That evening, Fiona Linton came to Walker Grant’s hospital room. She was carrying a bowl of herbal medicine, but her eyes flickered nervously.

Chloe Reed, who was sitting nearby, smiled when she saw Fiona arrive. But she could tell at a glance that something was wrong. A look of confusion appeared on her face as she took out her phone and typed a question. A cold, electronic female voice rang out in the hospital room.

"Fiona, what’s wrong?"

"Um..."

A look of discomfort flashed across Fiona Linton’s face as she stammered, "I think I messed up."

"What happened?"

Walker Grant asked in a low, serious voice.

Fiona Linton set the bowl of medicine aside and wrung her hands. With her head bowed low, she said nervously, "I got in touch with Aunt Jensen this afternoon. She asked about your condition, and I didn’t think twice before telling her everything. But from her reaction, it seemed like she didn’t know your injuries were so serious. I... did I cause trouble for you two?"

After she finished speaking, she glanced cautiously at Chloe Reed.

At her words, Chloe Reed’s expression faltered for a moment. Her long lashes trembled. Then, she began to type, and the electronic female voice spoke again. "It’s fine. She would have found out sooner or later. Don’t blame yourself. This isn’t your fault."

"Really?" Hearing this, Fiona Linton let out a sigh of relief and patted her chest. "I really thought I’d messed up. I’ve been on pins and needles all afternoon. That’s why I didn’t dare come see you two, you know? I’ve been so worried."

She was a straightforward person who spoke her mind and didn’t worry too much about what others thought. Relaxing now, she said, "Well, it’s best if everything’s okay. Come on, drink your medicine."

Chloe Reed picked up the bowl of medicine and offered it to Walker Grant, but this time, he didn’t take it.

Fiona Linton asked, confused, "What’s wrong? Is it too hot?"

"Step outside for a moment."

Walker Grant said to her instead.

Fiona Linton froze for a second, her gaze darting between the two of them. Then, a look of sudden realization dawned on her face. She stood up and nodded. "Right. I’ll step out. I’ll be right outside. Just give me a shout if you need anything."

She hurried out of the room, thoughtfully closing the door behind her.

"Chloe."

Only after he was certain there wasn’t a third person in the room did Walker Grant finally speak. He faced her, his voice a little hoarse. "You won’t leave me, will you?"

Chloe Reed gazed at him, at the pale, vulnerable face she could see beneath the white gauze bandages.

This was a side of him he had never shown her before.

She made a small sound of assent.

But Walker Grant, still not reassured, pressed on, "No matter what anyone says to you, you won’t leave me. Right?"

’How could he not be anxious?’

’Last time, Chloe Reed had listened to Judith Pierce. The two of them had conspired to send Sunny Reed to his room, and to make sure nothing went wrong, Chloe had even drugged him with her own hands.’

’She had been dead set on leaving him.’

’So, after hearing what Fiona Linton said, he couldn’t stop himself from wanting to make sure she wasn’t lying to him now.’

’Judith Pierce would definitely be back. She knew now how he’d injured his eyes, and she would never let Chloe stay by his side.’

’He couldn’t see anymore. He didn’t know what he could possibly do to make her stay.’

That was why, in this moment, he sought her answer again and again.

As if this were the only thing that could give him some small peace of mind.
