Parallel World Pharmacy

Chapter 5: 17: Gene Therapy and Calling from Elizabeth

Pharma, who wanted to see if the genome-edited gene therapy system of CRISPR/Cas9 would work properly in animal individuals prior to treatment for his second son, was stepping through stages for consideration.

It succeeded in editing the genome of cultured cells brought back from laboratories in different worlds.

Experiments with whole plants were also carried out, and the genome of yellow roses was rewritten to create blue roses.

Farma, with a bouquet of blue roses, presented it to three people: Ellen and Lotte, and Zoe.

"Oh, what's this! I've never seen a rose like this."

"Plus, it incorporates bioluminescent enzymes, so it glows when you see it in the dark."

"!? What do you mean?!? Roses glow?

Each of the three received an unimaginable gift and rejoiced.

"Dear Farma! Would you like to fill your mansion's garden with these roses?

Lotte gets excited to tell such a story, but Farma shook her neck to the side.

"I'm giving you cut flowers because I don't want you to grow them."

Farma doesn't intend to put genetically modified plants out in the wild yet, no matter how safe they are.

"You're so pretty. Perhaps it is your aesthetic to make doomed flowers..."

"It's not an aesthetic, it's a safety precaution to protect wild species."

As Ellen crushed unfortunately, Pharma returned an emotionless response.

"It was made of cells. It was also made of plants. Let's finally experiment with animals."

As his next step, he was about to move on to animal experiments.

"How do you do animal experiments? I feel a little sorry for the animal for the convenience of humans, even though it is necessary before we do it to humans..."

Animal lover Ellen, by the looks of it, doesn't seem to feel comfortable.

Originally, animal experiments must be carried out in a dedicated breeding establishment and those reared in a uniform breeding environment must be used for experimentation. But there are no such facilities in this world, and there are no genetically homogeneous animals suitable for experimentation. Then, as a Pharma, I wanted to come with the policy of treating animals with hereditary diseases, rather than genetically engineering and diseasing the genes of normal animal individuals.

"Sort of. This time we're going to cure animals that originally have hereditary diseases. I can't procure animals, so I need Mr. Josephine to help me."

"Oh, that vet kid! Sure, if you're gonna ask me, that's the right girl."

Pharma and Ellen made him a primary vet and remembered Josephine Barrier, his godson.

"Speaking of which, don't just meet me at the lecture today"

Josephine must have come out to Pharma's lecture, so he grabbed Josephine at the end of the lecture. Josephine seemed plainly happy when Pharma spoke. Talking to the popular professor Pharma, who is always surrounded by students on campus, is challenging, and students are happy to speak from Pharma.

When Pharma asks her if any of the animals in charge of Josephine have certain characteristics,

"Yeah. If it's that animal, I'll be there, professor. Would you like to see it?

Jofephine replied that she had an idea.

"It's a court animal... if it belongs to His Majesty, it's hard to do."

Pharma unfolds unexpectedly and butts in. The meeting place with Josephine was the grand stables of the court.

Ellen, Emerich can't accompany him because he can't get into the courtroom, and Lotte, who can get into the courtroom, just said he needed something for the workshop, so he followed me. The stables are beautifully and cleanly managed and the horse room looks like a private room in a luxury hotel. Farma thinks you're a celebrity to horses.

"Horses, you live in a good place. I don't know if they say it's a human inn."

Lotte stared at Pharma. As Pharma and Lotte walked through the grand stables, they found Josephine eager to examine the horse. Speak up and decide to tour her work as it is.

"Josephine was in and out of court, wasn't she?"

"Yes, I'm not exclusive because I'm not a court vet, but it's also my job to check on your horse in the grand stables"

Weaving a gown of veterinary special-purpose medical clothing with an imperial crest, Josephine, wearing a feather hat, responds to Pharma as she caresses the horse softly. There are less than three hundred horses raised in the court, so court vets alone are always short of manpower to manage them, he said.

"Professor, this way."

Josephine leads you to a splendid stable. A golden hairy horse was glancing at his face.

"You're a fine horse. The horse in the Medicis mansion is also splendid, but this kid is golden and amazing with hair. This way, it feels good to grow up!

Lotte leaks her sigh inadvertently. Hair growth looks good because it is carefully brushed.

"Right. It's His Majesty's horse."

Lotte and Farma grabbed their hands in a hurry. It's hard not to hurt you by mistake. Josephine explains the Queen's horse lineage to both of us.

"His Majesty Emperor Elizabeth's Horse is native to Ancient Fleura and was born by mating it with a lost old Polynaud pedigree horse breed. He had a neat little head, long ears and a slender body, long hair is beautiful, elegant and very agile, but then the horse body is robust. But there was only one difficulty, and you have a high temper. Only one husband tells me I miss him. The vet won't let me see him very well either."

Farma wasn't familiar with horses, but that was just the Emperor's horse, and he was brilliant even in the eyes of amateurs. The queen's horse looked grumpy because she saw a face she didn't know.

"It's hard, so I'm always whimpering so I don't get kicked in the back leg and have a fracture"

Josephine supposedly remembered being kicked so tightly that she blurred her tone. That's a tough job, Farma said, snubbing her hard work.

"Fine, even the vet gets hit by an animal and gets hurt or something?

Josephine said, "That's it, already!" He nodded loudly.

"I use defensive divinity when it comes to dangerous animals, but still, when they do it, they do it. You have the most bite wounds."

When Pharma showed me Josephine's hand with her gloves off, she was scratched.

"Wow... I respect you, Dr. Josephine"

Lotte looks painful.

"Wound ointment that works well, shall I serve it? It'll heal soon."

