Chapter 133: I Borrowed It Fair and Square, Why Should I Pay It Back? (Power Stone Milestone Extra - 1/2)
[VIP Chat Group]
[Roxie]: Wait, wait, wait. Did Elesa just mention Dragonspiral Tower? I didn’t mishear that, did I?
[Brycen]: Dragonspiral Tower isn’t somewhere people can simply visit whenever they please. The tower itself is an ancient ruin, and the energy field surrounding it affects both ordinary Pokémon and humans.
[Alder]: Even in Unova, that tower is considered something of a forbidden place. The League designated the surrounding area as a restricted zone long ago, and no one is allowed to enter without permission. Could the Asher from this parallel world also be affiliated with the League?
[Gary]: It’s equally possible that he simply trespassed. It wouldn’t be the first time he’s done something like that.
[Drayden]: Dragonspiral Tower is the resting place of Reshiram and Zekrom. If the energy field surrounding it becomes unstable, the balance of the entire Unova region could be affected.
The video continued playing.
Time passed.
Miori appeared to have grown a little taller, and her long black hair was tied into a small ponytail behind her head.
On the training field, Shinx lay sprawled across a rock, basking in the sun.
"Shinx, today we’re going to train the accuracy of your Thunder Shock."
Miori crouched down and poked Shinx’s ear.
Shinx yawned, jumped down from the rock, and shook out its fur.
"Do you see that leaf over there?"
Miori pointed toward a tree at the edge of the training field. A single leaf hanging from one of its branches swayed in the wind.
"Use Thunder Shock to knock it down, but you can’t touch any of the branches beside it."
Shinx tilted its head and glanced at her before turning to face the tree. Golden sparks began crackling around its cheeks.
A golden current shot from its body and struck the exact center of the leaf.
The leaf was scorched black and drifted to the ground, while the branches around it remained completely motionless.
"That was amazing!"
Miori picked Shinx up and raised it high above her head.
"My Shinx is the best!"
Held in midair, Shinx released several satisfied cries, its tail raised proudly behind it.
At the edge of the field, Asher sat on a chair drinking tea.
"Mio, come over and take a break."
Miori carried Shinx over and sat beside him.
"Daddy, is training Pokémon difficult?"
"I wouldn’t say it’s difficult."
Asher placed his teacup on the armrest.
"The main thing is that your mother likes seeing me train seriously. Whenever she’s watching from the side of the field, I roll up my sleeves and pretend to be extremely busy."
"What do you do when Mommy isn’t there?"
"I give the Pokémon the day off and take the day off myself."
Miori blinked.
"So are you only pretending to be busy while looking after me today?"
"Cough..."
Asher choked on his tea.
"You little rascal. When did you learn how to trick people into revealing things?"
Miori gave him an obedient smile.
"Mommy taught me. She said that when I talk to Daddy, I should keep asking why. Eventually, you’ll accidentally tell me the truth."
Asher rubbed his forehead.
"How many things like that has she taught you?"
"Lots and lots! Enough for me to use for a very, very long time!"
Miori counted on her fingers.
"Mommy said that a Gym Leader shouldn’t only know how to battle. They must also learn to observe their opponents, see through their strategies, and counter whatever moves they make."
"And what have you observed?"
"I’ve observed that Daddy is in a good mood today."
Miori tilted her head.
"Whenever Mommy asks you about Dragonspiral Tower, you always brush her off. Mommy isn’t here today, so tell me about it."
Asher fell silent for a moment before smiling.
"You’re even sharper than your mother."
He placed his teacup down and looked at the scorched leaf on the training field.
"Two dragons are sleeping deep inside Dragonspiral Tower, but their conditions aren’t particularly stable."
"Not stable?"
Miori placed Shinx on her lap.
"That’s right. They’ve been sleeping for a very long time, and there’s no telling when they might awaken."
Asher picked up his tea again.
"Your father’s job is to visit the tower every so often, make sure they’re still sleeping normally, and confirm that nothing unusual has happened."
Miori tilted her head.
"So Daddy’s job is to put dragons to sleep?"
"More or less."
"Then take me with you next time, okay? I can help you put them to sleep!"
"No. You’re still too young, and your mother would never agree."
"Can’t you secretly take me?"
Asher reached out and pinched her cheek.
"I just said you were sharper than your mother, and now you’ve already revealed what you’re really thinking."
Miori covered her cheek and giggled.

