In the days that followed, the old woman would visit the cemetery from time to time. She would say nothing, simply gazing at the youthful photo of Autumn Linton on the headstone and weeping silently.

Chloe Reed waited for her just outside the cemetery, her emotions having finally settled.

After seven days of taking the medicine Mr. Aldridge had prescribed, Chloe Reed once again coughed up black blood. This time, the blood carried a strong, putrid odor, as if she were expelling rotten tissue.

She coughed violently, and in the aftermath, she realized her voice no longer sounded as hoarse.

Chloe Reed’s expression was dazed, disbelieving. She took a sip of water to rinse her mouth, then raised her head, looked at her reflection in the mirror, and reached up to touch her throat.

"Ah."

She uttered a simple syllable and confirmed that her voice truly wasn’t as hoarse anymore.

She tried to speak, but it felt as if something was constricting her throat, preventing her from forming words smoothly.

But this was still immense progress!

Her vocal cords were recovering!

"Chloe, I heard that."

Walker Grant’s voice came from the doorway. "Your voice is almost better."

Chloe Reed turned her head, her expression one of pure, ecstatic joy as she looked at him. But then she saw the white gauze wrapped around his face and remembered he couldn’t see her elation.

She walked over, took his hand, and traced a message into his palm. ’Yes, I’m almost better, and you will be too.’

Mr. Aldridge’s prescription had worked. She decided to ask Preston Vance to help her contact Mr. Aldridge so he could examine Walker Grant as well.

Walker Grant squeezed her hand, his lips curving into a smile. "I can feel your joy, Chloe. Congratulations."

Chloe Reed then went to find Fiona Linton to show her the change in her condition.

Fiona Linton’s eyes widened slightly. "I knew it would have an unusual effect, but I never expected it to be this dramatic! Here, let me take your pulse."

She was eager to examine the current state of Chloe Reed’s body.

The two sat down on the sofa, and Fiona Linton held Chloe Reed’s wrist, concentrating intently.

After a moment, she switched to the other wrist.

After checking the pulses in both wrists, Fiona Linton broke into a wide smile. "Excellent! Just excellent! The toxins have been completely flushed out! Your vocal cords show signs of healing, too. From now on, we’ll adjust the herbal formula and acupuncture treatment to focus on their recovery. You’ll be able to speak again very soon."

Chloe Reed smiled as well. For the first time in a long time, her eyes shone brightly, lit by a spark of hope!

Fiona Linton couldn’t help but sigh in admiration. "This doctor is incredible. I’d love to meet him myself."

Chloe Reed typed on her phone to reply, "I’m planning to ask him to examine Walker Grant. You should come with us when we go."

"Oh, absolutely!"

Fiona Linton nodded emphatically, clearly delighted by the idea.

Chloe Reed then went to tell Walker Grant about her plan, but his reaction was tepid. He refused. "My eyes don’t hurt anymore. Doctor Linton’s treatment has been very helpful. I don’t need anyone else’s help."

’He knew that this Mr. Aldridge was Preston Vance’s friend.’

’Accept a favor from Preston Vance?’

’Impossible.’

A dark thought even crossed his mind: ’If it would keep her by his side, he wouldn’t mind staying blind forever.’

Chloe Reed’s expression turned exceptionally grave, and her fingers flew across the keyboard. "Walker Grant, now is not the time to be childish. Your health is what’s important. I won’t be able to stop worrying until your eyes have recovered."
