Chapter 659: Kicked Away
Nathaniel Monroe’s eyes widened from the side. "It’s incredible. Walker was in a terrible mood this morning. Dylan Finch and I didn’t even dare to breathe too loudly. But just now, I could have sworn he sounded... better?"
’Chloe just gave him the time of day, and he’s suddenly all better?!’
Daniel Hayes snorted. "What’s the use? She’s still going to kick him to the curb sooner or later."
Nathaniel rubbed his nose. "Actually, I don’t think it necessarily has to come to divorce."
His voice trailed off as he spoke, and he cautiously glanced at Chloe Reed’s expression.
Chloe just looked out the window, not sparing him a glance.
Nathaniel immediately shut down. After all, this was between the two of them. No one else could make the decision for them.
...
The fishing village was large, and every home seemed well-equipped. Under a big tree at the village entrance, a few elderly men and women were chatting around stone tables and stools.
The car stopped. They had arrived at their destination, according to the GPS. To find Fiona Linton’s house, they’d have to get out and ask a local for directions.
Nathaniel got out of the car with a smile. "Excuse me, folks. I’m looking for someone. Do you happen to know a Fiona Linton?"
"Oh, Doctor Linton."
One of the women immediately asked, "Are you here to see her, too?"
Nathaniel’s eyes lit up. "That’s right! Where does she live?"
The woman pointed further into the village. "Just keep heading that way. Her house is the one with the willow tree out front."
"Great, thank you, ma’am." Nathaniel flashed the kind of wholesome smile that older folks adore. Seeing such a handsome, cheerful young man, one of the women suddenly asked, "Are you seeing anyone, son? And what brings you to Doctor Linton?"
Nathaniel’s smile dimmed slightly. "I’m already married."
"Married so young? What a shame."
...
Back in the car, Nathaniel said, "Just drive straight ahead. Fiona Linton’s house is the one with the big willow tree out front."
The car started up again, continuing down the village’s paved road.
After about a two-minute drive, they spotted the large willow tree. The car stopped at the front gate, revealing a two-story house with a small, immaculately kept yard.
They all got out of the car, and Nathaniel went and rang the doorbell.
After a wait of about three minutes, a plainly dressed, middle-aged woman came out.
"Yes?"
As she spoke, her gaze lingered on Chloe Reed’s face for a few seconds.
Nathaniel smiled. "We’re here to see Doctor Fiona Linton. Is she home? Would she be able to give us a consultation?"
The middle-aged woman nodded and stepped aside. "Please, come in. Doctor Linton went out shopping but she’ll be back soon."
The middle-aged woman led them into the living room and poured them tea.
"This tea helps with fatigue, and it cools and detoxifies the body. Please, have some. She’ll be back before you know it." The woman said this from the side before turning to leave.
Nathaniel was indeed thirsty. He picked up his teacup, sniffed it, and commented, "Smells like herbal medicine."
Just as he was about to drink, Chloe stopped him.
Nathaniel looked at her in confusion. "Chloe, what’s wrong?"
Daniel Hayes muttered from the side, "Don’t drink things from strangers. Did no one teach you that growing up?"
Nathaniel’s expression stiffened. "But this is Doctor Linton’s house, isn’t it? We’re strangers to her. She wouldn’t have any reason to harm us, right?"
Daniel Hayes gave him a look of utter exasperation. "What was Walker Grant thinking, sending you? If you had brought Chloe here by yourself, you’d both already be in some kind of trouble!"
