Chapter 724: Acting for Money
Walker Grant’s tone grew cold. "Ten million."
"Deal."
This time, Lucas Shaw agreed readily. He even laughed and said, "You should’ve just offered that price from the start."
Walker Grant said, "You’ll stop at nothing for money. Do you really think you’ll be able to keep it?"
But Lucas Shaw just chuckled. "I’ll have earned it and I’ll have enjoyed it. That’s enough for me."
Walker Grant simply hung up.
Dylan Finch couldn’t resist saying, "Mr. Shaw is completely blinded by money. Young Master Monroe knows him, too."
But Walker Grant said, "Even if I’m the one in trouble someday and I go to him for help, he’ll still expect to be paid."
Dylan Finch frowned slightly upon hearing this, not quite approving of Lucas Shaw’s approach.
’Doesn’t he have any family or friends?’
’To measure everything in terms of money... It’s just so impersonal.’
Walker Grant said, "Give me an update on yesterday’s progress."
"Yes."
"..."
Fiona Linton trailed after Chloe Reed, peppering her with questions about Iris Yates and Nathaniel Monroe.
When she learned that Iris Yates had entered a fake marriage with Nathaniel Monroe to avoid William Quinn, she froze for a second.
After a moment, she finally spoke. "I don’t think that’s a fake marriage at all. He’s just using it as a cover, isn’t he?"
Chloe Reed smiled faintly and nodded.
’Later, she’d figured it out too. Nathaniel Monroe was obviously interested in Iris Yates. Otherwise, out of all the options available, why would he choose this one?’
’He wanted to bind himself deeply to Iris Yates, to entangle their lives completely.’
’But realizing it now was, admittedly, a little too late.’
’Perhaps if Nathaniel Monroe had just confessed his feelings to Iris Yates sooner, things might not have gotten this complicated.’
Fiona Linton clasped her hands behind her back, shaking her head. "I never would have guessed. To think he’s such a devoted lover."
Then she looked at her and couldn’t resist saying, "How come everyone else’s guy is hopelessly devoted, but yours had to be a scumbag?"
Chloe Reed: "..."
With a deadpan expression, she took out her phone and typed, "Let’s just stick to talking about other people. Could you not hit me where it hurts?"
The electronic voice was exceptionally cold, and combined with her deadpan expression, it was inexplicably amusing.
"Okay, okay, my bad. I’ll shut up," Fiona Linton said, quickly raising her hands in surrender.
Chloe Reed made some sago soup, ladled out a few bowls, and gave them to Fiona Linton, Judith Pierce, and Noah.
The little boy loved it. He held the bowl, his eyes sparkling as he looked at her. "Thank you, Auntie."
He took a sip and couldn’t resist adding, "My mom never made this for me."
Chloe Reed’s brow furrowed at the sudden mention of his mother.
Fiona Linton chimed in, "If you like it, have some more."
Then she pulled Chloe Reed away.
Judith Pierce sat to the side, looking at Noah with a complicated gaze. "Do you still miss your mom?" she asked.
Noah considered the question seriously. "I did at first," he said.
"And now?" Judith Pierce asked anxiously. She was worried. Noah was so young; he had already lost his father, and now he was without his mother’s company. She feared it would cause him psychological harm.
’But a vicious woman like Sunny Reed didn’t deserve to be by Noah’s side at all.’
This was why she felt so conflicted.
Noah shook his head. "Not anymore. Mom always hit me."
He finished speaking and lowered his gaze.
"What!" Judith Pierce’s voice rose sharply. "Noah, are you telling the truth?"
