Chloe Reed took his hand again and wrote in his palm: [You rest. I won’t leave.]

Walker leaned in closer, his voice muffled. "Okay. You have to stay with me always."

Chloe didn’t respond.

Her presence seemed to work. Walker’s breathing gradually evened out, and holding her hand, he quickly fell asleep.

When he woke up again, it was an hour later, well past dinnertime.

Chloe had shifted from sitting to lying on her side, facing him.

Walker’s hand reached out, finding her cheek and stroking it gently.

Chloe’s eyelashes fluttered. She opened her eyes, immediately took his hand, and drew a question mark in his palm.

She was asking if it still hurt.

Walker’s lips curved up slightly. "It doesn’t hurt anymore."

Chloe sat up, picked up her phone from the bedside table, and typed, "Then let’s get up and get something to eat. I’m hungry."

"Okay."

Walker agreed and got up with her.

The two of them went downstairs. The old madam and Fiona Linton were in the living room watching TV. Fiona was cracking melon seeds with loud KAKA noises. When she saw them step out of the elevator, she immediately tsked and muttered under her breath, "What a schemer."

The old madam was right beside her and heard her. She just smiled kindly and said, "Well, it only works if someone is willing to fall for it."

Fiona fell silent. After a moment, she said, "Chloe must be captivated by his good looks!"

The old madam laughed heartily, then said to Chloe, "You must be hungry, right?"

Chloe nodded.

Walker spoke up, "It’s my fault. I was the one who insisted she stay and keep me company."

The old madam said, "You’re not feeling well, and she was willing to stay with you. Isn’t that a good thing? You two go on to the dining room. The food’s been kept warm."

"Alright."

Walker nodded.

Chloe led him to a chair, then turned and went over to Fiona, showing her the traditional Chinese medicine she had bought.

She typed on her phone: "Can I take this medicine?"

Fiona examined it and said, "Oh, you can. Why didn’t I think of this prescription? Where did you get it?"

Her eyes sparkled as she looked at Chloe.

Chloe typed on her phone, "I had dinner with a friend today and happened to meet one of his friends, who gave me a consultation."

Fiona nodded. "You can. You can take it together with the medicine I prescribed for you. The effect will be even better."

Relieved, Chloe handed the herbs to a member of the house staff and asked them to brew the medicine.

Fiona grabbed her hand, suddenly full of excitement. "Chloe, I saw the guy who picked you up. Is he a new boyfriend you’ve scouted? He’s a totally different type from this scumbag. Your taste is excellent!"

Chloe froze, then, feeling exasperated, she typed on her phone: "He’s just a friend."

"I don’t buy it. There’s no such thing as a purely platonic friendship between a man and a woman. Either one is hiding their feelings deep down, or the other is pretending not to know." Fiona crossed her arms, a knowing look on her face.

Just as Chloe was about to type a reply, Fiona leaned in closer and continued, "Honestly, you should consider him. I think that guy is pretty great. I haven’t met him, but I’m a good judge of character by faces, and he looks kind. He definitely wouldn’t bully you or break your heart."

The words had barely left her mouth when a loud crash echoed from the dining room.

Chloe immediately turned and hurried over. She saw Walker standing up, having knocked over a nearby chair. He just stood there, looking lost, like a child who’d done something wrong.
