Chapter 680: How Can He Be So Good at Panting?

The intensely intimate gasps, accompanied by lingering, bone-deep whispers... The man’s low, husky voice sent a paralyzing tingle straight to the bone.

The nurse hardly dared to think about it too much, but she couldn’t suppress her inner gossip. As soon as she got back, she told her colleagues in the department all about it.

"What’s so strange about that? They’re a married couple. Besides, it’s a VIP room—they can do whatever they want," her colleague said, unfazed.

The nurse couldn’t help but blush. "I’ve never heard such seductive gasps before. My God, how can a man sound like that?"

Her colleague gave her a pointed look. "Just find yourself a boyfriend with a nice voice. And let me give you some advice: don’t even think about getting any ideas about that patient. He’s a married man."

The nurse immediately rolled her eyes at her. "Of course, I know that. I was just making an observation. Is it a crime to appreciate beauty?"

"..."

The lights in the hospital room were off. Their two beds were pushed together. Chloe Reed lay with her back to him, her racing heart finally starting to calm down.

She closed her eyes, and just as she was starting to drift off, a cell phone rang.

It was her phone.

She sat up abruptly and grabbed her phone to check it.

’Who would be calling her this late?’

Then, she saw the caller ID.

It was Grandma.

Chloe Reed’s breath caught in her throat. She pressed her lips together, fighting the urge to hang up.

But she hadn’t been in touch with her grandmother for a while now, and not answering again would definitely raise suspicion.

’What should I do?’

’What am I going to do now?’

"Is it Grandma?"

Just then, Walker Grant’s voice sounded in the darkness.

Chloe quickly murmured an affirmative.

Walker Grant said, "Give me the phone. I’ll talk to her."

Chloe thought for a moment, then answered the call. She immediately placed the phone in Walker Grant’s hand, then sat beside him, her expression tense as she stared at him.

"Hello, Chloe?"

Her grandmother’s aged voice came through the phone.

"Grandma, it’s me."

Walker Grant deliberately lowered his voice, speaking slowly. "Chloe’s already asleep."

Her grandmother was stunned for a moment, clearly not expecting him to answer. After a couple of seconds, she asked, "Where are you two now?"

"Nancastle," Walker Grant replied. "Did you need her for anything, Grandma? I can wake her up for you."

"No, don’t," her grandmother said, stopping him at once. "If she’s sleeping, let her rest. It’s nothing important. I just haven’t seen her in a while and wanted to have a little chat."

Walker Grant’s tone was exceptionally gentle. "Grandma, we’ll be over in a few days."

"Good. I was just about to ask when you two were coming back." Her grandmother’s voice sounded a little more relaxed.

"Grandma, please don’t worry. I’m right here with Chloe. I would give my life to protect her. She’ll be perfectly safe," Walker Grant said, his tone incredibly solemn.

After a few seconds, the old woman replied, "Your life is precious, too. You both need to take care of yourselves. Just don’t make an old woman like me worry."

"Yes, you can rest assured." There wasn’t the slightest crack in Walker Grant’s tone. In fact, it was strangely and deeply reassuring.

"All right, it’s getting late. You should get some sleep, too. When she wakes up tomorrow, have her send me a message." Her grandmother clearly didn’t intend to chat any longer.

"Okay. You get some rest too, Grandma. Good night."

After the call ended, Walker Grant handed the phone back to her. "Chloe," he said in a comforting voice, "don’t be afraid. I’m here."
