybe he had finally struck a gold mine today.
He could finally get enough resources to trample other races. If the human insect was not joking... then he might really be lucky enough to fly up to the higher nobility.
"Okay, okay... you don’t have to worry."
"Now what are you waiting for? Bring that man to me now! Are you going to wait for eternity or what?!" The shadow couldn’t wait; the faster this was done, the better. What if the man died, or what if someone else took the chance while he delayed? A golden opportunity must be grabbed immediately.
"How about I use this now? It’s better to cause some ruckus right before I hunt that wanted man."
"Now you are talking shit. Don’t use that one—use this one instead." An object floated right in front of the family head; it looked like a pulsating, rotting ball.
"What is this?"
"Heh, don’t ask and just use it. You just need to sacrifice a handful of insects to activate that."
"Are you saying that I should use this on my own people?"
"You are not a saint. If you want your family to take the number one spot, a proper sacrifice is needed. That’s basic knowledge in this cruel world, insect."
"Tch..."
"Complaining won’t make your fame go higher. Sacrifice them and be recognized as the strongest... a perfect life for a man like you."
"Do you have an item that can bring back the dead...?" Boris wanted to redeem what had just happened; he desperately wanted to save his son...
"Fool, we are not Gods! We can’t revive the already dead! You are just wasting my time!"
"One last thing... what should I do to the one that you are looking for? Dead or alive...?"
"Obviously, it’s alive. You can play with him however you want, but leave enough so his soul doesn’t leave his body. Simple as that. Now, I have wasted enough time talking to you."
The shadow disappeared just like that, as the toll of maintaining such a projection over a vast distance was far too great.
"Keke... fucker, I will bet my entire life on this... I will kill you and skin you alive, just enough for you to stay barely alive... but before that, I need some sacrifices." He didn’t give a damn shit about the lives of the commoners; they belonged to him anyway, so it was completely normal for him to take what was his.
"Let the spark begin, as my rise to the top will start right here..."
---
Boris turned the pulsating, rotting sphere over in his palm, watching the dark veins of energy twist and writhe inside the dark shell.
A cruel, cold smile spread across his tired face as he stared down at the grand map of the Silverglade Territory laid out on the wooden table before him.
The losses he had suffered today were immense, but if this foreign entity was telling the truth, the reward for capturing the anomaly named Quinn would elevate his family far beyond the petty squabbles of the human domain.
He walked toward the balcony, looking out over the sprawling city settlement below. Thousands of innocent citizens walked through the streets, completely unaware that their own ruler had just marked them as mere fuel for his grand ambition.
"Guards!" Boris called out, his voice sharp and devoid of any remaining warmth or mercy.
Two heavily armored elites immediately burst into the room, bowing deeply before their lord.
"Yes, Family Head!"
"Gather three regiments of the city guard and seal off the lower district starting tonight,"
Boris commanded coldly, tightening his grip on the dark artifact until it let out a sickening, low thrum.
"Do not let a single soul leave the gates. Tell them it is a security lockdown to catch the assassin who killed my son."
"At once, my Lord!" The guards bowed again and scrambled to execute his orders, leaving Boris alone in his quiet, dimly lit chamber once more.
"Enjoy your little journey to the Naturehive Territory while you still can, Quinn," Boris whispered to the empty air, his eyes glowing with dark, desperate malice.
"Because by the time I catch up to you, I will make you regret ever setting foot in this world."