Josephine laughed embarrassingly when she asked if Pharma would treat her just in case, she could cure herself of this much.

"I've missed the point, but here's what I want to show the professor."

Josephine was in the same stable as the Emperor's horse, making the pure white pony look Pharma.

"Wow, it's white!

Lotte takes a sigh of sigh at its too much beauty by looking at the pure white fur. The horse was the animal Pharma was looking for.

(I see, it's definitely Albino)

”Congenital albinism."

When Pharma saw it in the eye, she definitely had congenital leukaemia (commonly known as albino). And the big red eyes seem to be weak sighted.

"How's this horse's eyesight? Can you run fast without hitting anywhere?

"This kid seems to have little vision. These kids' eyesight can't be cured by a vet."

Josephine, too, seemed to have noticed the weakness.

"Finally, you are also prone to skin cancer. I'd like to treat this horse in college, but it's not a good idea to get him out of here."

"The court horse must not go outside."

"Okay, I'll be there"

Starting the next day, Pharma had prepared the CRISPR/Cas9 system, put on weight and determined the amount to be applied to systemic gene therapy for the ponies at the stables of the court. While alerting to the side effects, the genome-editing treatment was partially performed for each part of the body, today for the front leg, today for the rear leg, etc. This procedure is genetically transduced into the cell using Pharma's hands to transmit the organism, so it does not inflict pain or anything at all.

And a week has passed since all the procedures.

Pharma used the diagnostic eye to monitor the condition, but the affected animals are fine. I was connected because I went there every day.

Pharma also told Ellen and Emerich, who couldn't get into the palace, how they were doing every day. Emerich, in particular, was taking detailed notes and asking Pharma how he was doing.

Josephine is also enthusiastic about her work, she comes to the stable every day beside taking university lectures and does not fail to examine the treated pony. After a while, Josephine noticed that the red horse's eyes were turning blue and that chestnut-haired body hair was beginning to grow.

"Professor, how did you change the color of your eyes and body hair? And weak vision is improving."

When Josephine runs the horse, he runs better than before and doesn't bump into it if he has a disability.

Pharma explains the tease.

"This pony wasn't born to function a gene called tyrosinase to synthesize a dye called melanin, but I did an operation to restore that function. So, the whole body dye, including the eye, is starting to be made. By the time I get winter hair, I think it will change to its original color, not white."

Even so far, there have been no serious side effects.

The side effects of most concern with this treatment have developed carcinoma, but can be covered by Pharma and Josephine following up.

"Professor Medicis, what exactly did you use on this child? What kind of medicine can do this..."

"When you're in third grade, do it in a specialty subject class. Besides, this treatment is also in the trial phase."

"I understand. So you haven't established a cure yet."

Josephine was convinced and eager to take notes. It seemed like Josephine's extracurricular internship class.

"Pharmacist. Are you here, Your Majesty?"

That day, the empress's proximity came to call Pharma, letting her breath out. When I heard Pharma was here, the Empress seemed to be looking for him.

The place where Pharma was summoned was a court martial arts field for theological training on the outskirts of a large garden.

It is a splendid stadium with divine arts formations for bulkhead generation. Pharma also knew about the existence of the facility, but in a secret place, it was the first time he had been allowed to approach it. This is usually the arena the empress uses for her daily workouts, he said. The Divine Arts are also so stubborn that they are not comparable to those of Imperial Pharmaceutical University.

(Is His Majesty in theological training?

Waiting for that to happen, a light-wearing empress emerged from inside the arena holding a cane. Often dressed in gorgeous costumes, the perfectly exposed miniscule costumes looked fresh to Pharma.

Farma calms down and pays her respects in front of the entrance to the arena.

"Be in a good mood, Your Majesty."

"Um, it's been a long time, Farma. I've been a master, but lately I've heard stories about walking into and out of the palace, and I've been waiting to show my face."

The empress, speaking to rap, seemed in a good mood.

With his breath falling off and sweat on his forehead, he has apparently done light divine training in the arena. Pharma thought to herself that you have an understandable personality around feeling elevated if you move your body.

"Your Majesty. Thank you for the delay, but thank you for your assistance with research funding to our department"

"Um, I've received a thank you note and that's good. There's something I'd like to tell you."

"What is it?"

"Let's move the place"

Pharma follows the Empress, predicting that it would be an inconvenient story when asked.

"Yes, I understand."

Refrain from stepping behind the Empress, Farma follows her as she enters the arena. The Empress shook the subject as she remembered.

"Farma at the time, it's a different matter, but have you made progress with your daughter-in-law?"

"I'm very busy right now, so I'd like to ask you for a respite."

Pharma's steps began to creep. That's the least I'd like to be shaken up about right now.

"When is that going to stop being so busy? Hmm? I guess that's how you work until you die."

To best point, Pharma had a loving laugh.

"As I've said before, I'm not a normal person. If you partner a woman, it may not have an adverse effect. I was hoping you could put me on hold for a while."

While such excuses were rolling out, the Empress had risen to the stage of a wide stone arena, proceeding to the centre and pulling out her wand. The theological formation reacted by pulling out the wand, causing a geometric pattern to emerge on the stage.

It would be a kind of divine art that fortifies the stone stage, applied by earthly attribute magicians.

"Sometimes it's okay, be the other guy"

If you notice, there's no sign of the side that was with her until earlier.

Soon, people are paying for it.

Your Majesty's opponent.

(No way... your opponent is a divine battle. With Your Majesty?)

"Out of the wand"

Farma was in trouble.

The empire's most powerful divine user was the opponent, beyond imagination of what would happen.
