Chapter 706: My Poor Child
There was no draft in the hospital room, yet Chloe Reed felt her eyes sting. This feeling, combined with the turbulent emotions rampaging through her heart, left her feeling utterly suffocated and sad.
She kept her lips pressed tightly together, her gaze lowered, refusing to look at him.
Only after he had taken off his clothes did she begin to help him get dressed.
Her expression was serious. Her breath brushed against him from time to time, and her unique scent lingered at the tip of his nose, like a feather tickling his heart over and over.
It made him itch all over.
His prominent Adam’s apple bobbed up and down. The shirt was on in no time.
When it came to the pants, he said in a hoarse voice, "I can do it myself."
But Chloe Reed simply reached out, pulled down his hospital pants, and then picked up the pair of trousers beside them to put on him.
Walker Grant: "..."
’She’s treating me like a paralyzed patient, isn’t she?’
She pulled the trousers up, and as her hands reached his lower abdomen to work the zipper, she noticed a very obvious change.
Her movements paused slightly.
Walker Grant’s voice was full of resignation. "You know I’ve never had any resistance when it comes to you."
Chloe Reed: "..."
She yanked the zipper up forcefully, then buckled his belt.
Turning around, she walked out of the hospital room without a backward glance.
"Chloe?"
The only reply was the unforgiving sound of the door shutting.
The corners of Walker Grant’s lips curled up. He reached out to adjust his cuffs, and a low chuckle escaped him.
"..."
The flight landed in Breyburn. The temperature was already low; you needed a coat to keep from feeling the cold.
With the Lunar New Year approaching, the streets were already bright with red and festive decorations.
Fiona Linton sat in the car, looking around excitedly. "Wow, so this is Breyburn? It’s a lot colder than Nancastle, but the scenery is quite nice. Is there anything good to eat or fun to do here?"
Nathaniel Monroe said, "There’s plenty. You can look up some guides later and explore at your own pace."
Fiona Linton nodded. "Sounds good to me. I’ll start by seeing what the local bloggers recommend."
The car pulled up inside Jardinelle, and Fiona Linton got even more excited. "This villa is gorgeous."
Nathaniel Monroe said, "You bet it is. This was Walker and his wife’s marital home. They designed and decorated it together, pouring their hearts into it, so of course it’s beautiful."
"Tsk, tsk," Fiona Linton said, shaking her head. "So what? Their marriage fell apart in the end anyway."
Nathaniel Monroe’s eyelid twitched. "Doctor Linton, if you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all!"
Fiona Linton huffed, "Hmph, I’m just telling the truth!"
The staff, having been notified in advance, had already cleaned the villa inside and out and were now standing at the entrance to greet them.
"Sir, Madam, lunch is ready. The old madam has also left Breyburn," the butler said.
"Mm."
Walker Grant grunted in acknowledgment. He was being supported by Chloe Reed. Turning to her, he said, "Don’t worry, Grandma won’t find out so soon."
Chloe Reed murmured in response.
Judith Pierce, walking behind, scanned the area and asked, "Where’s Noah?"
The butler said, "It’s a bit cold today. Young Master Noah’s immune system isn’t very strong, so we didn’t have him come outside."
At these words, Judith Pierce’s eyes instantly reddened. She hurried into the villa and saw the little boy sitting on the sofa in the warm living room.
"Noah!"
"Grandma."
Noah replied obediently.
The next second, he was swept into Judith Pierce’s arms.
"Noah, my poor child," she said, her heart breaking.
