"I’ll schedule the appointment for tomorrow. You’re coming with me to get your eyes checked."

A cold, robotic female voice answered him, making the unilateral decision to take him for an eye exam.

Walker Grant’s forehead rested against hers. His breathing was a little heavy as he grunted in agreement.

’They had already kissed. If he backed out now, she would truly be angry.’

Chloe Reed left the master bedroom and went downstairs to the living room, where she sent Preston Vance a message.

Preston Vance: [Of course. I’ll make the appointment with Mr. Aldridge.]

Preston Vance: [Your voice is almost recovered, isn’t it?]

Chloe Reed: [Yes, it is.]

Preston Vance: [That’s wonderful. I’m already looking forward to the day you can speak again.]

Chloe Reed: [I am too.]

A moment later, Preston Vance told her that Mr. Aldridge had made time for them tomorrow morning at The Gilded Pavilion.

Chloe Reed agreed.

With something to look forward to, her spirits lifted and time seemed to fly. The next day, the three of them left the house together.

Walker Grant’s expression remained impassive, and he said little after getting into the car.

Fiona Linton sat in the passenger seat. After a glance at the two in the rearview mirror, she cleared her throat and said, "After the appointment, should we go out for a bit?"

Chloe Reed typed, "Where do you want to go?"

Fiona Linton said, "Ever since I got to Breyburn, I’ve just been cooped up at your place. I haven’t really been out to wander around. Even a trip to the mall would be nice. I just want to get some fresh air."

Chloe Reed nodded, seeing no problem with the idea.

But Walker Grant said, "You two go ahead. Just drop me back home first."

"Oh, come on."

Fiona Linton seized the opening. "You should get some exercise too. Otherwise, being cooped up at home all day is no fun."

"I exercise every day," Walker Grant said, his tone flat.

Fiona Linton fell silent for a moment before replying, "Oh, no wonder you’re in such good shape. Are you working out like your life depends on it just to hold on to our Chloe?"

At her words, Chloe Reed’s gaze instinctively fell upon Walker Grant.

His muscle definition had softened a little while he was in the hospital, but ever since he was discharged, he’d started working out for an hour every day, without fail.

His muscles were gradually regaining their firmness, their definition becoming clearer. It was the lean, sculpted look she liked.

Something flickered in Chloe Reed’s eyes.

"Yes," Walker Grant affirmed.

Fiona Linton scoffed. "You’re quick to admit it. I guess your body and your face are the only things you have going for you now. Better keep them in good shape."

After that, she fell silent. ’This is some hard-earned money!’

When they arrived at The Gilded Pavilion, Walker Grant stayed right by Chloe Reed’s side. She supported his arm as they walked into the private room, where Preston Vance and Mr. Aldridge were already waiting.

"Chloe."

Preston Vance stood up, a warm smile on his gentle, handsome face. "You’re here."

"Mr. Vance."

But it was Walker Grant who spoke first. He extended a hand to Preston Vance. "Thanks for your help. My wife is recovering quickly. And thanks for your trouble this time, too. What can I say? She worries about me."

As soon as he said this, everyone in the room fell silent.

Fiona Linton marveled to herself, ’He’s got some nerve.’

Chloe Reed was left speechless. ’What’s the deal with him staking his claim the second he walks in?’

’You’re here for a doctor’s appointment, not a pissing contest!’

Preston Vance smiled faintly and shook Walker Grant’s hand. His expression was gentle, but his words were anything but. "I also hope you recover soon, Mr. Grant. After all, once you’re well, she’ll no longer feel obligated to stay by your side out of guilt. Then she won’t owe you anything anymore."
