Hearing this, Nathaniel Monroe put down his teacup and looked at Daniel Hayes defiantly. "What’s your problem? Why are you always picking on me? If anyone’s going to drink this tea, I’ll be the first. If something’s going to happen, it’ll happen to me. Chloe will be perfectly safe."

Daniel Hayes shot him down. "If something happens to you, do you think she’ll be far behind?"

"Why do you keep wishing for something bad to happen?"

"It’s not that I’m wishing for something bad to happen. Someone is watching us, and if we’re not careful, we’ll end up dead."

"..."

The two of them started bickering.

Chloe Reed: "..."

She typed on her phone and turned the volume all the way up. "Shut up."

Both men were struck silent. Daniel Hayes sneered, and Nathaniel Monroe huffed before turning his head to look at Chloe Reed. "Chloe, did you figure something out?"

Chloe Reed turned her phone’s volume down. A cold, electronic female voice emanated from it, "We’ll talk after we see Fiona Linton. Until we meet her, don’t touch anything."

"Got it."

For once, Nathaniel Monroe obediently listened.

Daniel Hayes scanned their surroundings, remaining ever vigilant.

Nathaniel Monroe glanced at him and muttered, "Making such a big deal out of nothing."

’Everyone in this village loves Fiona Linton. She must be a good person. Why would she try to harm a bunch of strangers?’

However, the thoughts only swirled in his mind for a moment, and Nathaniel Monroe didn’t voice them.

Chloe Reed sat on the sofa and checked the time. They had been inside for five minutes. The middle-aged woman hadn’t reappeared, and there was no sound or movement from the entrance.

A faint sense of unease began to surface within her.

A faint, sweet scent, like flowers, lingered in the living room.

Chloe Reed glanced around and saw fresh flowers on a corner table and the windowsill.

The decor was warm and inviting, without a hint of coldness.

She averted her gaze and continued to wait patiently.

But ten minutes passed in the blink of an eye, and Fiona Linton still hadn’t appeared.

Nathaniel Monroe, however, let out several yawns. "I’m so sleepy," he said. "When is she coming back? I’ll go ask that woman."

With that, he stood up to find her.

But after just two steps, his body swayed, and he lost his balance, stumbling to the ground.

Seeing this, Daniel Hayes immediately rushed forward to catch him.

"What’s wrong?"

Nathaniel Monroe shook his head. "I’m so dizzy..."

The color drained from Daniel Hayes’s face. "Not good!"

But before he could say anything else, his own legs went weak, and he collapsed, bringing Nathaniel Monroe down with him!

Chloe Reed felt her own body grow weak. She tried to push herself up from the sofa but found she had no strength at all.

Her heart sank.

’It’s over.’

’We walked right into their trap.’

’I was so careful, but I still fell for it.’

The scene before her eyes began to blur.

Chloe Reed bit her lip, and the sharp pain brought her a sliver of clarity.

She looked over at Daniel Hayes and Nathaniel Monroe and saw they had already passed out.

"You have a strong constitution, don’t you?"

Just then, a voice laced with sarcasm drifted over, and a young woman descended the stairs.

Chloe Reed looked up, but her vision had already gone blurry. All she could see was a hazy silhouette.

She opened her mouth, trying to ask a question, but she couldn’t speak. A second later, her eyes fluttered shut, and she fainted.

A moment later, the middle-aged woman emerged and asked apprehensively, "Fiona, dear, are you sure you didn’t make a mistake?"
