Chapter 682: Uncertain If Recovery Is Possible
Not long after drinking the medicinal soup, Chloe Reed’s throat began to feel very uncomfortable. She went straight to the restroom to cough, and ended up vomiting some black blood.
This time, Fiona Linton was watching nearby. She examined the black blood carefully, then smiled and said, "It’s the toxin. Chloe, the poison in your throat should be almost completely flushed out."
Chloe Reed’s eyes lit up. That meant she would be able to speak again soon!
’Then what about Walker Grant?’
’Does this mean he’ll be able to see again soon too?’
As if sensing Chloe Reed’s thoughts, Fiona Linton hesitated for a moment before saying, "His situation is very unique. The eyes are inherently fragile organs. I can only say that I’m doing my best. As for whether he’ll recover, I can’t make any guarantees."
After she finished, she lowered her head slightly, looking self-reproachful.
Chloe Reed’s breath hitched. She immediately picked up her phone and typed, "You’re already incredible. Because of you, we have a sliver of hope. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Just do your best."
"Mhm!"
Fiona Linton nodded. She really enjoyed being around Chloe Reed, always feeling as if a gentle strength enveloped her, making her relax without realizing it.
’At the same time, it made her resent the people who wanted to harm them even more.’
’Those are the people who should be suffering this torment, the ones who should die!’
"..."
Walker Grant heard them coming out of the restroom and immediately asked, "Is she almost better?"
Fiona Linton said, "It’s not that fast, but everything is moving in the right direction."
Walker Grant reached a hand out toward Chloe Reed. "Chloe."
Looking at him, his eyes covered with white gauze, Chloe Reed couldn’t bring herself to refuse him and took his hand.
A faint smile touched Walker Grant’s lips. Much of the color had returned to his face, and he looked quite alluring at that moment.
He closed his palm, enveloping her small, cool hand and sharing his warmth.
"Everything will be all right."
"Mhm."
Watching from the side, Fiona Linton stroked her chin and tsked.
"What are you tsking about?"
Just then, Nathaniel Monroe arrived, carrying some fruit. He happened to see her odd gesture the moment he walked in and asked the question.
Fiona Linton shot him a glance, then leaned in a little closer. "They seem to be getting along quite well," she asked. "So why did they end up getting a divorce?"
Nathaniel Monroe said, "Well..."
Fiona Linton gave him a confused look. "Well what?"
Nathaniel Monroe stammered, "Um..."
Fiona Linton’s expression immediately soured. "Are you capable of speaking or not? If not, then just shut up!"
Nathaniel Monroe rubbed his nose. "It’s their business, after all. As an outsider, it’s probably best not to go around voicing opinions."
"Walker! Chloe! I brought your favorite fruit. Come on, have some!"
To avoid being questioned further by Fiona Linton, Nathaniel Monroe quickly stepped into the hospital room.
"Tch!"
Fiona Linton curled her lip. As she turned her head, she spotted Assistant Dylan Finch.
He was dressed in a white shirt and had a refined, handsome look. He smiled at her politely. "Doctor Linton."
Fiona Linton gave a small smile. "Well, hello, Assistant Finch."
Dylan Finch’s eyelid twitched, and he was suddenly struck with a bad feeling.
Fiona Linton walked over to him. "There are some things I don’t understand that I’d like to ask you. When do you think you’ll have some time?"
At her words, Dylan Finch actually glanced at his watch before replying, "I have to report to Mr. Grant on work matters next, then I have a video conference, and after that..."
"All right!"
