An afternoon at Nimbasa Gym.

Miori was sitting cross-legged on a bench beside the battlefield. Luxio lay dozing at her feet, occasionally flicking its tail.

Half an hour earlier, Elesa had received a phone call and hurriedly left, tossing out a single sentence before departing:

"Mommy has some work to take care of. Keep an eye on the Gym for me."

Miori watched her mother disappear at the end of the corridor. Then she leaned backward, rested the back of her head against the bench, and stared blankly at the ceiling lights.

"Luxio, do you think Mommy is deliberately slacking off?"

Miori tilted her head toward her partner.

"Every time the Gym gets busy, something suddenly comes up."

Luxio raised an eyelid, glanced at her, and yawned, declining to comment.

"You’re not taking my side either."

Miori gently nudged Luxio’s belly with the tip of her foot.

"All those dried fish treats I gave you were wasted."

Luxio rolled onto its back, exposing its belly. It curled all four paws against its chest and slapped its tail against the floor twice.

Miori sighed, jumped down from the bench, and smoothed the wrinkles in her skirt.

"Luxio, let’s go—"

Before she could finish, a burst of golden electricity suddenly exploded outside the glass window overlooking the Gym’s backyard.

The ball of electricity crackled several times in midair before plummeting crookedly like a kite whose string had snapped. Finally, it crashed headfirst into the crown of the large ginkgo tree behind the Gym.

Miori ran to the window, gripped the windowsill with both hands, and stood on her tiptoes to look outside.

A small, blackened shape was caught among the ginkgo tree’s branches. It released an extremely faint cry before falling motionless.

"Luxio, come with me!"

Miori grabbed the jacket hanging over the back of the bench and ran toward the backyard.

Upon reaching the ginkgo tree, Miori raised her head and stared upward for quite some time.

The small black shape was trapped among branches nearly two stories above the ground. Its wings were awkwardly wedged between the branches, while its tail dangled beneath it.

It was an Emolga.

"Luxio, can you climb up there?"

Miori looked at her partner.

Luxio flicked its tail, placed its forepaws against the trunk, and bounded into the branches within moments.

It carefully gripped the back of Emolga’s neck with its mouth, pulled it free from between the branches, and landed steadily on the ground.

Miori crouched and gently lifted Emolga into her arms.

There was a deep gash across its left wing, its right leg was trembling, and several scrapes covered its belly.

"How did you get this badly hurt...?"

Miori frowned and gently parted the fur on Emolga’s wing to inspect the wound.

"Let’s bring it inside first."

Miori removed her jacket and wrapped it around Emolga.

"Mommy isn’t here, so I’ll give it first aid before anything else."

Holding the bundled Emolga securely, Miori hurried back into the Gym.

Only after cleaning and disinfecting the wounds and stopping the bleeding did she call over the Gym’s medical staff.

After performing a basic examination, one of the medical workers nodded approvingly at Miori.

"The wounds were cleaned very thoroughly. Miss Miori, have you studied first aid before?"

"My daddy taught me."

Miori gently brushed the fur above Emolga’s ear with her fingertip.

"He said bumps and injuries are unavoidable while traveling, so learning some emergency treatment is very important."

[VIP Chat Group]

[Gary]: Miori’s technique for stopping the bleeding was extremely professional. Did Asher teach her that too? Is there anything he doesn’t know how to do?

[Brock]: Didn’t Raina also mention that Asher taught her how to treat injured Pokémon?

[Wallace]: Ultimately, Raina, Tiana, and Miori are all developing in completely different directions. Judging from everything we’ve seen, Asher is probably an all-rounder with every single skill raised to the maximum.

[Steven]: Brother Asher possesses far more skills than you realize. What you’ve seen is merely the tip of the iceberg.

[Lance]: You don’t have any memories of him, so why are you acting as though you know all kinds of secrets?

[Steven]: I can’t say. I can’t say.

The video continued playing.

That evening, when Elesa opened the doors of the Gym, Miori was sitting on a bench outside the lounge and reading a first-aid manual.

"Mio, what are you reading?"

"Mommy, you’re back."

Miori closed the book.

"An Emolga was injured, so I gave it first aid. There were a few things I wasn’t sure I handled correctly, though."

"The bandages are wrapped properly, and you cleaned the wounds thoroughly."

Elesa performed a brief examination.

"But where did you find it?"

"Um, it fell into the ginkgo tree this afternoon."

Miori pointed toward the large tree outside the window.

"...This little troublemaker must have gone out to pick fights with wild Pokémon again."

Elesa helplessly rubbed her forehead.

"Mommy, do you know this Emolga?"

Miori tilted her head.

Elesa shook the Poké Ball in her hand.

"It’s the child of my Emolga."

"My Emolga is one of the most obedient Pokémon in the entire Gym. I never expected its child to be this wild."

Elesa stood and patted her knees.

"Perhaps it inherited its father’s personality. My Emolga’s mate is a wild Pokémon with an extremely strong desire to battle."

The corners of Miori’s lips rose slightly.

"Isn’t that a good thing? It sounds really strong."

"It is strong, but it also causes plenty of problems."

Elesa massaged her brow.

"It’s far too aggressive. None of the Pokémon at the Gym are willing to live with it, which is why it spends every day running into the wild to pick fights."

"Mommy."

Miori raised her head.

"Can I take care of it?"

Elesa looked at her daughter and fell silent for a moment.

"Are you certain? It isn’t a gentle Pokémon. Even though you saved it, it might not feel grateful to you."

"I know."

Miori nodded earnestly.

"But I want to try."

Elesa studied her for a long moment before standing and gently placing Emolga’s Poké Ball in Miori’s palm.

"Then I’ll entrust it to you. But remember one thing: whether it chooses to become your Pokémon will be entirely up to Emolga."

"Mm."

Miori tightened her grip around the Poké Ball.

[VIP Chat Group]

[Skyla]: Is this the child of Elesa’s Emolga? Its mother is so obedient. I never expected her offspring to have this kind of personality.

[Roxie]: It feels like the Pokémon equivalent of a street thug.

[Volkner]: Electric-type Pokémon should be aggressive! How else are they supposed to become core members of a Trainer’s team?

[Lt. Surge]: But the other Pokémon on Miori’s team aren’t exactly pushovers. This Emolga will be under a lot of pressure if it wants to become one of her main battlers.

[Volkner]: What pressure? It already spends all day fighting until it’s covered in injuries. With that personality, joining Miori’s team will only make it even fiercer!
