Chapter 731: Thirty Million
The man on the other end of the line was silent for a moment. Then, he gave a nonchalant laugh and said, "I’m all alone in this world. To me, money is the most important thing. If this deal isn’t profitable, I won’t consider it."
"Twenty million."
Walker Grant coolly raised the price.
Lucas Shaw tsked. "What do you mean by that? Trying to buy me off?"
Walker Grant said in a deep voice, "Since you want to talk money, let’s talk money. Twenty million. Find Nathaniel Monroe for me and bring him back unharmed."
"Let me think about it..."
Lucas Shaw drew out his words.
"Thirty million."
"Deal."
"Hang up," Walker Grant said coldly.
Chloe Reed hung up. She had heard the whole thing, her delicate brows furrowing. She immediately pulled out her phone and typed. A cold, electronic female voice rang out: "Who is he? It sounds like you know him well, yet you don’t."
Walker Grant said, "He’s someone I met abroad who’s only interested in money. He’ll do anything for the right price."
Chloe Reed hummed in acknowledgment, unimpressed by that type of person.
Then, she continued typing her question: "Where did Nathaniel Monroe go missing? Could he have been captured by William Quinn?"
Walker Grant’s tone grew heavier. "I’m not sure yet. We have to wait for more specific information."
Chloe Reed hesitated for a moment before typing, "If only I hadn’t shown him the photo."
’Originally, Nathaniel Monroe was going to wait, to go over only after he had definite news about Iris Yates. But who would have thought? He took one look at the photo and just rashly went to find her.’
’It’s a huge world out there, with a vast ocean and countless islands. How was he supposed to find her?’
’Did he ever stop to think what would happen to his family if something happened to him?’
’If Iris Yates found out about this, what would she think?’
’Nathaniel Monroe was just too impulsive.’
"Walker Grant mulled this over for a moment before turning to face her. "Chloe, we’re all the same. When the person we care about most gets into trouble, it’s impossible to stay calm. Your only thought is to find them, fast. You’d rather get hurt in their place than see them in pain."
Chloe Reed froze for a second, looking at his face. His eyes were wrapped in white gauze bandages.
’But for some reason, she felt like he was gazing at her affectionately, right through that layer of gauze.’
’She almost looked away out of instinct, but she quickly realized how foolish that was.’
’He can’t see. And even if he could, he couldn’t possibly see her through the bandages.’
’What was she even trying to avoid?’
’That sudden, frantic beat of her heart?’
Chloe Reed didn’t dare to think about it too deeply. She just gave a soft hum of acknowledgment and then typed, "I’m stepping out for a moment."
Walker Grant nodded. "Alright. But first, send a message to Dylan Finch for me. Tell him to come see me."
"Mm."
When Dylan Finch arrived, his expression was also grave.
As soon as the study door closed, he said, "I’ve already contacted Mr. Quinn, but he isn’t replying to my messages."
The moment he was told Nathaniel Monroe was missing, Walker Grant had suspected that William Quinn was definitely behind it.
Nathaniel Monroe had actually found Iris Yates and had been discovered by William Quinn’s men.
How could William Quinn possibly let his old rival—the man who had almost married Iris Yates—off the hook so easily?
William Quinn was a madman, after all.
The space between Walker Grant’s brows tightened, and his tone grew heavier. "Call him. I’ll speak with him."
"Yes."
RING... RING... RING...
The call connected after three rings.
William Quinn’s smiling voice came through the line. "Mr. Grant, to what do I owe the pleasure? Have your eyes healed?"
