Chapter 730: I’ll Return the Money to You
Chloe Reed slowly leaned toward her, looking as if she were about to whisper a secret.
At this, Fiona Linton’s eyes gradually widened. She stared at Chloe’s mouth, the anticipation practically spilling from her face.
Then, Chloe Reed simply nodded at her before calmly turning away.
Fiona Linton: "..."
She took two deep breaths to compose herself. "You know," she said, "for a second there, I really thought you were about to speak to me. I was already thinking, ’Wow, am I that good?’ I’ve only been treating you for a little while, and I’ve already cured your voice. I was even starting to picture myself as this world-famous doctor, so in-demand that people would be fighting for a single appointment."
Fiona’s antics made Chloe Reed laugh, her clear eyes curving into crescents and sparkling brightly. She pulled out her phone and typed, "You’ll definitely get there. When you do, if I need to see you, remember to let me cut the line."
Fiona Linton huffed softly. "Stop messing with me. You’re just teasing."
Then, she glanced toward the door again.
Walker Grant was still talking to Noah. A heavy aura of grief surrounded him, but with his eyes wrapped in white gauze, his emotions were not so easily exposed.
Fiona Linton clicked her tongue. "That rotten scumbag is only good for his looks."
Chloe Reed: "..."
That night, Walker Grant developed a fever.
When Chloe Reed’s hand brushed against his body, she was instantly jolted awake. He was burning up!
She immediately flipped on the light and tried to shake him, only to find he had slipped into unconsciousness.
She scrambled out of bed to get Fiona Linton.
Fiona Linton, still half-asleep, was dragged over. After feeling for Walker Grant’s pulse, she said, "A couple of needles should do the trick."
A worried expression crossed Chloe Reed’s face as she picked up her phone, about to ask what was happening.
Fiona Linton said, "It’s emotional distress from overthinking. Plus, he was out all day and caught a chill."
She patted Chloe Reed’s shoulder. "Don’t worry, he’s not going to die."
Chloe Reed: "..."
Fiona Linton administered a few needles, and Walker Grant’s temperature dropped quickly. The effect was remarkable.
Fiona Linton yawned. "Just give him some cold medicine tomorrow, and he’ll be fine."
Then, looking exhausted, she left.
Chloe sat by the bed, gazing at the deeply sleeping man, her clear eyes filled with complex emotions.
He felt such crushing guilt toward Julian Grant and blamed himself terribly over Noah. She could see it all.
But she was a victim, too. There was nothing she could say, nor could she simply ignore her own feelings to comfort him.
’What happened in the past is real,’ she thought. ’Even if I now know it was all Sunny Reed’s plot, how can the truth change something that actually happened?’
’For me to be able to accept Noah now... that’s already a huge step.’
...
Walker Grant was weak for two days, but with his strong constitution, he recovered quickly.
On this day, his phone rang. Chloe, who was right beside him, glanced at the screen. She then traced a letter in his palm: ’S’.
It was the simplest and easiest letter for him to recognize by touch.
"Answer it," Walker Grant said.
The call connected, but Lucas Shaw didn’t speak right away. Only the sound of his heavy breathing came through the line.
"What’s wrong?" Walker Grant asked.
Lucas Shaw sighed. "I’ll refund you the money. I couldn’t find him."
Walker Grant’s voice grew cold. "Then keep looking. If anything happens to Nathaniel Monroe, will you be able to live with yourself?"