[Aaron]: Miori will undoubtedly become an excellent Gym Leader. Her ability to learn and analyze people psychologically is genuinely impressive.
[Lucian]: This is rare, Aaron. You actually found time to join the conversation.
[Aaron]: I’m taking a break whenever I can. Watching the livestream is the only thing that allows me to relax at the League nowadays.
[Bertha]: Young people would do well to learn from Aaron’s attitude.
[Aaron]: Appropriately slacking off is beneficial to one’s mental health.
[Lucian]: From a psychological perspective, that does have a certain degree of effectiveness.
[Flint]: Lucian, you bastard! You’ve been hiding outside for so long! Hurry back to the League and help me with the workload!
[Lucian]: No.
[Flint]: ???
[Volkner]: All four of you Elite Four members are so irresponsible that you might as well resign!
[Lucian]: Do you genuinely want the position? You can have mine.
[Volkner]: ???
[Wallace]: Why does this feel strangely familiar?
[Steven]: Were you thinking about me?
[Alder]: Whoever comes to Unova can have my position. I’ll step down immediately.
[Trip]: ???
[Lance]: ...I can no longer see a future for any of the regional Leagues.
The video continued playing.
A considerable amount of time passed again.
Shinx had already evolved into Luxio.
It stood in the center of the field, the golden star at the end of its tail gleaming beneath the sunlight.
Elesa’s Emolga stood on the opposite side.
"Luxio, use Quick Attack!"
Miori raised her hand.
Luxio’s entire body transformed into a blue blur as it charged toward Emolga.
"Emolga, dodge it!" Elesa commanded.
Emolga flapped its wings and nimbly twisted aside.
"Use Thunder Shock to cut off its route!"
Electricity crackled through Emolga’s cheek pouches, and a golden current shot toward the ground in front of Luxio, blocking its path forward.
"Don’t stop! Use Quick Attack to circle around it!"
Miori reacted just as quickly.
The instant before Luxio collided with the electrical current, it abruptly changed direction and circled around Emolga’s side.
"Now, use Wild Charge!" Miori shouted.
Luxio erupted with dazzling golden electricity and transformed into a bolt of lightning that slammed directly into Emolga.
Emolga was sent flying. It flipped twice in midair before regaining its balance, fluttering its wings, and landing in front of Elesa.
Elesa recalled Emolga and handed Miori a towel.
"You did well. Luxio’s speed has improved by more than an entire level since last week. Remember, a Gym Leader’s responsibility isn’t merely to win. You must also ensure that challengers learn something from the battle."
"I understand."
Miori accepted the towel and wiped away her sweat.
"Mommy, can I participate in next week’s Gym Battles?"
"No. You still haven’t passed two of your classes."
"Which two?"
"Gym financial management and Gym public relations."
Elesa closed her folder.
"Don’t even think about slacking off. Those two classes are more important than practical battling. You need to understand the Gym’s annual operating budget, field-maintenance expenses, and employee salaries."
Miori’s smile froze.
She quickly changed strategies.
"Can I take those two classes together with Daddy?"
"Why him?"
"Because Daddy said he manages all the money in our family! That means he must be the greatest expert when it comes to financial management!"
Elesa turned toward Asher, who was sitting at the side of the field.
Asher was leaning comfortably against the back of his chair and drinking tea. When he noticed Elesa looking at him, he put down his cup.
"Don’t look at me. I’m the kind of person who lets his strength do the talking. I’ve never concerned myself with money."
"How many bills have you sent to the Devon Corporation?"
Elesa stared at him expressionlessly.
"Hasn’t anyone there ever asked you to pay them back?"
"I borrowed that money fair and square. Why should I repay it?"
Asher spoke with complete righteousness.

[Siebold]: Well, now I understand. It’s Steven again—and in this parallel world, Steven is apparently Asher’s personal wallet.
[Steven]: What do you mean, his personal wallet? Can the friendship between Brother Asher and me be measured with money? Look at this! No matter which world we’re in, Asher and I are inseparable brothers. None of you could possibly understand or compete with our friendship.
[Wallace]: Wouldn’t the Devon Corporation’s finance department object to this arrangement?
[Steven]: Isn’t the finance department there to pay the bills? What else do we keep them around for?
[Siebold]: Based.
[Jasmine]: I don’t really understand this kind of friendship between boys.
[Steven]: Of course you don’t. You aren’t a boy.
[Jasmine]: ...
