Walker Grant let out a low chuckle.

Arthur Grant’s expression was grim. "What are you laughing at?"

"Noah is only three and a half. Are you already planning his future?" Walker Grant’s tone was slow and deliberate. Being blind, he couldn’t see the furious, cold expression on Arthur Grant’s face and had to rely on his tone of voice.

Arthur Grant shot back, "I told you, this is what you owe your older brother. You have to compensate him—compensate his son."

"Then you’d better keep a close eye on me." Walker Grant leaned back. "If you’re not around one day, I might just go back on my word. You won’t be able to control me then."

"You!"

Arthur Grant slammed his hand on the table in fury and pointed at Walker Grant. But when his eyes landed on the white gauze wrapped around his son’s eyes, he ultimately refrained from saying anything harsher.

He just snorted coldly. "Of course I’ll live a long life. I have to personally watch my grandson inherit the Grant Group."

"That would be for the best."

Arthur Grant turned and left without another word.

The door slammed shut with a deafening bang.

Silence quickly returned to the study, so profound that not even a breath could be heard.

Walker Grant fumbled for his fountain pen and continued practicing his writing on a sheet of blank paper.

However, while his practice strokes had been steady before, now his hand trembled, the characters he wrote chaotic and messy. No one was there to see it.

...

Fiona Linton leaned close to Chloe Reed’s ear and whispered, "Uncle Grant is so scary. Is he going to flay that scumbag alive?"

Chloe Reed glanced at her, then typed on her phone. A cold, electronic female voice sounded, "You’re reading too much into it. He is his son, after all."

"But I feel like he looks at him like an enemy. What kind of father looks at his own child like that?" Fiona Linton pouted.

Chloe Reed lowered her gaze, her typing fingers pausing for a moment before tapping out a line of text. "Of course, there are. My parents are even worse than him."

’Arthur Grant might treat Walker Grant coldly and avoid seeing him, but he wouldn’t actually harm him. Her own parents, however, had truly, deeply hurt her. Even though she wasn’t related to them by blood. But before she knew the truth, they had always called themselves a family, yet their extreme favoritism toward Sunny Reed had reached a level she could never comprehend.’

Seeing the calm look in her eyes, Fiona Linton immediately slapped her own mouth lightly. "I’m sorry, Chloe. I didn’t know about your past. Did I upset you by saying all that?"

Chloe Reed quickly grabbed her hand and shook her head.

’She wasn’t upset. She didn’t care anymore. Now, nothing about Charles Reed or Autumn Linton could cause even the slightest ripple in her heart.’

CRASH...

But just then, a sharp sound came from the side.

They turned their heads to look and saw the old madam holding her phone in one hand. The water glass that was in her other hand had fallen to the floor, instantly shattering to pieces.

Chloe Reed and Fiona Linton quickly stood up and went over, while a maid came to clean up the shards.

The old madam gripped Chloe Reed’s hand tightly. The wrinkles on her aged face seemed to tremble, her complexion had grown several shades paler, and her lips quivered. After a long moment, she said, "Chloe... your mother... Autumn... she’s passed away."

Chloe Reed’s expression froze. Her mind and heart both buzzed for an instant, and her breath hitched before she slowly nodded.

’Autumn Linton had been gravely ill for a long time. After everything she’d been through, it was already a feat that she had held on for this long.’

The call ended. The old madam’s voice trembled as she said, "Chloe, I have to go see her."
