Preston Vance smiled gently and nodded. "Naturally."

Dylan Finch said nothing more and turned to leave.

Preston Vance turned his head, his gaze returning to the brightly lit villa. The curve of his lips deepened slightly.

’And what he offers... is that considered happiness?’

"..."

Chloe Reed rushed straight to the bedroom, pushing the door open to find Walker Grant curled up on the bed, pressing his temples, the very picture of agony.

She immediately walked over and gently tapped him.

"Chloe."

The man’s hoarse voice called out. He immediately turned and wrapped his arms around her.

Chloe Reed froze, looking down at him.

He looked utterly dependent, his arms wrapped around her waist and his face pressed against her abdomen. She could feel every one of his breaths warming the fabric of her clothes.

’I haven’t even changed yet, and he’s already clinging to me.’

Chloe Reed took out her phone and typed. The synthesized voice asked, "Are your eyes hurting again? Did you have Doctor Linton take a look?"

Walker Grant said hoarsely, "Doctor Linton said it’s referred nerve pain. There’s no immediate solution; it’ll get better once this episode passes."

Hearing this, Chloe Reed’s brows furrowed slightly. She pursed her lips, then typed, "Then did you take any painkillers?"

"I did," he answered, then added, "Have you forgotten? I took painkillers when I was in the hospital too, but they were useless."

"Then what can we do?"

Even the cold, electronic female voice seemed tinged with confusion. As the voice faded, the bedroom fell into a profound silence.

After a moment, Walker Grant slowly released her. "Am I keeping you from your work?" he asked. "You go ahead and get busy. I’ll be fine. I just need to endure it for a bit, and it’ll pass."

Then, he let out a couple of ragged gasps, as if he were in extreme agony.

A complex look flickered in Chloe Reed’s eyes. She typed, "I’m going to go change my clothes."

With that, she turned and walked away.

Walker Grant listened intently to her movements, trying to discern what she was doing.

The walk-in closet was in the same room, so he could hear her moving about—the rustle of fabric, the creak of a cabinet door opening...

Then, footsteps drew near, then moved away again, followed by the sound of the faucet running in the bathroom.

Ever since losing his sight, his hearing had grown sharper. This was especially true when it came to Chloe Reed; he could capture her every little sound and discern what she was doing.

Soon, she was approaching again. He could clearly distinguish her footsteps, even on the soft, sound-absorbing carpet.

She sat on the edge of the bed and typed on her phone. The cold, electronic female voice rang out, "What can I do to distract you, so you won’t be in so much pain?"

Walker Grant asked hoarsely, "Are you sure it won’t be a bother?"

Chloe Reed typed again, "I’m already done with my work."

"That’s good."

Walker Grant nodded lightly. "In that case," he said, "just staying here with me is enough."

Then, he reached out, his hand searching until it found hers, and clasped it.

Watching this series of movements made Chloe Reed’s heart ache with discomfort; the pangs were even more pronounced than before.

She looked down at his hand, with its well-defined knuckles. He seemed afraid to apply any pressure, as if scared of making her unhappy.

Her fingertips twitched slightly. In response, he tightened his grip for a moment before slowly relaxing his hold and letting her hand go.

"Are you leaving?"

he asked, his tone almost painfully sensitive.
